it certainly spotted the rugby tackle on Fermino by hahahland ,so yeah VAR doing ok tbf
The Saliba handball was one spotted by VAR which the ref didn't see. Still garbage though 👍
VaR is just inconsistent like the ref on the pitch. It just makes it more anoying when they make a real stupid decision with VaR
It's improved decisions for sure. Can understand why people find the time it takes to decide certain things being annoying but for me at least it's worth it.
And of course it's fecking baffling when paid refs somehow get stonewall decisions wrong even with several replays
Another VAR ref would have interrupted it differently which is the problem.
If they can implement it properly and consistently then football would be much better for it IMO.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Agree. Too bad they can't.
As Murphy said he'd rather the game be allowed to flow and every now and then be pulled back if a goal scored and theres a foul that was let go. Than the game being constantly interrupted with every bit of contact given as a foul.
That said some of the stuff let go by Taylor and the lino specifically on Salah was a joke tbh. Never seen Salah so piissed off either.
One thing I don't really get is why they can't intervene on decisions like Salah's shot being given as a goal kick yesterday.
I understand we don't want games reffed solely from behind a screen, but something like that could surely be checked and communicated back to the on field ref before the keeper has even put the ball down to take the kick as it only needs one replay.

Yeah exactly. VAR is only used for certain types of incident but the people in that room with all those screens will have surely seen within a matter of seconds that it should have been a corner and can then just have a quick word in the ref's ear and he changes the decision. Done. They should be constantly monitoring and searching for any incorrect decisions and change them, no matter whether it's a red card or just a throw in.
I think you'll find it sometimes really depends on the individual.
I don't know what's the key performance areas for the refs but there honestly be a review process of all their matches every month and if they make too many mistakes during the course of the month or over the season, they should be put under a performance review to evaluate whether they are fit for the job.
not a fan of var i think it still gets more wrong then it does right
before the city disallowed goal though ederson made a brilliant save from salah but the ref gave a goalkick instead of a corner. thats the kind of thing it should be looking at

Nah definitely things have improved but just needs different people running it.
Overall it’s made decisions more accurate for sure.
Also it’s virtually eradicated blatantly incorrect big calls. Before VAR, you had goals being given which were miles offside and obvious penalties missed by the ref. That doesn’t happen anymore. No more cases of mistaken identity for cards etc.
It’s better now but they just need to be a bit more consistent with interpretations.
Russia 2018 used it beautifully.
Hopefully Qatar 2022 will be the same.

Not really because people already complain it slows down the game too much.
Who cares about a corner or a goal kick.
Who cares about a corner or a goal kick.
...
even when the goalkick ultimately led to the build up for a goal (albeit was disallowed for another reason). youve gone from wrongly taking an attacking set piece away from one team and giving a goal scoring event to the other team. of course people should care ffs

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think that's why VAR gets abuse. A lot of people can live with refs getting one or 2 decisions wrong as long as its consistent. Thats why Pep was frustrated yesterday with the Haaland call although I do think the second incident on Allison is a foul. As for the The Fabinho tug which was a slight tug, once the Ref has made a call that was consistent with other hatchet jobs carried out by Silva, Fabinho, Thiago, Elliot, Milner, Akanji throughout the match there was no need to cancel it because its a goal.
I also found it strange why Liverpool fans were angry about the 2 decisions at the Emirates last week because those kind of things used to happen a lot without VAR. Home team gets benefit of doubt always. Those calls would 100% be made at Anfielf and the same set of fans would not complain.
I feel managers and fans just use VAR as an excuse to deflect from other issues in the match.
VAR was not the reason we lost yesterday, our game plan wasn't effective, some players were poor and Becker and Allisson made the best of a shocking KDB free kick. Thats it. Liverpool deserved to win.
Same thing at the Emirates, Liverpool didnt get the hand ball decision but equalized all the same but then conceded a stupid goal before half time. That had nothing tp do with VAR.
But you get fans who will say should have won 3-2 because one goal was correct and the other was not. Football doesnt quite work that way.

I think that’s where the problem is because our understanding of the game and what needs to be corrected is not the same.
A lot of fans don’t realise you can’t correct everything in the game hence why you have specific items VAR can revisit. The number of phases as to how far it can go back needs to be addressed because you find a lot of fans who like to find reasons to chalk of a goal when it suits them but then again if a player benefits from an offside call not being made and 20 uninterrupted passes later it results in a goal the. Surely that needs to be looked at.
The principle for VAR must be if a team has gained a clear unfair disadvantage.
Crying over goal kicks and corners takes the game into new territory unless these decisions are made fast enough. That’s why VAR misses quite a lot of things because so many things are being checked.

But how much of this sequence of play can be interpreted differently by anyone? There's the goal kick instead of corner, foul on Fab and ball kicked out of Allison's hands.
I know interpretation matters but not always. Would you say the ref allowing the two blatant fouls on Salah is a matter of interpretation? That's too far.
