Keane used to bully Cadwick, he nicknamed him Plug from the Bash Street Kids. Think Butt had to stick up for him one time because Keane was so harsh on him.

It's a symptom of the kind of discourse we inhabit these days. Positions are entrenched, simplistic and hyperbolic. His defects are obviously magnified to an absurd degree. But even if he were as bad a player as the herd believes, I don't understand the impulse to hate one of our own players for that crime. When I think about all of the players we've had over the years I've watched United, there are plenty of mediocre ones, but I still remember them with affection, unless they were vile human beings. They were one of us.

I might be recalling this wrong, but I think most of the hate for Maguire started with the whole Greece incident. Up until then, I don't remember the volume of negative opinion against him being so loud.
Yeah that’s true. Football fans were really offended by him saying he hates Greek civilisation.

His arrogance is what brings him so much hate.
Some of the stuff he comes out with would make you think he's a multi Pl,CL, world cup winner but he's won nowt.
His greatest achievement is conning his way into Manchester United and being made captain.

Tbf I'd happily accept six figures a week (after tax) if the only significant prices were staying physically fit & avoiding typing my name into the internet. I'd accept a tenth of his wages. The pressure of knowing I contribute to affecting millions of people's moods on a weekly basis would weigh on me MUCH more than the few who take it so seriously they dedicate whole bashing articles/videos to how much I suck - those people have issues that go beyond football.
The world is a hard place full of damaged people, footballers lives aren't perfect but they get a VERY good deal. Any footballer with a shred of awareness wouldn't expect sympathy or want it.
I think you’re misunderstanding a lot of your “rival” fans feelings towards him. I don’t hate him at all. He’s very funny to watch.

He hardly stands out in that respect, and there are plenty of others with more defective personalities and less talent. I think it's to a large degree the fact he plays for a club with the profile of United (when we're awful). And partly to do with having a face many people irrationally want to smack.
Ronaldo after the 2006 WC ? Fellaini ? Jones ? Beckham ? Nani ? Anderson ? Bebe ?
United players get a level of hatred beyond anything players of other teams get, but there has been a few previous United players who have had about as much as Maguire does currently

Money makes the world of difference, it's freedom of choice & comfort of security. They have the luxury of knowing in most cases their physical quality of life & their families won't get affected by the quality of their performance at work - that's an extremely privileged position to be in before you get into the fact 99% of them are living their dreams. For all the natural pressures that come with that job, that's the trade off & it's a bloody good one.
This isn't about seeing them as robots, it's about realizing there's pluses & negatives to every job & being a footballer the pluses simply outweigh the negatives enormously provided you have the mentality for it, which next to all of them would otherwise they wouldn't have made it in such a competitive industry.
In 480BC Delphi warned his nation about the coming of Maguire:
“ The strength of bulls or lions cannot stop the foe. No, he will not leave off, I say, until he tears the country or the king limb from limb”
Are those the only situations in which sympathy and empathy can be displayed? It’s such a daft argument. These are still people under immense mental stress, their privilege doesn’t exclude them from it. It’s because of that shiiiiit attitude towards sportspeople that they don’t actually want to talk about their mental health - look at the Simone Biles stuff in the Olympics.

Honestly don't think I've ever seen a united footballer with as little ability as him that displays the amount of arrogance he does.
He is actual garbage on the football pitch for United. You're almost guaranteed some comedy when he plays.
Players like Ronaldo are arrogant yes, but I think he is deservedly so. He was the top player on the planet for a very, very long time - well him and Messi.
