Has there ever been a player before who has had this much hate and shade thrown in his direction? I am struggling to recall a player who was mocked in unison by not only rival fans but also fans of his own club. What kind of impact would this have on a person? Put aside your hate for him for a moment or the fact his earns more than you can ever imagine earning but imagine yourself being scolded, ridiculed, mocked and belittled for every small mistake you made in your working or personal life. Do you think this is something a person could ever recover from? Is such resentment towards a person justifiable?
What are peoples thoughts on the current wave of negativity that surrounds United's first team captain?

DAMN YOU!!!!!!!
It is ridiculous the level of abuse thrown at him by our own fans, for simply not being worth what our idiotic board decided to pay, which isn't his fault. Neither is it his fault he doesn't suit our new managers style of football either.
Of course it's not justified. But it's how social media operates.
Oscar Wilde. 'Give a man a mask and you see his true face'.
Anonimity is the mask. If he's sensible he won't read any of it.
Some of the treatment of him is inexcusable.
Not a hate figure but Forlan at Utd was a proper fish out of water player but Utd weren't struggling for quality back then, so fans weren't as vocal.

Yeah but he came from Uruguay, and made the scousers cry
Rooney, Carrick, Giggs, Valencia all got tons of stick off our own fans.
Whilst I wouldnt say Maguire deserves all the stick, he simply isn't anywhere near good enough for a top side. The fee just magnifies this.
Maguires inflated opinion of himself also doesn't help.

Er yes, David Beckham. The hate for this man was off the charts. Even as a fan, I saw rivals team up to have a pop at us, cos we were the only ones in the damn country to have his back for 4 years!!
Obviously hate is a strong word, and people take it too far, but with Maguire the criticism of his play is valid.

you're thinking of darwin nunez
It's a symptom of the kind of discourse we inhabit these days. Positions are entrenched, simplistic and hyperbolic. His defects are obviously magnified to an absurd degree. But even if he were as bad a player as the herd believes, I don't understand the impulse to hate one of our own players for that crime. When I think about all of the players we've had over the years I've watched United, there are plenty of mediocre ones, but I still remember them with affection, unless they were vile human beings. They were one of us.
I do feel a bit sorry for him. Phil Jones is another. I get that they are millionaire footballers, but they are still people.
Tom Cleverley was speaking not long ago about the abuse he got from fans, and in particular the petition that was made to have him removed from the England squad. Must have been so horrible getting that from your own fans.
Another was Darron Gibson, he closed his Twitter account after a couple of hours because of all the abuse he received. People can be absolute cuuuuuunts.
The weirder part is how much non united fans seem to hate him too.
I thought it was Bruno Fernandez , an odious creature 😂
I forget his name, Luke something, played for us in the late 90s, iirc... He got so much stick for being ugly... He was on the news recently saying how much it hurt him, especially off our own fans

Maguire getting Booed for England just shows the social media culture around this stuff... He generally plays very well for the national team.
