".. the freedom to do whatever you want and not as afraid to be who wanna be rather than only be popular if you fall into the right crowd or are the correct stereotype."
Pretty sure this isn't a new thing, they just bang on about it far more.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
na man people who were "different" got slaughtered back in the day. goths and homoz got terrorised in ad out of school
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Meh, some did, some didn't, I bet it's much the same now. Willing to concede my ignorance, but I bet there's still plenty of knuckle draggers picking on the 'weirdos' despite how much people moan about how 'woke' everything is.....in fact probably because of it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
na it wasnt just a couple of knuckle draggers that made life difficult for those different back then it was the majority. and we were all prob guilty of it. Back in the 90's it was cool to be the bully almost, the jock who makes fun of the others.
jocks were the cool ones back then , now all the kids are cool nowadays ... different is almost celebrated and encouraged.
far more opportunities now, far less financial trouble.
Some people get more on benefits than those who work nowadays !!
Back when we were younger, kids had an opinion, then it was smacked outta them and they had to toe the line.
Now the adult gets jailed for not only physical damage but for mental ones too. kids are so protected these days.
as kid now you have access to any film you want, any game you want.
In fact arguemnt ender right here and now:
90's you had to hope to find a page or two of a mag in the bushes and pray it hadnt been rained on.
Now a kid can whack on whatever fantasy he /she wants to rip one off to.
not one person on here convinces me that kid version of them would choose the options of the 90's over today

Late 80’s early 90’s.
Like has already been mentioned, enough tech to keep you occupied. Less of the politically correct nonsense.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
One thing about being in school in the 80s though was that we were always told about the threat of nuclear disaster. It was talking about the Cold War of course but the fact there was a nuclear reactor five miles away played a bit on our minds too. We were told by teachers it'd be targeted in a war!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
All we were told in school in the 80s was that we were going to hell

Course I would. If you told a teenage me I could have one device that could have endless movies on it and pretty much all the music in the world for less than the price of a CD in a month while having all the pron I wanted that my parents could never find while 'cleaning' my room I'd absolutely rip your arm off.
Whether this world is better for a young person than the world pre-wifi and smartphones is a good debate.

All people are really saying is that life was better when they were younger, with the exception of the last few pandemic years, it almost always rings true.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You can't say it was better when you were older. So it's now or a time in the past

Usually by a brother with a striking resemblance to father jack
For me, 1966. England won the World cup on my 21st?
I got to see George, Denis and Bobby almost every week.
All my family still alive.
Bought my first new car.
Got engaged.
Put a deposit on a house.
I was full of optimism, good job, good health,
mates.
Life was great, and never ending.
Plus I was immortal, no air bags, child proof medicines, no catalytic converters, etc.

yeah ... the BBC was way more engaging back then !
My favourite periods are the medieval era, the 80s and the 90s.
I got made redundant in 2012 at the age of 50 the last 10 years have been brilliant...
90s was awesome, things began to go south from 2003. I'll go back to the 90s anytime
Mid to late 70’s was a great time to grow up - loved those years….loved seeing my team win the League and 2 European Cups

Oh and the Beatles, Stones etc.
Probably before worldwide news coverage became a regular thing.
The late mid to late 70s …………punk rock
Probably the Late Upper Palaeolithic.
Weird animals everywhere, food plentiful and pigs and sheep already domesticated, so bacon sarnies for breakfast and lamb chops for dinner. Mammoths to ride around on. Cave bears already extinct, so your cave is safe. No wars yet. Cool clothes, art and pottery. No Kardashians, no Ant and Dec.
What’s not to like?
