It’s the reaction it deserved.

Diafol, I get there would always be that fear, so an independent Wales would be preferable. I guess the way of speculating on it, however, is that England would likely be a very different place to what it is now were a Federal Republic to ever happen - it’s certainly not something we’d see whilst there’s still so many right wing nationalists, Tories and Monarchists that are ruining the country and Union.

From my own perspective it would be interesting to see. I think there’s value in the Union if there are more equal partners.

The punchline was your comment about how politicians are held accountable for their actions, but as you clearly see here that ole Boris is still in a very handsomely paid position.
If he was truly held accountable, and punished for it, he wouldn't be earning more than most people still.

I hadn't seen your reply, sorry.

I haven't argued that we have a meaningful democracy in which people in positions of power are *adequately* held to account - plainly the opposite is true. Virtually every post-war PM or President would have been hanged in accordance with the Nuremburg principles if that were the case (I'm not in favour of hanging, for the record!).

My point was that politicians are at least *more* accountable to the public than private power via democratic means. I don't think that's controversial.

Though as an aside, I don’t think you’d find many actual socialists that would agree with the concept of a monarchy - it’s the antithesis of their core beliefs.

You never know but personally that kind of thing has never happened to me. I've never run my hand down a woman's back and ass by accident like that, and can't ever see it happening or even how it would happen, but it's possible I suppose.

Don't get me wrong. I've ran my hand down many a woman's back and ass many a countless times. Emphasis on the word "many", but it's always on purpose.

Indeed it is. I may not be a strict socialist but I am certainly very left wing. For example I would renationalise the trains, water. Increase tax on the highest earners, tax the windfall profits of the energy companies and initiate a drive to build council houses again.
I find I have no problem with this position and yet wanting to retain the monarchy. Most people want that so it's democratic, as the visitors from heads of state to Buck House show it gives us more standing in the world, we keep our position in Nato and other organisations.
It gives an opportunity to state our position on any current matter. The Queen has been respected at home and abroad, it remains to be seen how Charles will do.
I don't see why those two positions are incompatible, abolishing them won't make the general public richer or better governed, just fed up.
