Thought this was going to be some ludicrous idea from the Tories.

Over the course of a season you do. Especially when you consider the short turnaround between the seasons. I don’t think many teams have looked like they are physically in top shape this season compared to the start of previous, normal seasons.

Plenty of teams will plan their workloads around how they can peak in certain parts of the season, particularly the second half of the season - something Conte’s done for years.

And you only have to look at how Spurs have responded in the second half of games to see the ‘mental energy’ isn’t being used up.

Yeah as ‘The King’ said, it’s about sustaining that energy throughout the season. There’s been lots of quotes about it recently and I think it’s been more evident in us than most other teams that we are trying to ‘energy save’.

A large part of that May be because Conte isn’t the best with rotation and we’ve not been able to rest anyone in the CL. I also think Conte believes his style doesn’t work with games every 3/4 days which may be a big clue as to why he is so bad in Europe.

It’s an interesting strategy, especially in such a peculiar season. Managers often talk about seasons on a game by game basis, but the ones that are successful in league campaigns always look beyond that.

We usually started to peak in the second half of the season as it’s the most important time to. Even City, with their ridiculous consistency, tend to start the season slower and peak around Xmas time until the end.

Yeah I know Poch's periodisation would always aim to peak in December when there was the biggest run of games (and time most rivals would drop points)

Not sure how we’ll cope with the schedule as Ten Hag’s never managed in a league with so many games.

We’ve not been playing flat out, but we looked leggy towards the end of the West Ham game.

Think we’ll need to throw the domestic cups so we can cope with the league and deep run in the Europa. Remains to be seen how good his squad management will be given our lack of depth as well.

Spurs aren’t covering a lot of ground when they are defending, though. I’m not sure what the statistics are, but I’d imagine you are covering fewer miles than most teams in the league this season. That wasn’t the case last season under Conte, I think you were top over the season once he joined.

We’ve covered the most ground in the league by quite a distance

It popped up on TV on one of our games recently, I'll try to find it.

It’s difficult to find these stats. I vaguely remember Sky showing some stats that Spurs’ distance covered was way down compared to last season.
