It's a bit of a leap to assume that the wealthiest 5% are the best brains in any given country. Plenty of highly intelligent people devote their talent and intellect to the benefit of others rather than to trying to hog all of the wealth themselves.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You can argue about the phrase but not the migration which was real. It dropped by about 200k between 60s and 70s but it was less the gross number as the tax they were no longer paying. Whether they were brainy or not was irrelevant but there was a reason for the phrase. Even musicians have brains for some things.

History shows that when people are left to their own devices economies prosper. People make communities, commerce etc etc. Govts steal your wealth but sadly we have far too many who look to 'the govt' to solve their problems.

Taxation is theft. It's as simple as that.

As for Rwanda....................isn't it time that Wobbbb started a thread about what's going on in his own country?
Maybe that's too close to home.

This will deter people turning to people smugglers.

This means fewer poor people drowning.

It also means those silly enough to, will still get a safe existence, in Rwanda.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah. It’s got a great track record for peace, good old Rwanda…
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Imagine risking your life fleeing an oppressive or war torn country only to be sent to another country that was itself war torn not too long ago

Imagine fleeing a country leaving behind the elderly, children, and women? They could do with a touch of Ukrainians blood.

It’s not a surprise that people that don’t like asylum seekers agree with the Tories, they’re making Britain an undesirable place to come. For shame.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We can't feed and heat our own citizens.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The UK is one of the richest countries in the world, and has very, very, very comfortably enough wealth to feed and heat its own citizens.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Where does the wealth go then?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well almost half of it goes to the top 10% of households.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And the top 5% of earners pay around 50% of all taxes...
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Wrong.

Where did I say that? I’m saying they should pay more tax than they do. Government corruption is the reason they don’t.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's the extrapolation.

5% pay 50% so if they paid twice that they'd pay it all.

Do keep up.

Cool! A pie chart!

If 5% contributes 50%, then pays twice, doubling the amount it contributes, the result is a 66.7% contribution.

Seriously, Year 5.

I've never understood why a refugee isn't made to claim in the first EU nation they touch soil on, bar a specific reason they need to come to the UK. If there was some sort of charter between nations it'd be far fairer in my view.

So the idea of countries sharing the quota once they claim in the first EU country they arrive in is beyond your comprehension? Eait...course it is 😂

You always add so much value to the conversation Elanga 😂

This initiative will also be a positive step in disrupting the business model of the gangs and traffickers who are responsible for these crimes of shipping people illegally across the channel

It’s about time we’ve had some decisive action on this matter
----------------------------------------------------------------------
To the detriment of the asylum seekers themselves?

Genius move.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Economic migrants once they are safe and start making choices about where they want to settle.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You have not one crumb of a clue what you’re talking about, do you?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I know the difference between seeking safety, and deciding which country you fancy living in.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What about which country you fancy seeking safety in?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I doubt those genuinely seeking refuge are thinking about where they can get the better cup of coffee or have an old school friend.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Having lived a privileged life you have no clue what you're on about.

posted on 15/4/22

Apparently according to BBC...lawyers can't decide if asylum seekers travelling by boat over the channel either with passports or not are acting illegally

You both made an @rse of it.

MY interpretation was clear. That the top 5% pay twice the amount so would pay the whole tax budget for the country and removing the 95% from taxation completely. YOU yourself took umbrage at my assumption so you knew exactly where I was coming from but chose to ignore it.

Whereas you and your bum chum made your OWN assumptions that none of the less well off would be lifted out of taxation and would continue paying as they do now and tried to score some cheap point on arithmetic.

Facts.

Taxation doesn’t work like that though, does it?

You ready to row back on your (false) assertion that the “top 5% of earners pay around 50% of all taxes”?

(I’ll give you a little clue: less than 25% of UK public sector receipts come from personal income taxes. Here’s another clue you might need: 25% means one quarter.)

Contributed to society all my working life. All it’s got me is rising in taxes, NI, food, utilities etc etc whilst this lot rob us blind and do what they want, regardless of the law.

Keep defending them though
