There's no way Liverpool lost their bottle cos of United and decided to just pay more 😂
Player is always going to Liverpool in that situation and I think the club and player would be aware of that. Sounds like bs that bit for sure. United aren't an easy sell nowadays especially compared to Liverpool.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Just purely contrasting the media stories
Early yesterday it was Liverpool were confident they had their man irrespective of who else bid and could negotiate the fee down
End of the day they paid what benfica wanted and the huge add ons
pinch of salt, sticking Man United in an article gets clicks, still refuse to believe ten hag wanted him. While he was a threat against Liverpool on the break his touch was so poor and for a team that struggles to break down the low block he’d be another lukaku.
I’ll be surprised to see how effective he is for Liverpool without an acreage to run into
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well as I said, idea that united drove the price up is bs I'm sure. May sell newspapers but the idea of united competing with Liverpool is just silly atm. If a player even thought about United after a bid from Liverpool I'm sure Liverpool would just walk away from the deal. Don't want a player who's just interested in cash they gotta have ambition too.
Nunez is a poacher and nothing like what Liverpool have. Big, strong and a finisher. Also very strong in the air, which is something Liverpool never really had with their other options.
Fee is unknown atm but after losing Mane, CL $ and them selling he dead wood for decent $ it's hardly gonna be a gamble.for the club. He can't flop harder than what Lukaku and Pogba have in recent years 😂
There is some real salty sourness on this OP, I had to laugh, look at what Utd fans are reduced to now.
Arguing whether they made Liverpool pay more for they player they are going to miss out on as a mid table team.
Good luck in the second tier of Europe lads

Not really ten hag has spoken many times about what he wants from his players and what he looks for.
Nunez is widely accepted to lack that first touch and close control. He’s rapid and a great eye for goal.
Just doesn’t make sense why he’d be interested in spending 89m on such a gamble given the rebuild we need.
Just seems like media bs. Player doesn’t fit, we supposedly have a somewhat limited budget, we have a lot of positions needing coverage.
Explain to me how going for Nunez would make any sense whatsoever at that cost!?

Panic buy in response to City landing Haaland. Silly money for an unproven player.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Who else could we have signed with Mane leaving?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I mean like for like
Antony at Ajax would be more of a like for like imo
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He plays on the right.
He’d be a good signing if Salah was leaving.
Who for Mane?

Torres chose a then weak Liverpool over Man United
So hardly that crazy as you make out. It’s kinda weird being spoken down to by Liverpool fans atm.
They’re just another PL team. Not champions, not European champions. Just another PL team but for some reason seem to think they’re kings.
Here’s a question for Pool fans, Haaland is clearly currently the better striker than Nunez.
He was available cheaper.
Why did he choose City over Liverpool? Now if you say money, you realize you’ve already made the argument that players would choose a better team over money
So discuss..

Could; and it isn’t necessarily a terrible move by Liverpool given where their squad is at, but United have dodged a bullet I think.
Liverpool are buying a player who’ll deliver them goals, but they’ve overpaid IMO, something United can’t afford to do given the amount of work their squad needs.
There are also questions about how Nuñéz fits into Klopp’s system I think. But I’m sure he’ll already have ideas about adjusting accordingly.
In short, probably a decent, if very pricey, signing for Liverpool. Would have been the wrong choice for United.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Dodged a bullet
He’s young and scores plenty of goals.
I know you’re lot go for ibra, cavani, Ronaldo type signings however we have a strategy
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Lol ibra was actually a good signing till he got hurt
Wasn’t Ronaldo 3rd or 4th top scorer last season?
Cavani was free.
Can point to a lot of our failings in the transfer market, there’s plenty, but ibra, Ronaldo and cavani for 20m transfer fees combined when you’ve just spent 89m on someone who would be lucky at the end of his career to be even mentioned in the same breath is not the track to take here
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Signing a bunch of pensioners for 20m isn't such a good idea, compared to a young striker at 80, when u factor in they have no resell value and them 3 alone prob cost united easily over a mill a week in wages.
United also haven't had any success really in that period whereas Liverpool can buy Nunez just from dead wood sales and CL $ and still have plenty of change for other signings.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Who said that?
Let's wait for the deal to be done and the dust to settle. One thing about reporting on Liverpool deals is that the maximum payable is often what's quoted as the fee. We initially paid 4m for Jota with instalments to be paid upto about half the quoted fee. The rest will be paid depending on Jota's apps, performances and the success of the team. Initial reports suggested otherwise. Wouldn't be surprised if this deal is structured like that.
All our big signings, except Keita who hasn't had a good fitness record, have gone on to be some of the best we've seen in a red shirt so there's no reason not to be confident. But the Keita fee will have been impacted by a lack of game time and persistent injuries.
So 5 or 6 being sold for apparently 90m
Nunez being bought for nearly 70m
How much did Diaz cost again? 37m?
So 90m recouped from 107m spend not bad at all.
But how long can you go losing 6 to sign 2?
If salah goes for free next season that’ll be another 80m needed, how much to replace Firminho? 70m?
Seems to be some short sightedness here
Thing is, if Nunez is our last signing of the summer and the incomings and outgoings are as suggested, we will still have a negative net spend for this transfer window. Amazing, isn’t it?

