Luckily, England as always have a garbage group (among the big international sides, England tend to have the easiest draws time and again), so they'll qualify for the knockouts no matter what.

It’s because we’re a highly seeded team

When u crush qualification you earn an easy group.

Firstly, Mount is a fair more complete player than Foden.

Secondly, Mount has been the best player over the two games so far.

Thirdly, those that think otherwise can be selected from the usual cliques of ignorami, 'fanboys' and/or general haters (and should be viewed as such).

Finally, in an irrelevant festival of uncompetitive, technically deficient (in a teamwork sense), bland football - which has more to do with marketing than sport - it's kind of funny to see the perceptual levels of the numpties is no different to what it is when watching proper football.

Have fun, and chill out.

How have we not mentioned Stirling yet? Did he even touch the ball in the first half?

He’s been in decline for a while as players who started as young him often do in their late 20’s. City knew what they were doing.

All the top teams have an easy group. Something to do with seeding.

I really don’t get why for the last ten minutes at least, he didn’t try putting both Foden and Wilson on. USA weren’t doing much by that point, there was very little risk and given he seemed happy with the loint, why not give them some minutes.

Was thinking during the game, I think a front four of Grealish, Foden, Rashford and Wilson would have actually been a better fit (and a better watch) for that game.

England statistically have the hardest group - every side is in the top 20 in the world.

Argentina got the really easy group - despite losing to the Saudis I bet they still win the group

dont think thats true imo - Look at Brazils group - Serbia / Switzerland and Cameroon.

Looking at that the england group should be a cakewalk with Iran/Wales and USA.

….

That group should be just as easy for Brazil as Englands is.

Englands group is statistically the toughest, every side is top 20 in the world.

Argentina lost their opening game to Saudi Arabia yet are still favourites to win the group at 11/8 - that’s how easy that group is.

France are in a group where Denmark could give them a game otherwise they have 2 walkovers and can’t finish lower than second.

USA is finally starting to play decent (not good) football, as the youth system is growing exponentially each generation. I was surprised that they didn't lump and dump to tree-hockey artists. Southgate screewed the pooch by not unleashing a red-hot Foden - he is anti-football. Maguire looked like a bit of a player, though - good news for us. Next England manager needs to take bigger risks to reap some bigger rewards.us.

Saka was the worst English player on the pitch but yeah let’s single out Mount
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Saka was easily better than Mount

The best play of the game for Eng was Saka’s delightful cut back for Kane.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sara was very poor-complete opposite of the game against Iran where he was very good. Mount was terrible.

Southgate has had a very good win and a drab draw.
He probably wasn't totally responsible for either.
The players have a big say, and the opposition.

Saka was terrible last night, Kane was probably our best attacking player.

The reason Kane had to drop so deep was because the other England players couldn’t get the ball to him. The one time they did his shot was on target but blocked because Saka delayed the pass.

Saka needs to go and watch Vinicius, that kid can do it all, that’s how to play the position

There were lots of poor performances last night and Mount was seriously lacking in creativity and Sterling may as well have not been on the pitch but they were not alone. Foden has to play ahead of Mount against Wales but Southgate uses such negative tactics it will hardly get the best out of him.
I'm not suggesting that any poster on here knows more about football than Southgate but I really don't understand why, having beaten the press from the US front 3, the ball is then passed back to the CB's so they have to beat the press a second time. I lost count of the number of backward passes from Trippier and Shaw to the CB's who would then pass it amongst themselves waiting for someone ahead of them to come free. That must be a tactic that Southgate wants to use but it doesn't make sense to me.

I know Mount isn’t a bad footballer, and I don’t watch Chelsea every week, but I literally cannot remember anything he has ever done in a game where I have watched him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Didn’t watch the cl final? Listen mounts a very good player but he’s been out of form for a while now. A year even.

I thought he was good against Iran but yeah done nothing lastnight.

Wonder what the odds would be on a 4-0 wales victory? Astronomical I’d imagine, anyone brave/stupid enough?

England are perfectly poised to qualify in first or second, depending on how France's next game goes... There is a pattern here with how Southgate approaches group qualification, and I do wonder whether the draw yesterday was deliberate on England's part. Our players looked very exercised whenever the US looked dangerous, but offensively they didn't look that bothered when we failed to take our chances.

If we can once again finish our group second, and France win their group, we won't face any of France/Argentina/Spain/Brazil/Portgual/Belgium until the semi finals.

For whatever reason, Iran folded defensively under pressure from England and England looked a decent side. Give them space to operate in and the likes of Mount and Saka look ok. Put them under pressure and they don't. Bellingham was able to play box to box in the first game and it gave England options, last night he could not and it exposed the limitations of Mount, Sterling and Saka.

Assuming that Wales remain unable to string passes together England do not need 2 DM's as it stifles the attack. Yes Foden is streets ahead of Mount but 1 attack minded midfielder and wingers not making much impression won't bring much success.

But yes, second may actually be better!

Safegate isn't going to change. His defensive habits will always kick in when playing against better opposition. Will cost us eventually in the tournament.

Kane was invisible but all we ever hear is he didn't get the service. He should have been pulled on the hour mark.

Should have pulled the entire front 3 as well as Mount. Pretty dire performance all round really. Bringing Henderson on sums up Southgate . Team in search of a goal so he pulls a midfielder who can attack and replaces him with one whose instinct is to defend. Henderson did not play badly and had he replaced Rice who was pretty invisible it would have made more sense, replacing Bellingham had 'settle for a draw' written all over it.
