I think Casemiro would be really good for us if we had some other good midfielders to control games, he'd be a huge upgrade on our current lot in terms of positioning and sensing danger in front of the defence.
Our problem is that our midfield unit is such a mess, that if we only sign 1 proper midfielder everyone will expect them to be some kind of saviour and when we don't stop conceding soft goals/don't start controlling possession/don't progress the ball better they'll instantly be labelled a flop or have the price tag questioned.
We needed more than 1 midfielder, no matter who it is.
Pointless exercise.
Just another name to add to the merry-go-round of an already over-filled midfield department. Except for perhaps width-wise, there is plethora of genuine capabilities and talent to select from in that area.
Those midfielders just need a focal point, in the form of old-school strikers.

Him, FDJ and Rabiot are all completely different in the way they play. Wtf do we even want?

Talk was that Rabiot wasn’t an alternative to FDJ, he was supposedly in addition to.
Casemiro you would imagine to be the same.
We probably will get the deal done but would anyone be surprised if Real announced him signing a new lucrative deal on Monday with them and he just used us to leverage a deal 😄

The one I’m still really struggling to wrap my head around (despite the club’s longstanding interest in him) is Rabiot.
How on Earth would United line up with him and any given midfielder in the mould of FDJ unless a diamond was seriously on the cards? (In which case, why would you fork out ridiculous money on FDJ?)
Casemiro and FDJ would actually make some sense.
It’s not gonna happen but just imagine these three late-in-window signings

Pointless exercise.
