I like the way Newcastle are buying.

Incrementally adding to their squad, no massive spurge overhaul. Quietly doing their homework and snapping up good players that Howe is making into a very good team.

You do get the feeling if they get Champions League football they might change that and go and 2/3 big names in.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Are Spurs not doing the same - Bentancur, Kulu, Romero, Richarlison, Perisic, Bissouma. Stop gap signing in Lenglet & Forster, ones for the future in Sarr, Udogie, Spence & Gil.

We need to buy some more no doubt, but really the only truly poor signing since Paratici has come in has been Emerson, and he has pictures of Conte with his wig off so is now undroppable.

We continue this with players like Porro, Bastoni and a couple others then we'll be in as strong a position as anyone chasing City.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Nah only Newcastle are buying players according to some of our supporters.

You could argue it yeah.

I do think Spurs will need to spend a lot over the next few seasons to keep pace with the top clubs in the race for CL football.

I don't rate Spurs defence, nor central midfield and the attackers have peaked.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Even as bad as Spurs defence is perceived, it still has three players including the goalie that were in the top three teams ar the last world cup. So what does that make of other defences?

Perceived? You have said regularly how bad it is. It’s not perceived mate, our defence is dog sh**. Average dross like Sessegnon, Royal, Davies, Sanchez and Dier playing regularly is a reason it’s dross.

I'm glad they won last night as getting to the semi gives them at least 2 extra games to play.

With no European footie and out of the FA Cup they would have had a clear run at the top 4 if they'd lost.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't think they have a cat in hell's chance of top four, even if they only have Prem matches.

Eddie Howe was the shrewdest investment they made. They've not really bought anyone we couldn't buy. At the moment they're in the same bracket as us but what he's done to existing players like Almiron and in particular, Joelinton is just staggering. To shift him to midfield was a stroke of genius. Pound for pound they're still punching above their weight but if they get in the CL, forget it. They'll stay there because it will instantly open up their spending power with absolutely no regard for profit whatsoever.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Shrewdest investment Newcastle have made is getting Dan Ashworth from Brighton.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Good point. Saw him interviewed on Sky Sports the other night. He might have been the key behind Brighton's success.

Spurs defence is bad Don, especially at CB, but they still have three world cup defenders that reached the last three of that competition. So other teams have bad defenders as well.

Don quit worrying about Newcastle. FFS they have Chris Wood up front.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

And also someone called Alexander Isaak.

Make no mistake Wood is a stop gap.

Can see them going big up front again in the summer.

Sven Botman would have been brilliant for us. Did not cost the earth. Messed up again there.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Dan Burn too. Brilliant signing. Miles better than all our CB’s bar Romero
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Dan Burnhave a lie down Don

Lets just get who Conte wants. If we got Burn in he'd get the "club signing" Spence treatment from the manager.

Honestly, you're wetting the bed again Don, this time about NUFC who we have outspent !!
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Not sure why you’re laughing mate. He’s better than Sanchez and Dier who play regularly in our defence. Can play CB or LB. There’s a reason why Newcastle have one of the best defences. Dan Burn is better than anything we have at CB bar Romero
----------------------------------------------------------------------

If you say so Pampers! I just know that if we signed him in the summer for £13m you'd be attacking Levy for being cheap and we'd all be questioning the wisdom of such a buy. You're a fecking genius in hindsight, well done!

I think their squad looks a bit light but if they get lucky with injuries or make a couple of astute signings this window then it's not out of the question.

Spurs have poor defenders and aren't a cohesive unit which makes it look even worse. Romero is good, Perisic decent but aging but the rest of them are all bang average no matter how well they done at a World Cup. Lloris is finished imo so you need a keeper too.

The midfield imo is very one dimensional, grafters with only really Bentancur who offers another dimension. Bissouma hasn't really done a thing yet either.

Skipp showed some promise but the last few times i've seen him i've been far from impressed and Hojberg steady and workmanlike but doesnt possess lots of quality. It's screaming out for a creative player box to box player and those are at a premium.

All that said you have quality in the front 3 with Kane, Son, Kulusevski, Richarlison all being very good players. Kane either signs a new deal before this summer or you're forced to sell him though. Might end up with Lukaku in that scenario though

Might even make sense on a grander scale given the money needed to refresh the Keeper, defence and midfield.

Keep Conte and Spurs will improve though, i'm pretty certain of that.

Two points outside the top four and have probably already had their sticky patch.

Would not rule them out, they do it time and time again. Liverpool finding form would be the main worry but they show no signs of it.

This. Lloris can 100 world cups, he’s utter gash now. Constantly makes mistakes and poor distribution. Add to that our incredibly poor Centre backs, it’s a recipe for disaster. Massive work needed at the back. Attack wise, I don’t think many teams are better, but our defence is dog sh**
