It really does. Because you’ve still not realised that Twitter is a platform, not a source.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ofcourse I know the difference. It’s one of the reasons I don’t go on it, anything can be posted or manipulated on it. There’s little to no accountability.,
----------------------------------------------------------------------
All good, credible material links back to source
Most of the stuff on twitter is crap but linked material is highly credible, even on Twitter.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And I wouldn’t argue with that. It’s the rest of the shiiit on there that many try to use as fact…
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Twitter as a platform makes it easy to sift through the crap and pick out good, credible material at speed!
I follow some of the BBC journos on Twitter, a few of the newspaper columnists etc
It's very easy to work out whose views to trust and whose is pure BS.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sadly this does not hold true for everyone, given the influence SM had on Brexit, Trump, covid misinformation etc. Think Tux.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Spreading disinformation is a big issue so I can see why you would have an aversion to Twitter or platforms like FB.
I still stick to my tried and tested method of tracing stories back to source (a credible source for starters) before believing it and then spreading it myself.

Twitter is the most efficient medium I know of to get a comprehensive view of what's going on. You need to be very judicious in who you follow, guard against confirmation bias, and try not to get sucked into the toxicity in the replies (you WILL get sucked into the toxicity). But use it well and you have the best reporters, the most authoritative experts, local sources, citizen journalists, the open source intelligence crowd, and feedback loops that facilitate accountability.

I am aware of the Wagner group and the rusich unit. These operate in exactly the same way as azov, aidar and dnipri 1 in Ukraine.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
They don't quite operate in 'exactly the same way' though, do they? They have been used extensively as death squads in Syria and multiple African countries, as well as providing a highly trained core in the original 'separatist rebellion' in Donbass and now in the wider invasion of Ukraine. It has been linked to the assassination of journalists. Wagner Group might be structurally similar to the origins of Azov as a private organisation operating with a slightly ambiguous relationship to the state. But I think the context of what they are actually doing kind of matters. One is engaged in defending its country from merciless invaders. The other is killing civilians in support of an imperialist state, and of its proxies.

One thing you do need to be careful of on Twitter is not getting caught in an echo chamber. Sometimes it pays to follow people you don't agree with as well as otherwise all you'll get via their algorithm is items aimed to you.
It is a great source of information though I find and it's also funny as anything at times. The Le Tissier comments and memes, for example, were gold.

These organisations have the same remit. And do exactly the same thing. Amnesty and OHCHR have highlighted the atrocities by these Ukrainian militia. They are cants.
The self defence and defending narrative doesn't wash their atrocities. If anything it's the chickens coming home to roost.

Amazes me that people buy into whatever bs is being pedddled when the facts are right there.
Or is it simply a case of "but but they can't be bad because they look like us"
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Eh? Don't the Russians look like us as well? Or just the Ukrainians? Bizarre comment.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
They are exactly the same.
These organisations have the same remit. And do exactly the same thing. Amnesty and OHCHR have highlighted the atrocities by these Ukrainian militia. They are cants.
The self defence and defending narrative doesn't wash their atrocities. If anything it's the chickens coming home to roost.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Amazes me that someone can get to such a nonsensical take

Russians were never seen as "like us". They were always them. Same as Bosnians.
