Depressing language used here imo. Not constructive labelling people monsters and idiots.
And yes I will vote Labour next general election, unfortunate that I feel that has to be stipulated.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sensible debate has been tried and failed
If anyone is still voting Tory they are either part of a very select group of wealthy selfish cants with a dodgy interest or a moron.
No point debating in this case. If someone still plans to vote Tory even now there's no reasoning left.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Guess we can close the psychological inquiry into political voting then. Turns out Tories are all stupid or evil. Simple
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Go on then, what other explanation for people continuing to vote Tory is there?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well to continue this discussion we need to define stupidity and evil as well as their opposing concepts, as this would dictate to what extent individuals are capable of voting in/against self interest without being classified as stupid or evil. However I doubt this will be a productive conversation. I just hope we aren't on a terminal course towards the mutual hatred exhibited by the Democrats and Republicans across the pond, it only serves to polarise opinions further imo.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well put and in most cases I completely agree. Right now though the only people still voting Tory are already at the stage you fear. No point denying it because it's unpleasant, it's what's happened

Even if we presuppose that you are correct, my initial point was that it is unconstructive to pejoratively label people and push them further away from cooperative viewpoints. There are and will be enough tory voters in the country to represent a sizeable and powerful group, therefore I believe that we must be able to cooperate. If not then proportional representation, which I am hugely in favour of, could frequently serve to paralyse the political process.

It doesn’t matter who they have in charge, they will get slaughtered next election.
The worst thing about yesterday was reducing the energy term U turn to six months. I’m
A lot of people gonna be well and truly facked if that isn’t continued next April.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's the one good thing they've done. It might not be needed if gas prices continue to fall, and if is needed it will be more targeted instead of indiscriminately capping it for everyone, even for millionaires heating up their indoor swimming pools.
All of this doesn't matter by the way, because I'm sure there will be an election before April, and I'm sure Tories will be destroyed. All this because Boris ate some cake. Boris/Sunak was a bearable team and Tories are finding out the grass isn't greener. SDP for me next election
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is what really boils my p 155
Do you really think this is all because boris Johnson ate some cake.
Because I can tell you my family who lost three members as a direct result of his (now proven illegal) policies), would take a fa ck ing huge argument with you
Fa cking ridiculous comment and you are exactly the kind of fa cking voter I was talking about
They’re hinting that they may renege on the Triple Lock Pension promise
Plunging the elderly, their base support, into more hardship will be political suicide as well as completely immoral

If Hunt thinks he can just walz in and impose Austerity on the country again, then he must be as thick as Truss.
Not sure he has thought his brief through properly. Just cutting everything is just not going to wash with the public.
His honeymoon period will be at an end come 1st Novembet.

Well that's the thing one hand you think lockdown policies are illegal on the other hand people think he went nowhere near far enough.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It was the policy of allowing covid 19 patients into care homes that killed my grandparents and has since been shown to be illegal
But it’s all just boris Johnson eating cake to people like you
I think they've been in power for so long because the opposition was so sh!t and Labour needs to share some of this burden. Corbyn basically handed it on a plate to them at a time when people wanted change. I can't stand either of the main parties and don't understand why anyone votes for either.

I think we can pretty much all agree that the Tories are an absolute comedy show at the moment, although no one's really laughing. I'm also in no way, shape or form a fan of Jeremy Hunt, although he's certainly a gazillion times better than the disaster that was Kwasi.
BUT if anyone didn't expect a necessary period of austerity over the next year or two, they really haven't been paying attention. Every country that's had their energy supplies fecked by Putin's war, as we're trying to come out of the worst effects of Covid, will have some form of belt tightening to come down the road. The Government (i.e. the UK taxpayer, both corporate and personal) massively funded the Furlough scheme, and are now massively underwriting all of our energy bills ... both vitally important and essential support mechanisms, but the money to pay for that has to come from somewhere. Basic economics, although clearly above the understanding of the PM and her ex-Chancellor. A windfall tax would certainly help, and I'd be in favour of that, but cuts are going to have to be made as well. Stands to reason.
...and she's binned the Triple Lock despite it being one of her selection pledges.

People have voted labour, because they're labour, for decades - regardless of how good/bad the candidates, policies or performances are. Politics is as tribal as footy, probably more so. More likely to have reasonable banter and debate from opposing fans than you'll ever get from differing political views - this thread sort of illustrates it.
The problem is that the opposition is Labour, voting for them is actually WORSE…
