There's texts where he admits he headbutted her and texts between her and (I think) agent from all the way back in 2014 where she talks about how sorry Depp is for kicking her and he promises to do better.
I also don't really agree with this whole "he's been cancelled" thing. His acting career has slowly gone down the pan the last few years because he's largely been in dud films and he's getting on quite a bit.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
On texts about kicking, I've not seen or read anything about them, but remember if they exist they are only allegations, not evidence.
On the headbutt... Depp's version of events was that Heard was hitting him repeatedly and that in his attempts to restrain her, they collided heads. I accept that "it was an accident, guv", is a bit of a go-to claim, of course, and one that we shouldn't take at face value. However it seems a few other things are true; Heard produced photos of black eyes & a bloodied lip as evidence, except black eyes & a bloodied lip are not consistent with a clash of foreheads. Maybe if she'd broken her nose you get black eyes, but she had no damage to the nose, which suggests a clash of foreheads (deliberate or accidental). There's audio from the aftermath in which Depp says they clashed foreheads. So the injuries Heard claims she received from that event very likely are not true, which casts a dark cloud over her claims altogether.
And we've since seen that time after time, injuries she claims to have received are simply not evident in any photos.
The text to Heard's Dad doesn't say that he headbutted her. He's apologising for things escalating in their fights more generally, but as far as I'm aware, there's no reference in the texts to a headbutt.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Don't get me wrong, she sounds awful and like someone who has exaggerated it a fair bit, but there seems to be this weird belief on social media that because of that Depp was totally innocent and did nothing wrong. In reality it seems like they both abused each other.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
"In reality it seems like they both abused each other."
I'm not sure I follow given the lack of evidence that they "abused each other". If "reality" = the evidence we currently have available then I'm not sure how you're making that conclusion. There's evidence aplenty that they were constantly arguing. There's evidence that Depp slammed a few cupboard doors and didn't mince his words during arguments - some reactive verbal abuse at most, none of which is denied or contested. But there's no evidence that I've seen that depict him as having been domestically violent, and he's no history of domestic violence. One lone ex-partner claims he was verbally abusive at times, back in the mid 90's, and that's about it. Other partner's have spoken in his defence previously.
I've no idea what people are saying on social media, though whatever they are saying I would hope is based on the evidence available and not some pre-existing affection for Depp. I've no stake in the outcome, and am forming a view from only the evidence. If that evidence changes, so to will my understanding of the case.
Conclusion? I need to get a new hobby!

Its always very black and white in the media with this sort of thing, villain and a hero.
He is this charming hero, who just likes to drink and take some drugs, because he has had such a tortured life.
She is a a gold digger who was only after him for his money, and lies about every single thing to get more money/fame.
In reality, they were both probably abusive to each other, when they realised her looks wasn't enough to make him happy, and his money wasn't enough for her. Now they're both desperate to reignite their careers, and looks like Johnny Depp has achieved this whatever the jury verdict is, he will be back making big movies again.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Are you saying this based on having watched/followed the trial, or just a general vibe from it being in the news? I don't recognise much of your take on things from having now consumed a shameful amount of the trial, so am curious where this perspective has come from?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
From watching this trial and reading around it. There is a recording of him saying he headbutted her... he glosses over this in the trial, stating he accidentally headbutted her in self defence or something.
He is also clearly drunk/drugged up in various audio recordings where he comes across as verbally abusive at least.
She comes across as a narcissistic, and he definately comes across better in the court room. But then he is a far better actor, with far more expensive lawyers, so its hard to judge.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'd covered the headbutt claim in more detail already in this thread. From what I can tell, the quote from the recording is somewhat removed from context, and his claim that it was an accident whilst trying to restrain her is somewhat supported by the fact her alleged injuries aren't consistent with what she said happened; something that has become a clear theme during this trial. I've obviously no clue who is being truthful and who isn't, but one version of events appears more credible than the other based on what we now know, and as far as I can tell, it isn't Heard's.
I can't say with any certainly what each of their motives are; I don't know them. I'd never heard of Heard until a couple weeks ago. But Depp has form for trying to clear his name in this area. Whilst not impossible, I do find it hard to believe he'd be going through multiple such court cases to clear his name and fight libel cases if the motivation were to simply resurrect his acting career, rather than as a genuine effort to correct the record and clear his name as a domestic abuser.
Sounds like they're both abusive to each other, her in a more manipulative way and him in a more reckless out of control way due to his drink/drug use.
Is kind of fascinating but I think both seem awful and should fade into obscurity.

What's funny is he always asks for sources from people.
The evidence I’ve seen seems to put Heard as the abuser and instigator. Depp seems to be just a mess but an isolated mess who takes himself away from situations rather than create them.
I still dont understand why he lost the UK case against the Sun.
Because it was a different case that was about trying to prove that Depp wasn’t a wife beater. What Heard did was completely irrelevant to the outcome. Today has also shown that she lied under oath at least once in that case.

----------------------------------------------
That's a rather facetious interpretation of my point. Do I find it hard believe someone might want to resurrect their successful career? No, obviously.
But that question in isolation from the specifics of the libel/defamation cases Depp has put himself through is an entirely different one which bears little resemblance to what is and has been happening.
Depp has pursued at enormous cost (including losing vs The Sun) to himself two libel cases, and not just financially. He has opened up his own demons & faults to the entire world; video & photos of himself in unflattering or embarrassing circumstances, audio of himself drunk or in distress or engaged in an intimate conversation that wasn't intended for public consumption, private messages that again, were certainly not intended for the public. His children & family have to see all of this & he himself is known to be a private individual.
So given those circumstances, is it likely all of this is some great ploy to be in big movies again? I don't think so in this case. He's wealthy enough to never have to work a single second ever again, with the risk to both his financial health AND his reputation (and his career of course) being greatly more precarious should he lose this case as well.
Anyone whose seen any video footage of her giving her defence during this trial know she's acting, and acting terribly

------
We can both believe what we want. Before this trial he was only able to make low budget movies, because they had kicked him off Pirates and that Harry Potter spin off. To me he had little to lose with this trial, he was already percieved in a negative way, and had little career left to lose. He has potentialy huge amounts financially to gain.
I think getting back to being paid 50 mill a movie, instead of a few hundred thousand, is incentive enough to go through the court process. You don't think so. We don't have to agree on that point.
The face she made after "my dog stepped on a bee" quote has had me cracking up for days.

I still dont understand why he lost the UK case against the Sun.

From what I've read the judge basically took her account as gospel and ignored a load of evidence that undermined it.

You find it hard to believe somebody would want to resurrect their acting career which was making them 50 million a movie?

Next time she turns to answer to the jury I'm punching her in the face

We can both believe what we want. Before this trial he was only able to make low budget movies, because they had kicked him off Pirates and that Harry Potter spin off. To me he had little to lose with this trial, he was already percieved in a negative way, and had little career left to lose. He has potentialy huge amounts financially to gain.
I think getting back to being paid 50 mill a movie, instead of a few hundred thousand, is incentive enough to go through the court process. You don't think so. We don't have to agree on that point.

The face she made after "my dog stepped on a bee" quote has had me cracking up for days.
