Their goal keeper should have saved Sibley's shot.

But he didn't (and it bounced nicely just in front of him).

Why is it called curling when the stones appear to go in a straight line?
Are you in the Flat Earth Society, Spart? You are like one of those chaps who gaze at the horizon and say "Well, it looks like a straight line to me."
I was really angry with TL in the moment, but less so now. Coming away with the 3 pts made a hell of a difference.
WR's attitude was interesting. He said it was stupid, but the sort of thing that he might have done as a player. He then said he suggested that Tom took a few days away from the club. Interesting man-management, but if it works, I totally approve.
Wayne seems to have the touch with respect to knowing how to handle his players as individuals.
Obviously it's nonsense to draw too many comparisons with BC but I do think he might have similar man-management qualities. Clough used to tell Archie Gemmill he was crap at football so his job was simply to get the ball and give it so someone who could actually play, like Alan Hinton. It was just the right way to fire him up. Rooney's handling of the young players in particular has been masterful. I would trust him to know the best way to deal with Lawrence's rush of blood yesterday.

Now you mention it no.Great believer in Galileo and Newton and the latter says things continue to travel in a straight line unless another force acts on it. As the only force acting on the stones once the stone is released is friction (which they try to reduce with brushes) which always acts in the opposite direction to the motion then the stone should travel in a straight line.
Indeed Ang. I find it rather humbling. Why should Rooney, a world-class player also develop what (it is early days) would appear to be first-class leadership skills.
Rather like Mike Atherton becoming a first-rate commentator and brilliant writer.

Well I have the distinction of having represented both the Lowland and Highland Brigade's at curling. And none of that ever occurred to us 🥌

Had you taken more notice of the physics you might have represented Scotland or Britain. You missed out on a great opportunity. So why is it called curling?
No reason why anyone shouldnt be talented in more than one sphere, Heb.
Just look at Spart.
There is a clue in the name, Spart. If you look very closely, you will see that the stones do not actually travel in a straight line. It's absolutely baffling, isn't it? It's all to do with science and that. Maybe the rink isn't flat, or maybe there's something else at play that you haven't yet thought of.
The stone will follow the line of least resistance. If the ice isn't perfectly flat then that will cause deviation from the straight and narrow. I suppose then you can use the brushes to lower the friction to slightly change the trajectory. Were the ice perfectly flat the brushes would make no difference. Have to say that as a spectator sport it doesn't keep my interest but I expect it's fun to play.

That's bólločks Spart and you know it. The brushes melt the ice and the resultant water reduces the friction. Just like an ice skate in fact, but to a much less extent.
Nope, there is more to it. The brushes make it go a bit quicker by reducing fruction, but that's not why they curl. This is poor, Spart. You're better than this. You can figure it out.
Or you can cheat and look it up, but I know you are above such things.
Thanks Desi for info on Kellyman.
Thank goodness Reading appointed Ince and not Colin! On the other hand it's an "interim" appointment. It sounds as though the assistant, Gilkes, will be more of an influence but we just hope it will implode.
I think it's a fair that if the Reading were faithful were having a discussion last week about who would be the right person to come in and save their season, Paul Ince would not have featured in the conversation. If he doesn't have a good start you can imagine the fans voicing their displeasure quite quickly which would be all to the good for us.
Spart will probably say this was also travelling in a straight line?

That;s what I said. I wrote it in English so you may not have understood.
The ice IS perfectly flat, Spart. The brushes are not the reason why the stone turns. As with the application of tactics and formations in football, it's painful to watch you trying to fathom it, yet at the same time it's wonderfully entertaining.
Spart must save a fortune on mind altering substances?
Leeds v Man U is amazing. Waterlogged pitch, every challenge a slide tackle, a throwback to the 70's. Proper footy and some of the so called thoroughbreds really up for it
They should make a sequel to "Being John Malkovich:. "Being Spart". What it's like to spend a few minutes inside his brain. It would make The Exorcist" look like Disney.
