Another stupid, overpriced signing.
I'm wondering if this is a last ditch attempt to smoke FDJ out? It'd also help Casemiro get a better deal at Real. I'm not against the player as such but quite a hefty fee and wages that.

Would much rather us be throwing crazy money at West Ham for Rice and be set up for the next decade than sign a player who just sees us as his retirement fund now he’s won all the trophies.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yup. This will haunt us.

I'd even prefer us to pay FDJ's Barca deferred wages... and that really is saying something.
As stop gaps go, I think Casemiro could be good... But i'm sick of stop gaps.
Rice probably wouldn’t join us and would be valued far more than £60m. Although I doubt his wages would be as crazy.

£120 million for Rice would be better than £60 million for Casemiro. And as you say, the wages over the years might bring that difference in transfer fees down.
Maybe Rice wouldn’t join us but have we even tried? We could promise to make him captain and build the side around him.

I am surprised he is still at West Ham.
Rice will go to Chelsea next summer imo.
Casemeiro is still a top level DM and probably has a good couple of years left maybe 3. Big improvement on any of our current options.
Not the kind of signing I thought we’d be making now days but he dan buy us time until our new scouting structure (is there one yet?) can find some more long term targets.
The money I just ignore now days. Means nothing to me while the Glazers are still here sucking us dry.
Picture the scene
Tuesday morning - get battered by Liverpool
Tuesday night - we sign Casemiro, Rabiot and Icardi
Dads Army to the rescue

It’s not really a stop gap though. He’ll cost 60 million, on big wages and probably on a 5 year deal. I don’t rate Rice as highly as some but I’d genuinely rather spend 100 million on him than get Casemiro.
Still wonder who we will be using under ETH to progress the ball like he so clearly wants FDJ to do, because none of our squad can do that from deep.

Rice ain’t worth £120m!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
For what he’s worth to us as a player it’s worth overpaying to get him to the club. It’s better money spent than £60 million on Casemiro.

Yes I totally agree with Robb here.
Gary will categorize Casemiro as a red signing, so would I.
By other words, it will fit into our transfer policy
And please none of this he’s a winner nonsense.

In playing terms, he'd very likely be a stop gap... 2-3 years and we'd be left looking for another player in his position.
