People saying it's too much of a jump... why? What step should he take next and which clubs would fill that bill?
Good luck to the guy.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Some where where he is under pressure to succeed more than just staying up. If Potter ended 17th every season he'd still have his job, Tuchel has lost his after ending 4th and making a better start than Liverpool & Man United.
Will be going from no pressure, no big superstar egos, no budget to spend to having a Chairman who is buying the players expects the team to be winning and in contention and is willing to sack a manager 6 games into his reign as Chairman.
In any other line of work, this is a massive massive promotion. Sink or swim.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Think you need to take the chance when it comes your way. The reality is you have no idea when the chance will come again. Pep and klopp arent going anywhere anytime soon. Ten haags just in the door, conte not long either and arteta seems to have the backing of his superiors. Time 1 of these jobs come round again he might not be flavour of the month and the big job goes to the usual suspects.
Whats the next level down, leceister, villa, west ham or wolves maybe. Newcastle but again howe's not going anywhere soon by the looks of it. Is there anything he could achieve at them teams that he couldnt at brighton? Not for me.
He'll know the risks that come from taking that job but its far too good a chance to turn down.
It's not impossible to imagine Potter taking his next career step away from the PL. We've seen an increasing number of talented young English players go to Italy / Germany as (presumably) a stepping stone between being a fringe player at a big club or a star at a small one and returning to England ready to be a key player at a leading club. If they can do it, then why not a manager too. If nothing else, Potter would earn immeasurable hipster points if he turned down the Chelsea job and went to Dortmund / Milan instead.

Where are the options for a gentler incline?

I think Chelsea would be a good move for Potter, but he needs to be given a couple of seasons to get the team right, the board can’t expect instant results.
-------------------------------------------------------------
What people don't seem to understand is accepting the Chelsea job is actually a 2 for 1 offer.
You get the Chelsea job, and somewhere in the small print there's a guarantee you'll be Spurs manager within three years of your sacking. That's insurance most clubs can't match
Probably been said (at least I hope it has),
Potter not being with a top 6 club is mystifying.
If you sign him I reckon he'll be brilliant for you.
Hope this happens for his sake.
Ive faith in potter, not in chelsea so itll be up against him, he should go only on his terms and conditions, be wise to get a lot of assurances before even considering it.
if chelsea are just after quick short term success before firing again he'd be wise to turn them down.

If they were so would I. For there American sports team they sacked the manager who was incumbent when they bought the franchise after two years. They appointed a new manager and he is still in place today having been in place for something like 7 years. Not the behaviour of trigger happy owners and most reports lead us to believe that they were willing to work with and build a relationship with TT but that wasn't reciprocated. TT came to us after he was sacked due to poor relations with the owners of PSG and we were told it was likely to happen, I always felt that was more through desperation and the need to wum but it makes you wonder.

Opportune time to promote Emma Hayes from the womens team.
PL finishes for Brighton under Potter:
15th
16th
9th
I can't help but feel he's been made out to be much better than he actually is. Just about staying up twice and one mid table finish.
It's hardly the CV to take on a top club that demands success and isn't scared to sack a coach at any point.
It's a huge downgrade going from Tuchel to Potter.

Maybe we are getting a young manager with potential that will grow and succeed given the resources we can provide. Maybe he will fail. We have had top managers that have failed, I'm happy to take the chance.

Potter deserves a bigger club but why does it have to be Chelsea? A promising career down the drain then.

Well he's an intelligent man so there's still hope.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He is also ambitious
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He is doing well with Brighton. If he wants to show ambition he could wait until the end of the season to get a choice of more big teams.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Apparently he is excited to talk to Chelsea about it. That to me sounds like you had me at hello.
