No release clause, but still on terms from a contract he signed a while ago.
They’re trying to get him to sign a new one now, so up to him.
It does feel very United though. A bit rushed because of form.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Form? He scored 35 goals in the Championship 2 years ago, 12 goals in the PL last season in a newly promoted team and has 8 goals already this season. That's 2.5 very good seasons.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, form.
Scoring goals in the Championship isn’t really something I would pay that much attention to, and he had an average season last year.
So I think the clamour to sign him is partially based on this season alone.
I like him, but I think it’s a bit of a rushed judgement from some.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
12 goals in the PL for a newly promoted team is pretty solid for me. And he has improved again this season. If you look at the lad, he has made a step up/improvement every season for the last 5 seasons. He is on an upward trajectory and there is no reason to suspect that is going to stop now.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Didn’t say there was.
I just said I think some are basing it on this season and it’s quite a United thing to do, to throw money at it - he would cost a huge sum and we need to be as sure as possible.
Otherwise we’ll end up with another dud we can’t shift.
Would love to see him play live.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I certainly wouldn't spunk a fortune on him if that is what it would take. But I would have him if the fee is reasonable.

Elvis, you’re the one behaving like a child.
I think you need to have a read back to see what you’re actually debating… you don’t appear to have a clue what I’ve said.
I don’t think there’s any evidence of the scouts having done a good job and your three names from however many years ago - unverified and not playing in the PL - are absolutely not evidence of having done a good job.
On one hand you say you’re not arguing they’ve done a good job and then on the other you’re claiming to have provided evidence of them going a good job.
Which is it?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No, I have provided evidence that one scout was doing a good job in identifying those players. As I said, trying to add some meat to the bones of the discussion. There is some evidence there that good players have been identified in the past and that recommendations have been ignored.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don’t think that’s evidence of that at all!
And even if it were - how long ago are we talking?
Is that relevant in a discussion about needing a striker in 2023?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I wasn't discussing potential striker target.
You said the above list of players (De Ligt, De Jong and Mbappe) was pretty far fetched and lacking credibility.
I provided evidence that our youth coach of 16 years identified 2 of those players to the board and was ignored.
You are a bit mental mate, honestly.
Stay classy, Elvis.
The discussion was about the current scouts NOW… so your evidence from many years ago is relevant how?
I said the list is far fetched because I’ve not seen any actual evidence apart from you saying someone said it… have you posted any actual evidence?
I said it’s lacking credibility because none of those players have come to the PL.
So they identified a player who had been seen by scouts from a number of top clubs and who chose to play in a different league? Whoopdeedoo.

The evidence shows a history of a scout/scouts being ignored by the club. Those 3 players have all gone for big fees to top clubs. They have developed into top players and we have tried to sign one of them just this summer done. We also tried to sign De Ligt when he left Ajax - a few seasons after Langley had identified him.
And I did clearly specify earlier in the thread that I wasn't sure about the scouts at the moment, but there was evidence from recent years. Guess you missed that part? No surprise there.
No idea why whether a player has or hasn't joined the PL matters at all.
You say evidence, but it’s just your word at the moment.
We don’t know when they were highlighted and what clubs were monitoring them at that point.
We don’t know the club ignored them and we don’t know if they’d have entertained a move to the PL.
So, sorry, but I still don’t see how this qualifies as evidence that our scouts have been doing a good job - which ultimately was the comment you were replying to.
Langley was sacked as head of youth player recruitment in July 2016 after 16 years scouting at Manchester United, because he wouldn’t “toe the line” with the United hierarchy.
Langley says United had scouted Matthijs de Ligt on numerous occasions but Ed Woodward and Co opted not to make a move on the centre-back, while his Ajax team-mate Frenkie de Jong was also on United’s radar.
“Players that they turned down? Matthijs de Ligt. We had God knows how many reports on Matthijs de Ligt,” Langley told the Manchester Evening News.
“Frenkie de Jong and all these players now are sort of around Europe. Dayot Upamecano, who is now at Red Bull Leipzig, was another.
“This was one of the reasons why I had a meeting with Ed Woodward and I told him that I wasn’t convinced with the competency of certain people at the club.
“I told Ed Woodward quite straight: ‘If you think I’m going to sit here and just tell you what you want to hear, I’m not that man because I’m going to tell you exactly how I see it.’
“I think it was possibly part of my downfall as to why seven months down the line I was removed because I wouldn’t tow the line in relation to telling them exactly what I thought.
“It’s one of them things in football – you come to accept it. Manchester United thanked me for the time I spent there and the players I’d taken in, but ultimately we could have been so much better if people had listened.”

