What is the point in squad and shirt numbers these days?

Is it for the ref's and fans who can't read yet, or is it me showing just couple of miles on the clock?
Only place I can see the point is holding up a sub board, as they don't make the boards big enough for names or positions.

Clubs can't make that much from selling numbers and ironing them on can they.

Perhaps we should ask the EFL to order the use of shapes on shirts, to account for all the fancy formation names we have. Formation names and shapes are like the Playschool windows these days.

I guess it's a all a sign of the times, we'll have smart shirts before long. Never needed any fancy stuff when we played 30 a side on the gravel.

Re shirt numbers: in the last couple of years it has become fashionable to refer to playing positions by the old 1-11 numbering system, perhaps they'll bring back leather caseys, kits that can absorb four gallons of rain water, and proper 70s hooliganism. When they go on about "a false 9", or "he can play as a 10", or even on the radio this week I heard them describe someone as an "8 or a 6" - anyone aged under 50 must wonder what on earth they are talking about.

Leather caseys? It brings back bad memories for me. I once had one kicked at me, well not intentionally, But I ended up with a buckled fracture of the arm.

It was sodden by being previously kicked in the riverthat surrounded our pitch.

I regularly boosted my chest and arm muscles by carrying the wet and muddy kit home 3 miles when it was my mum's turn to wash it.
We never did get over the left backs mum using bleach when it was her turn to was the kit.

We've been rumbled.
Leg it.

Talking about strengthening arm muscles, When I was a young boy I used to carry 20ib of potatoes home from the greengrocers.

I was one of six children and we needed 20lb of potatoes on regular basis. There weren't many cars around in the days just after the war years, and it was shanksies poney or the bus. Supermarkets hadn't been invented in those days.

Did you know that $pud$ is a banned word on the forum? Has this forum gone overboard on WOKE?

Don't mention carrying string bags from the grocers.

Even when I went to the sweet shop next door to the veg shop. There was always one of the old neighbours coming out with a string bag full of tatties!

I swear my dad did it. He must have told all the old dears I was in the cubs, which gave them the authority to tell me to carry their shopping home for them.

Try going to the sweet shop alone. I never got home with just a Sherbet dip and a bag of flying saucers, without carrying somebody else's string bag full of shopping.
Try playing 3 and in at the garden gate and an old neighbour would shout. Not telling us to clear off and play somewhere else. It was always one of them asking one of us to run to the shops for them.

Imagine that now? Kids going to the shops alone, never mind carrying a neighbor's string bag full of shopping home for them.

I could do with visiting the UK heat wave to cool down for a bit.

Talking of football

Anybody expecting much from today up at Carlisle?
I'm thinking the Huddersfield one will be the one to watch. Hopefully IE will at least start that one with what he thinks is the best 11 for the opening day down in at Ipswich.

I believe the shorter version of potatoes is a childish slur on a North London football club based in the Tottenham area which is why admins have removed it.

I read a preview of today's game which suggests this is the last game for the fringe lads to impress.

Sounds good to me Cid
Will it spur IE on to make a signing next week?

You'd like to think now we've passed the 13k season ticket mark; we'd have earned a treat of a live stream today.

It's no surprise that well known hot baked potato takeaway disappeared from the highstreets is it. With a name like theirs it would be a lost cause in today's strange world.
I did here they contemplated rebranding to Hot Tatties. Sadly, on a survey too many people said images of page 3 girls popped into their heads when they said the name.

Its true about going to the shops for neighbours. If I was lucky I would get sixpence for my trouble.

And we are underway.

I don't think that Admin 1 can give us a live thread today.
