No The Sting or Deliverance?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Interesting question. The Sting I didn't finish (I've watched it loads of times before but not this time). It is sooooo....the opening scene in which Redford nicks the guy's wallet, is just soooo cheesy. Then a couple of scenes later he walks into a casino with some girl and places, I think $3000 on red. It's just absurd. From there there was no way it could come back as a serious contender against the leaders, so I just moved on to the next film
Deliverance I agree is a good film and I did watch it to the end, but no it didn't score high enough for me. Can't remember what it was specifically.

No point me arguing against as it's all subjective. I'd have them in over some of those films on your list. Definitely wouldn't have The Deer Hunter so high, which takes half the film to get to the good bits. Would have Taxi Driver on there too.

Please keep the suggestions coming in.
Of course, do what you want with the thread, but from my point of view, what I start doing now (I've done this on another forum for other decades), is to view the trailer for each movie (and in some cases also read reviews), and decide on that basis which ones are going through to the viewing round.
Then I'll watch each movie basically. If I know it's not going to score an 8.5 or above then I stop watching and move on to the next one.
People can keep suggesting movies at any time.
I'll do the previews round asap to sort out the provisional list for the viewing round, but I won't get round to viewing for a while yet as I still have about 70 movies to watch from the 80s, and I'm away at the moment and not really doing it.

Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid if you're into 1980s Steve Martin comedies.
a few not yet mentioned:
big night
hard boiled
delicatessen
king of new york
trees lounge
breaking the waves
office space
election
rushmore
event horizon
and we must have had fargo?
Yep, Fargo, Lebowski and a shout out to Miller's Crossing.
Was going to mention Delicatessen too. I love a good dark comedy.
also bad lieutenant (harvey keitel, though i prefer the nic cage one) and the virgin suicides (aged better than lost in translation)
I’m gonna bring some other classics which haven’t been mentioned… (or they have but I’m too lazy to read the thread)
Muriel’s Wedding
Romper Stomper
The Castle (highly recommended)
Dazed and Confused
Bullet in the Head (imo John Woos masterpiece)
Not a popular pick amongst war film buffs, but I love The Thin Red Line
I'd also have some Ken Loach, hard to choose just one in his 90s production.

It is a very good movie. Has one of my favourite actors - Ben Chaplin who never really pushed on after that and the Truth about Cats and Dogs.

Good work guys

Yep, Fargo, Lebowski and a shout out to Miller's Crossing.
Was going to mention Delicatessen too. I love a good dark comedy.
