Just watching Cameroon - Chupo-moting gets a bad rap but is actually half-decent.

Ownership priorities does come into it. I personally would rather see United's new owners build sensibly rather than spend zillions to transform the team overnight. Partly because the latter would imply the kind of money-no-object ownership that we associate with petrodollar authoritarian regimes and/or capricious oligarchs. Partly because that wouldn't feel like earned success: I want us to claw our way back to the top through hard work, ETH's coaching gradually making us play better and better, through the recruitment operation being forced to up their game to deliver incredible ROI. That's not so much a principled stand. It's about the emotional pay-off. I remember feeling ambivalent about Van Persie as a United player, not because he was anything other than great, but because plucking him from Arsenal felt like deploying a cheat code. The satisfaction is far greater if we discover our own gems, coach the players we have grown and the players we have bought with the proceeds of our work, and everyone does their jobs well with the result that we get better and better on the pitch.
For those reasons, I hope we don't buy Harry Kane.

I agree. This way of United operating os often called the 'United Way'. The 'emotional pay off' has always been most satisfying aspect for many Old Skool United supporters, like me anyway, (local matchgoing, patient for success, of an age to have seen as much thick as thin who feel we have 'a stake' in the club (and Im sure its the same with most other clubs up and down the country). Being a spoilt kid in a toffee shop kinda fan has never appealed to me although I can see how it works for other and probably mainly known nothing but Fergie, aged fans. And there is nothing wrong with that if it works. We all want to see us win stuff

He wouldn't have played CL games with PSG and Bayern if he wasn't. I think the disrespect comes from the fact that he once played for a very 'functional' Stoke side. Even then, my main Stoke memory of Choupo-Moting was him scoring a brace against us, being very hard to play against, and being awarded Man of the Match.

He’s 33 and in the best form of what’s been a pretty average career. Good luck to him but he shouldn’t even be a consideration for us.

Not sure anyone was seriously suggesting we buy him. That said, if we were talking about a short-term option because a long-term one isn't available in January (ignoring the question of whether Choupo-Moting is actually available or cheap) I don't see it as absurd. He's not in the best form of his career. He has been a very creditable Plan B striker for two of the best teams in Europe for the last four years. Scoring in the later stages of the CL. I'm not sure United fans are in a position to look down on him.

Well, he should if we're looking at a 6 month short-term deal, which we most likely will be in Jan. We're not exactly likely to be spoilt for choice
Bayern are going to extend his contract I think.
Goal for my main man Mohammed Kudus. He’s not playing up front today but a real poachers finish with the flicked header.
Im sure ETH has already identified the long-term CF that he requires and has notified the recruitment team already. (I dont think hes watching the WC games on TV and during every game changes his mind to the guy who just scored a goal for the underdog every day. United should pull out all the stops to deiver that player as soon as possible. Otherwise it will require a short term stopgap loan or signing Ighalo style until they get their man. Whatever happens in January, doing nothing will certainly mean no CL next season.

Agreed but why would Bayern let their top scorer this season go on a 6 month deal?

Have to say that I watched Jonathan David again yesterday with keen interest and once again I thought he was really, really poor. He’s obviously been making waves with Lille but he’s looked a million miles off the pace in his two WC games. I think it’s only fair on the basis of two WC matches to write him off completely.
