Rashford's pace

He's a good player and I'm glad he's playing well and producing again. I still doubt he will ever be elite though.

Let's be fair, while the goal last night was a fantastic finish, it was shocking defending to allow him go that far.

I feel that before his back injury that he was on his way to being an excellent player. Probably not world class, but very good. He has suffered a lot of injuries during an important period in his development, so he might not ever reach his full potential now. I am just happy that ETH has helped to get him back in a positive frame of mind, enjoying his football and that he finally appears to be be injury free and fully fit.

Yes, great to see. Looks like he will comfortably break 20 goals this season if he stays fit.

He does need to produce a bit more in the league though. 5 of his 9 goals this season have come in the Carabao and Europa.

Where the fck was Sancho last night? I know he spent the whole WC away from our squad with his own training plan in Holland, but I assumed he'd be back once we started playing again.

Rashford hitting form and being fully injury free and confident/in the right frame of mind is a great thing for us.

There must be serious issues there and hopefully he gets the help he needs.

Yeah hopefully.

I think ETH will be really good for us, players already seem to be buying into his ideas and enjoying themselves. Of course we're still going to be inconsistent while adjusting and lacking players fully capable of doing what he wants, but it does finally feel like we're on the right tracks.

I think he does see genuine potential in Sancho for our first team, and hopefully has recognised what he needs to start delivering on it.

ETH was asked about Sancho in his post match interview, the interviewer asked if the was any news on his return and she was met with a definite “No”

by the sounds of it sancho's issues are mental rather than physical.

Rashford is a prime example, he has said himself his head hasnt been right over the last couple of seasons, but now it is you can see a huge improvement in his game.

At the end of the day its just football... hopefully sancho, if he is suffering mentally is given as much time as he needs to get better.

As for Rashford, good to see him enjoying his football again but he still does have a tendency to try and beat too many people too often when a simple lay off would suffice

Still undergoing his "disciplinary" process. There is clearly something awry.

Haven't seen or heard it called a disciplinary process anywhere?

Yes, even with the goal last night he should have passed to Garnacho. I know it worked out last night but 9 times out of 10 or more a defender cuts that out.

Was really nice to not have to hear about or keep seeing images of Ronaldo last night too.

Who?

I just love Rashers... He gets OT up off their seats, which can be quite rare, these days.

As you mention, a chunk of his development was taken up with that back injury, which was a pretty serious injury. He has also had to cope with ever changing managers, switching wings and terrible form from the team (himself included, of course).

I still feel he has a gear or two to go up before we see his true peak. Though if this is as good as he ever gets, but adds just a touch more consistency, we'll still have a great player.

I thought it was ridiculous that Sky had a headline on their website that ETH didn't mention Ronaldo in his program notes.

Why should he?

posted on 22/12/22

I really hope that ETH and his staff can assist with the mentality of our players. Practically every successful player has had a good, determined, dedicated, winning mentality. Far too many of our players in the last ten years either didn’t have it or lost it soon after joining us.

Sancho has bucket loads of talent, what we’ve seen of him is a mere shadow of his potential.

I know, it's bizarre. Like ETH and United owe him gratitude when he walked out on us repeatedly and slagged the manager off. Crazy

So in Jan 2020, the man suffers a double stress fracture in his back which should keep him out for three months. He isn’t happy with that, so he has a special girdle made to support his back so he can return to training as quickly as possible.

Then throughout the 2020/21 season, he plays with a torn muscle in his shoulder which needs operating on. He puts off the operation because he wants to keep playing, but only manages to get on the pitch by being pumped full of painkilling injections before every game. He can’t do gym work, and he can’t perform all the exercises the other players are undertaking in training.

How the fack can you sprint at an elite sports level with torn shoulder musculature and when you can’t training properly?

He finishes the same season with pulled ligaments in his foot. But plays through that too..

Despite these (serious) issues, through 2019/20 and 2020/21, he manages to make 93 appearances, scoring 42 goals.

Whilst United fans should be lauding his extreme commitment and, given the circumstances, remarkable contribution during this period, what do we get?

“I knew Gashford would never become never become an elite player.”

“He’s lazy. He doesn’t even give a shiiiit.”

“Can’t even be bothered sprinting for the ball anymore.”

I facking hate United fans, I really do. Horrible bunch of ingrates.

No problem with the club expressing gratitude for his first spell and even last season but under ETH he was probably our worst player in terms of performance and behaviour. ETH owes him nothing.

Any club thank you should include "thanks for trying to force a move in 2008 and succeeding in doing so in 2009, spending your best years at Real Madrid. Thanks also for trying to force a move during the summer and then repeatedly walking out on your teammates and manager during the preseason and the season proper. Finally, thanks for giving an interview trashing anyone and everyone assiciated with the club, past or present in a final effort to force a release. A release you have now been granted. Thank you."

Agreed

Also, really shiyte form from our clubs medical and coaching staff though, Solskjaer included playing him in about 60 games a year under him through all of that.

Everyone was willing to risk the career and future of a young academy graduate for the short term benefit of their immediate/present situation.

I know you cant force a player to have an operation, but it doesn't sit right with me somehow.

If he is good enough to win stuff for United is a different arguement...so might be a few more.... but hes the best we have got in that position and our main goalscorer and we therefore would be actually mad to let him go at the moment.