So, in the context of a discussion about our scouts finding us a striker next year, this is evidence they’ve been doing a good job?
Come on… I know you have had a sizeable pop at me on here, but you can’t really believe that.
FORMER Manchester United scout Jorge Alvial has claimed he filed FORTY reports on Bayern Munich starlet Alphonso Davies - but the club failed to make a move.
The scout has revealed he urged United officials to launch a bid for the then-14-year-old during his time at Vancouver Whitecaps but his pleas were ignored.
Alvial, who worked under Jose Mourinho, instantly knew the now-Bayern Munich ace, 19, would be a star - and it would have cost United just £1.5million.
Despite feeling "even more strongly than about Christian Pulisic", the scout was ignored and Davies ultimately went to Bayern in a deal worth £18.8m.
He has now gone on to make 32 appearances for the Bundesliga giants this season and was Man of the Match in the 3-0 drubbing of Chelsea in the Champions League.
Alvial told the Manchester Evening News: "[Davies] was the first player I recommended to United when they hired me.
"The first time I saw him he was playing at the Dallas Cup tournament and he was a very good player.
"He was only 14 then, he went back to Vancouver and then when I was watching him on videos with my son, Javier.
"And I said: 'Wait a second. We remember that player, that is Alphonso.' And that is when I called.
"I had just got hired at that time and I called and said I wanted to go and see this player.
"So I went and right away, I am being honest, right away I recommended him.
"He is physical, intelligent... I felt as strongly about him, if not stronger than I did when I recommended Christian Pulisic to Chelsea, and I took him for a trial at 14-years-old."
What is it you think that scouts actually do? They don’t sign players. All they can do is give scouting reports and recommendations, if they aren’t being listened to it doesn’t mean they aren’t good at their job, it means the people above them aren’t good at their job. Our transfer policy doesn’t have anything to do with the competence of the scouts. And you ignored the important point about the players failing at the club because of management.
It’s simple point that bloodred and Elvis have understood, but in classic Winston fashion you’ve misrepresented the argument, acted like a diiiickhead and then tried to play the victim when people tell you to fack off. It’s facking tedious, and the reason nobody else has bothered commenting on this article now because you’ve turned it into the Winston show again.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
As I have said already, I wasn't talking about signing a striker. I think you need to go back a re-read the thread.

He does it all the time. I have highlighted it to him many times, as have many other posters. I don't understand whether he gets some weird kick from playing this game, or it is genuine. Either way, totally pintless even trying to discuss it with him. Another good thread ruined by Winston.

Elvis, take a little read back at my contribution and yours.
You are the one that caused the problem here, even after some time out and after I’d replied to you in a civil fashion.
You’re frustrated because you have set your position out and now you can’t back it up.
But sure, blame me and have a good cry. Much easier.

It’s genuine I think, Elvis. I suspect he’s got some sort of personality disorder.
Follow your around? I try to avoid engaging with you because I know how it’s going to go.

What is with people on this forum and comments about mental health, disorders etc?
It’s really out of order, not to mention facking stupid on an anonymous forum.

The only reason this has gone this way is because the pair of you jumped in to have a go at me when the exchange I had, had nothing to do with you.
Read back… it’s very clear.

I've backed it up. You said that the list of players was far fetched and lacking credibility. I have added credibility by showing that our youth scout at the time identified and recommended 2 of the very players on that list, but was ignored. You are just too proud to back down. It's ok, we've all come to expect it.

You haven’t backed it up.
You’ve named four players from over 6 years ago that we have no idea what the club did or if the players had any interest in coming to the PL.
What the fack has that got to do with me asking whether there’s any evidence of the scouts doing a good job, clearly in the context of the here and now - not 6/7 years ago?
You made a mistake and now you can’t admit it.

It went this way because, as per, you started being a d!ck in what was a reasonable discussion. You started insulting people's intelligence, did your usual trick of confusing what people were actually discussing, then played the victim card. It is your MO. And if you genuinely aren't aware that you do that time after time after time, then you probably need to seek some help.
