Great win that from the U23s. Puts us in the Youth Cup quarter finals where they’ll meet Brighton at home. Very young wolves team with most of them under 17. They opened the lower tier of the Billy Wright stand today and it was virtually sold out. Maybe get even more for the QF

Very comfortable 3-0 win. Watch out for the name of Lembikisa. Very quick and with good coaching could be better and quicker than Traore. The other wing back Keto-Diyawa looks promising too. Back three were in total control. How Nathan Fraser missed his chances only he knows, could have had at least five and that's no exaggeration.

Wolves at home to Brighton in the quarter finals.

When did they change the pronunciation of Pepe? So it is now Pep not Pe-pay

Reading that Wolves have not offered a new contract to Moutinho because they feel it’s time to move on with a new look.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Makes our lack of investment in the midfield over the last few seasons look even more silly.

We still haven't heard anything about Saiss' contract.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He won't be offered an extension either. It's patently obvious that Fosun have been saving their pennies ready for a big shakeup in the summer.
Dendoncker out, James Madison in
Joao Moutinho out, Kevi De Bruyne in
Romain Saiss out, Virgil van Dijk in

The news about Moutinho has to be nonsense. No way are we in a position to do that.

I don’t think Ronaldo will be at United next season either?

Wouldn't have him on a free.
Too old
Too disruptive in the dressing room
Too high in wage demands
Too hellbent on eclipsing his teammates

I would be surprised if we didn't offer Moutinho at least another year. Same goes for Saiss. If we let them go for nowt, then where's the money suddenly going to come from to replace them. Remember, we're supposed to be cash strapped and from what I posted earlier, we're taking out loans against the future payments for Doherty (Sep '22 and '23).

I think you’ll find it’s commonplace for clubs to take out loans against future transfer payments and future tv income

posted on 12/2/22

We always take out loans, i wouldn't read anything into that. Have seen us do that Macquarie thing about five times the last couple of years.

As for money, we were trying to spend in the summer so must have 30-40 million available right now. We also have no further excuse of ffp this summer which frees up more and of course we are cashing in on a player or two. We should comfortably be about to spend 50million + this coming summer, even before any sales.

The goals though Gem, what about all those goals? I'd take him on a free, not that it's going to happen.

I bet plenty will get on board with that false hope that the club have been holding back in the transfer market in order to have a massive splurge this summer and completely re build. Revolution rather than evolution? I'm not buying that.

Yeah agree it won't happen and then we will get the next round of excuses as to why we are incapable of buying first team ready players.

Some real Shiite teams playing today.

Is interesting to get an insight in to the structure of some of these transfers, it seems no club ever actually pays the entire fee up front, certainly not for the larger deals. I wonder too how much we've actually received to date from the Doherty move, if spurs still owe us 13m then not much I imagine considering he moved 18 months ago now. I seem to recall reading that the Jota deal was back end loaded too. Whether that's normal and we're getting similar terms in our purchases I don't know, I hope so.

posted on 12/2/22

I think it’s quite rare for transfers to be paid in one go. If a club did offer to pay all at once they would expect to get a discounted deal i reckon

If Brighton hold on they will be a point behind us.

How are your lot in possession?

The reason I ask is that I haven't seen alot of Wolves this season but I've seen plenty of Spurs (not surprisingly) and we can't keep hold of the ball for love nor money.

We can be effective on the break but other than that we are playing atrociously. It's primitive long wall rubbish but with Winks and Hojbjerg in midfield that's as Good as it gets.

We play like the away side in virtually every home game.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

We're not bad in possession until the final third. Don't really control games too well with the ball, but we don't play long ball stuff.

We rely on pressing and moving the ball quickly and then fluffing a chance or giving it away when something looks promising.

posted on 12/2/22

Wolves are very good at pressing the ball in midfield and ahead of our defence but don’t press much in the opposition half. With lightweights like Trincao and Podence we wouldn’t be very good at it even if we tried. With Neves and Moutinho we are good at controlling the ball in midfield but when it gets to the opponents penalty area it often feels like a no go area for our players

posted on 12/2/22

Isn't Trincao one of the best at creating turnovers in the opposition half?

posted on 12/2/22

Dropped on an interesting statistic that someone posted online recently. One of the things that annoys fans is passing the ball backwards on a regular basis. Wolves are actually mid table on that stat. The team that passes the ball backwards most, by some margin, is Man City

posted on 12/2/22

Difference being though that they are passing it back while in the final third. We are passing it back while in midfield.
