In all seriousness though, his versatility could be an asset. Looks like he can play from the sides or any central role, and with Fred & presumably Beekers seeming like they’ll be gone next summer, and the jury still out on Sancho, someone who can come in and cover two or three positions (including CF) could be just the ticket.
Still need a specialist CF though, Kudus or no Kudus.
----------------------------------------------
I know Ten Hag is adaptable when it comes to CFs but he's generally favoured bigger more physical players who can provide a target in the box which is probably part of the reason why we're linked with Gakpo.
Depending on new owners we could potentially go out in the summer and blow a diiiick load on Kane, Hakimi, De Jong, a keeper and a cb and then you are looking at a team that should be competing with everyone.
It’s worth considering that we haven’t got a facking clue what will happen under new ownership, to be fair.
We could conceivably end up in a position where £300m can be spent on the team, in which case Harry Kane has to be someone we look to sign and still be able to address many other areas.
---------------------------------------------
True.
If that were the case I'd wonder if Osimhen would be the player we'd go for money no object.
If money is no object it’s got to be Kane.

Probably but Levy would bend us over price wise and I also think the manager might have someone else in mind, no idea who tombe fair though?
Yeah but that wouldn’t matter if money is no object.
Until we know the ownership situation we can’t really know how our recruitment will pan out. But we could potentially end up in a situation where we can sign pretty much any player in football.
You would think but I'm not sure he would be what Ten Hag would want if he had his choice of anybody.
Why not? He’s one of the very best strikers in football. We can’t really base his preferences based on what he did at Ajax because they don’t have the same capabilities in the transfer market.

Oh yes of course if cash wasn't the issue I agree but it would still stick in my throat if they ripped us a new one price wise, especially Levy, if cash isn't a problem it opens up the options somewhat, my youngest boy and I chatted the other night about a CF and we couldnt agree on who it would/should be?
Maybe why neither of us work in the football field
And btw I think Kane would score goals wherever he was, I haven't liked him dropping so deep for Spurs but that might be what he's been told to do?
Might just be me but there doesn't seem to be a whack of genuine CFs about atm, still, we defo need one and I hope ETH has that as a priority
The answer to that question had been Harry Kane since 2016. Obviously it’s not been realistic but it may well be in the summer depending on how the season ends and who buys the club.
Why not? He’s one of the very best strikers in football. We can’t really base his preferences based on what he did at Ajax because they don’t have the same capabilities in the transfer market.
---------------------------------------------
I'm just guessing. That's true but his preferences remained pretty similar when he jumped from Utrecht to Ajax so they may be the same jumping from Ajax to United.
Did they? I don’t think Haller and Tadic as cf’s are similar. Incidentally, Kane can perform the role as a striker as both players.
I don't think Tadic was signed with a view to playing him as a CF though given Dolberg played more as a striker the season he was brought in but he had some problems with injury I think then was sold for a big fee the following summer. They also had Huntelaar at the time too.
Then I think he just made do with Tadic as using him up front obviously proved very successful for them in Europe until he signed Haller again.
I was basing it more on who and how he used the players. But either way a manager is dictated by the recruitment policy of a club. When you work for a club that has financial restrictions it narrows the profile of player they can sign. Though your are similarly narrowed by working at a club that wants to win, where quality is usually more important than profile, as Pep has shown with City.
Rumours going around we've got to offer Kane an insane deal to extend him. Probably fair to say if we don't win anything this season a big money sale could be done. Levy won't want to lose him for nothing.

Yeah we probably won't offer him an insane deal. What do you think? I think you think that we won't win anythink or give him a big payrise.
The ship has sailed on Kane imo. Brilliant player but he'll be 30 by the start of next season. We need to build for the future.

This exactly and entirely.
Surely United cant still be that daft enough anymore to spunk another £100m up the wall with a 5 year contract on 400K a week for a player like Kane. The fact that he himself might even consider United these days tells me that hes looking for a payday now.
United need a long term plan and future under ETH.
But again, it depends on the ownership. If money is no object and winning is important then signing Kane becomes an obvious target.
Ownership priorities does come into it. I personally would rather see United's new owners build sensibly rather than spend zillions to transform the team overnight. Partly because the latter would imply the kind of money-no-object ownership that we associate with petrodollar authoritarian regimes and/or capricious oligarchs. Partly because that wouldn't feel like earned success: I want us to claw our way back to the top through hard work, ETH's coaching gradually making us play better and better, through the recruitment operation being forced to up their game to deliver incredible ROI. That's not so much a principled stand. It's about the emotional pay-off. I remember feeling ambivalent about Van Persie as a United player, not because he was anything other than great, but because plucking him from Arsenal felt like deploying a cheat code. The satisfaction is far greater if we discover our own gems, coach the players we have grown and the players we have bought with the proceeds of our work, and everyone does their jobs well with the result that we get better and better on the pitch.
For those reasons, I hope we don't buy Harry Kane.
I get the impression the manager doesn’t even want to do that, to be honest. Which is unsurprising, he’ll know full well how precarious his job is if the club aren’t winning. And if the new ownership allows the club to exploit the vast wealth it has (it can’t be denied that the debt and interest the club has is taking large amounts of money out of the club).
I get the sentiment, RR. I’m not really taking a position on what I think the club should do, rather what it might do. Until we know the ownership situation we can only speculate. But we actually can’t plan properly as a club for the summer either. Chelsea are a good example of that, the change in ownership ballsed up their plans because the new owners didn’t have the same plans that Abramovich would have for the club.