He was a Liverpool fan and Benitez was there. Torres turned United down before he agreed the Liverpool deal, it wasn't like united and Liverpool both went for him at the same time.
As for Haaland. Last season Nunez had a better goal to game ratio. Both played in suspect leagues and Haaland was injured more, so hard to compare. Liverpool couldn't afford Haaland. Fee they could. Agent fee and wages no chance.
Liverpool also have about 1 point less than City over the last 3 seasons, in total, and that's including when they had no defence one season.
May hurt united fans knowing Liverpool aren't their competition atm for sure but it's reality. Look at uniteds signings and wage bill the last few seasons. Look at what they've achieved. The two teams are on totally different trajectories

I’ll be surprised to see how effective he is for Liverpool without an acreage to run into
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You’re just pushing the narrative as you want it to be, simple as that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not really ten hag has spoken many times about what he wants from his players and what he looks for.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Journo’s who have been following the transfer all along have said United were interested, it’s not just Twitter talk. I reckon they probably have more access to what’s actually going on than you, wouldn’t you say?
You’re in denial.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Same journos who said it was between you and real for tchoumeni?
So you had 80m for him and 89m for Nunez?
Journos talk nonsense. It’s the quiet season, they have to “make” news.
Not one person has given me any rational argument as to why the same journos saying Ten Hag has a limited budget, would gamble most of it on a man who would do nothing but vie for Ronaldo’s job?!
Makes no common sense at all
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What, you’re saying we weren’t interested in tchoumeni? How do you know this?
It seems you’re picking and choosing what’s true and what isn’t based on what you want to believe. Bit daft really.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Do fans care about record fees, net spend etc. If so why?
I couldn't give a toss, it's not my money.
Next to nothing for Cantona
Record fee for Keane
I never cared when I watched them play

No what I’m saying is several of you have made the argument of negative spend and such
But if you’d signed both you’d be way in the red
So what is the strategy? Spend what you sell or spend above and beyond.
Pretty sure when city sell Jesus they’ll be negative net spend too.
They’ve added one of the two top young forwards in the world and you’ve lost in my opinion your most key player attacking. Salah gets the stats. But mane is the one I always worry about more.
Again, klopp spending stupid money on an unproven forward and an unproven midfielder would be against everything he’s ever bleated on about.

Seems to be some short sightedness here
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You’ve missed two signings, but never mind….
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We've made enormous amounts prize money.
Signing a bunch of pensioners for 20m isn't such a good idea, compared to a young striker at 80, when u factor in they have no resell value and them 3 alone prob cost united easily over a mill a week in wages.
======
They pay Ronaldo alone about the as much as we pay VVD, Salah and Mane combined. United were in the Champions League and 2nd in the league when Ronaldo joined. He fecked up their gameplay and rythm, fecked up their dressing room as well and made fans toxic against some of their players, got Ole Gonna Flopskjaer the sack too and delivered them into Ropey League glory while only taking 600k a week in wages alone.
After spending a quarter of a billion euros on the Paul Flopba deal who is leaving them on a free for the second time even though they bought him twice for over £90m, and paying Cavani more than any player at Liverpool to do nothing but prance around the Old Trafford physio room, we have to put our hands up and concede that no one does it quite like United.

Arguing whether they made Liverpool pay more for they player they are going to miss out on as a mid table team.
Good luck in the second tier of Europe lads

Could; and it isn’t necessarily a terrible move by Liverpool given where their squad is at, but United have dodged a bullet I think.
Liverpool are buying a player who’ll deliver them goals, but they’ve overpaid IMO, something United can’t afford to do given the amount of work their squad needs.
There are also questions about how Nuñéz fits into Klopp’s system I think. But I’m sure he’ll already have ideas about adjusting accordingly.
In short, probably a decent, if very pricey, signing for Liverpool. Would have been the wrong choice for United.

I know you’re lot go for ibra, cavani, Ronaldo type signings however we have a strategy

I’ll be surprised to see how effective he is for Liverpool without an acreage to run into
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You’re just pushing the narrative as you want it to be, simple as that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not really ten hag has spoken many times about what he wants from his players and what he looks for.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Could; and it isn’t necessarily a terrible move by Liverpool given where their squad is at, but United have dodged a bullet I think.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ah yes I forgot players play for free at Liverpool, there’s no agent fees and it’s simple just a transfer fee.
Funny that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Wait so are you saying that Nunez wages and signing fee will be anything like what Ibra, cavani and R7s was?
Come on. Give your head a wobble 😂

Thing is, if Nunez is our last signing of the summer and the incomings and outgoings are as suggested, we will still have a negative net spend for this transfer window. Amazing, isn’t it?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So you say fees you spend are not accurately reported but then use figures you sell for to be accurately reported.
You see a flaw in this logic right?

======
