I’m not bothered by what he said, why would you be?

He’s probably right, 4 seasons under Bielsa was starting to really take its toll and some players probably won’t be able to train like that again.

I’m genuinely amazed though, that anyone can call him overrated, when he literally over achieved at Leeds.

Languishing in the championship and he takes us to a top 10 finish in the prem in 3 years, playing great football, with a small budget. From a financial point of view it was a great investment.

So many idiots following premier league football from other clubs. Just come across as really, really thick.

Not remotely bothered. He's keeping us up as it stands, that's all that matters.

Doubt bielsa would have any difference in points. We were coming into an easier stretch of games. Don't want to be negative but I'll wait to judge him on how he does next year. Savior is just way over the top.
Doubt if he'll ever have us playing as good football as Marcello.

Maybe Jesse Marsch is just getting fed up with the ongoing cult of Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds and this slipped out? It's not very diplomatic considering most of us think of Bielsa as a giant with great integrity who did a superb job for us, changing the entire culture of our club forever for the better.

But nobody's perfect and Marsch had to replace Bielsa or maybe we'd be down already by now. I'd be surprised if Marsch makes anything like the impression that Bielsa made but I'll be very grateful if he can keep us up this season. It's been a fuqing nightmare - injury stricken small squad, shipping goals left and right. Let's face it, we're not out of the woods yet - the next three or four are going to be tough games.

We all know that the players and team performance suffered as a result of Bielsa's training methods - all Marsch has done is tell it like it is. He's 100% not criticising Bielsa - he undoubtedly respects the man. So let's stop being so thin-skinned (and in some cases, sh!t stirring), move on and get behind the manager – he's doing a great job.

Absolutely right, Jaz, these are graceless comments by Marsch. Only those of us who have witnessed the transformation to our club brought about by Bielsa will ever appreciate what he means to LUFC.
Yes, he had his failings, but didn't he serve up consistently wonderful football during his tenure? There are so many great moments to choose from, the likes of which Culer will never understand or experience, because they are grounded in Bielsa's decency and belief in playing entertaining football.
When will Man U ever experience the emotion of a victory like this?

And look how many of those players are still with us today, in the Premier League - Ayling, Phillips, Klich, Forshaw, Harrison.
As Phillips said when Bielsa left, he saw something in me that I did not see myself.

Shouldnt have said this.

Even though its 100% true. Its why there had to be a change
----------------------------------------------------------------------

This.

I’m surprised how blunt he was. He could have said something like ‘we bring our own approach to physical conditioning and we’re confident this will help with player freshness and the injury situation long term.’

You're deluded. He's an average manager and achieved less in English football than the likes of Warnock and Allardyce. Facts.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not sure this is even worthy of a response
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You are right Kebab, it's not. Complete crap. Those dinosaurs took 30 years to achieve less than Marcelo in 3.5 years. I don't hear or ever expect to hear Pep even mentioning them!

Definitely could have been more diplomatic but the English press and numpty fans love to make a mountain out of a mole hill.

The Ted Lasso comments have also gotten old really fast. Judge the man on what we see on the pitch.

Anyone Leeds fans unhappy with the last 4 results?

Agree absolutely with this comment. I am sure Marsch has had some detailed conversations with the players about their situation and this would have come up. It was always my gut feeling watching in and seeing the spate of injuries and lethargic performances right from the get go in some of the our season games.

In an ideal world this stays between the players and him because it leads to scrutiny like this but he was honest just like Bielsa was before him. He doesn't disrespect him but feel that this is the feedback he has heard from talking to the players themselves.

Maybe so, Rob, but why risk dividing the dressing room into factions when he has done so much to improve the spirit of the squad?

I think the dressing room will be fine and looking in good shape. What's done is done. I would be astonished if groups of players will be falling out over a few comments in an interview on Talksport. They'll be fully focused on training and preparing for next lot of games.

I like him Johnny. I like his energy, openness and positivity laced with a bit of humour. Maybe he goes on a bit in interviews like I do in posts, but I like him.

Think he’s done great so far, football wise prioritising things he believes he can change quickly for maximum effect. Real judgement will come next year after a full preseason.

The mask definitely slipped on this one. He’s been very careful not to criticise bielsa, but this was a criticism whatever anybody says. Why did he say it? It came across as a premeditated comment. Maybe he felt the time had come to shed some light on an elephant in the room… maybe he was bigging himself up - saying my way is better, maybe he’s sick of hearing about St Marcelo when there is an untold story. But maybe it was actually a public way of defending the players by acknowledging they’ve been flogged.

Maybe he’s telling us and them that the players have given everything for the cause, are absolved for the mess the season is in and that they’re good enough if fresh.

Complete conjecture on my part, but he’s a smart guy and he clearly wanted this out there.

posted on 13/4/22

On reflection I think the timing of this most likely isn’t coincidental. Fits with a PR strategy. Placate the fans with eulogies about bielsa whilst they’re in mourning. Get a few positive results on board.. and pick your moment when the new boy is on an upward curve to spread the reasons why the new coach is actually here and the old one was sacked.

Still think it could have been done more subtlety if done at all.

posted on 13/4/22

Lets not forget, he was very complimentary about Bielsa when he joined and fully understood the somewhat discontent amongst some sections of the fans for Bielsa going. The players clearly look happier now than they did for the duration of this season, but that's hardly surprising for a team that's set up like a military unit.
Kind feels like he's the Clough taking over from Don a bit.

Yes, I have been impressed by Marsch too - but judging only by the results he's overseen in his first six.

Yes, the players have been flogged to the max - but it didn't need saying in public. Again, the results this season offer sufficient proof.

Results are the only thing that matters in this business, but we will certainly miss El Loco's crazy, wonderful, beautiful non-stop-attacking football.

^^^^^

No danger of that. We heard/read quite a few reports
that several players (Cooper mainly) going to Marcelo
and practically begging him to change things.

Not sure if anyone knows if the players were asking for
the training regime to change or binning man-to-man?

But we do know Cooper (the Captain) stepped up.
For him to do that, knowing the top bloke he is,
must've been as a representative of the team, not
himself. Which strongly suggests the team were united
in knowing things had to change. And they did.

I wasn't happy when Bielsa went, but I knew like many said his training methods with a small squad were not to good for players being used week in week out!..

We had our share off injuries last season but this season its been extrem!..

I don't think Marsh has gone against Bielsa, I think he's only saying that his training program was a bit much and the players suffered because off it!..

We were on a very bad run when Marsh came in, so 10pts from the last 4 games is really useful and hopefully the players have a little more belief in themselves to get us over the line!..

myself i don't buy into marcelo is to blame there were / are other teams who have / had asa many players out through injury

i buy into the squad size was too small & man to man marking was hurting us the more he played it, was becoming obvious to deal with by oppos.

I know one thing the players are loving since JM
came in: he's given them days off to mentally recharge.

Love Marcelo, but it takes an extremely strong bloke,
mentally, to hold up under MB's demands. They
absolutely paid off for us and the players. Just caught
up to us in the end. Doesn't make MB any less a
genius or legend in my mind.

I still believe Bielsa would have kept us up.

We can only speculate what is going on at the club day to day, but here was are given an insight from Jesse, and while that’s his opinion or observation, it looks like his style is going to be transparent.

In hindsight, these players looked absolutely flogged!
