Putin could easily have quietly sent a message to Roman...."get your affairs settled in UK fast, things are about to hot up". Wink wink....
==================
Putin didn't expect Ukraine to resist and make it hard and he thought wrongly that the assault will be a swift and over within days.
But he found Ukrainian people stubborn and very patriotic, and got involved in effectively a guerilla war and more deeply into this escalation.
Because of how the West reacted to the continuous nature of this assault, Roman got done by the speed of things and how quickly the Western opinions turned against Russians, and those who bankroll Putin.
That's why.

War is war regardless of time spent on it. Perceived enemies and their associates can expect punitive measures regardless of how quick the action.
Even if Russia took one day to win, the reaction would be almost identical targeting enemy allies.
The question remains....
Yep, I would guess that the fallout of the conflict was not accurately predicted by Russia
'If Roman was so close to Putin, why did he not get a heads up on the events about to unfold.'
You know, there is a possibly Putin might want what's happening to Chelsea to play out exactly how it is.
Also, he and Abramovich might have a very close relationship, without being 'mates'.
Having already been the beneficiary of $12bn of Russian state assets Putin probably thinks fck him he's done well enough out of me? Also, trust nobody is a handy motto amongst the gangster classes.
Also, Putin or RA may have underestimated the degree of sanctions which started in 2014 / Crimea and ramped up regularly but still, clearly, did fack all difference to the mad bastirt.

The more 1 stars I receive for this article to more I know my message has reached those it was mainly intended for. I do not expect you to change your entrenched views...but at least make you think about it....thats my aim.
Yes Putin is going to share his invasion plans with a civilian so that he can sell his football club in time
Let's imagine Putin did inform Abram, and Abram would out of the blue put Chelsea up for sale and leave the UK. What do you think people would speculate?
Ffs
If / when it gets to the stage where it looks like Chelsea will go under, the government will then have to decide whether to sit back and let it play out - Boris doesn't really do 'unpopular' decisions though - or step in and bend their own rules.
Why then wouldn't Putin want this current uncertainty around a UK based Russian asset? Not like he supports Chelsea, is it?

Possible...but pure speculation. There was going to be only one outcome and reaction after a full attack on Kiev. It's clear he just did not know.

Chelsea support no , most unlikely , but support of a friend? .... Help him to prepare for the worst scenario. No time for prep as all can see.
I really do think your over playing this mate thing …..not sure they are mates….not sure putin needs or has any mates
For want of a better word they are more colleagues
Putin is not about to put an invasion in jeapordy by sharing this with a colleague …..that’s like asking the tea lady if she could help with tactics for todays match
And to say roman should have given him what for for not giving him a heads up …..yeah I can imagine that one ! Roman shouts at putin , putin pushes a button and roman dies within 24 hours
You are hugely over stating any relationship they have but a relationship does exist but they aren’t golfing buddies
Tbh I'm not sure Abramovich and Putin are mates in the same way you are with your friends. More a friendship of convenience, maybe?
Speculating, of course.
Either way, I doubt 'what will happen to Chelsea?' was too high up on Putin's agenda when he decided on the path he's taken.
Abramovich did pretty well out of their relationship whatever happens.
Blackpole
I could be wrong, but that's how I see it too.
Chelsea fans on here were keen for us to take any evidence of Abramovich's links to Putin to court, so in a receiprocal gesture I would direct your argument to court to see how it holds up.
Putin clearly underestimated a lot of things, maybe this was one of them. He probably told his oligarchs they'd be fine the west won't do sheit.
Press has called anyone seen with Putin a mate. Reality is he brutality humiliates those in his close council live on national tv and enjoys it, knowing full well they have to tread carefully and choose their words wisely. And he sits about 100m from them. Im not sure he has any mates. He knows full well how they got to where they are too, not the kind of mates you want to be too pally with when they will just as easily stba you in the back as you them.

According to media reports this invasion was six moths plus in the planning. Even the Chinese were aware of it.... I wont go into details of Nato/EU agendas in the meantime .... too contentious...
Fact is had RA known for sure in advance he could have said in view of UK govt attitudes to me , I'm moving elsewhere...perfectly plausible. Even expected....

The possibility of a link to someone attacking another country gets you sanctioned. Unless you're Newcastle, of course, in which case the factual and proven link to someone attacking another country is ignored.
That's the reality of this scenario, and the reason why it is political grandstanding that's driving this, rather than any sort of principled decision.
Seven years Saudi Arabia have been attacking Yemen. Seven years. And the man that owns the fund that now own Newcastle has been overseeing that attack as well. Do we see even the suggestion of sanctions?
Of course not. We simply see the UK selling billions of pounds of weapons to the Saudis, so they can carry on doing it.
That's why I take all this sanctimoneous shiite that various rival fans keep dribbling out with a giant pinch of salt. Hypocrites to a man.
