The Gil signing has failed as usual due to our managerial merry go round and scrambled thinking.

He was signed under Nuno, and to be honest I'm not sure what the plan was under Nuno.

Clearly not a Conte player, so another waste of money as we'll not get anywhere near our money back.

To be fair, any caaant trying to pretend a 2.6m administration fee makes sense for a footballer needs a slap

Good little player Gil. I hope he can return an improved player able to thrive in the PL because I quite like him. May be not suited to Conte's football, but he pre-dates Conte.

No offence mate but you talk about £2.6m admin fee like its nothing. I negotiate deals as part of my job, mainly land deals. Nothing quite in the £40m bracket but if you negotiate a deal with the other party and they come back at the 11th hour and demand an "admin fee" equivalent to more than 5% of the deals worth then that is just ridiculous.

NO ONE involved in any serious negotiation will bend over and say "Oh another £2.6m, on top of the terms we've just agreed on, yeah sure, here you go" and fans who expect this club (or any club) to just suck it up really have no grasp of reality. The Lisbon owner playing hardball, but that's our fault, right?

Imagine buying a house, say £250,000, and its all agreed and then the seller says, oh, i want you to pay my legal bill, it's £1500. I know what my response would be!

This is so dumb. Either sell him abroad or loan him to a prem team. We know what he can do in spain ffs.

Also its weird as he finally got some game time recently and did well. Broken management at our club

I get the impression that the club has already made its mind up to sell Gil. So if he is going to be put in the shop window, better to do it in the Spanish league.

Fair point but then Sporting's stance on this, I think, is just retaliation for Levy's exhausting incremental increases in offer over the last month. If we'd offered what we're now offering at the start of the month, they'd have not only accepted it with good grace, we'd also be within the window of the release clause, which expired some 12 days ago.

You can defend Levy all you want but this behaviour from the Sporting hierarchy is nothing more than a 'taste of your own medicine' lesson. I don't blame them for one minute. As if Levy wouldn't do the same thing. He's burned so many bridges around the negotiating table that the whole football world feckin hates the guy. That's well documented. He's finally come up against someone that doesn't want to take his bullshiiiiit.

Tyical nice work by us.

Makings of a cracking player Gill. Just needed game time to improve. But sadly our Conte does not like him. I don't understand why managers cannot work with the players thay have especially when said players have only recently arrived.

Yeah I get he did not sign him but all this BS about he's not his type of player. A top manager should be able to work with any player regardless.

Also looks like we are signing no body..... will Conte walk after the deadline day has passed... can;'t blame him if he does

The thing is that you don't really know how much of this is spin, which is very common when negotiations are the subject of intense media coverage and fan interest.

Sporting might have refused to budge from a certain price and Spurs tried to push through via different structures and asking for counter-proposals as to how Sporting would accept the funds. Then Sporting come up with something like this, and Levy turns to the crowd clasping his head and saying "Would you believe it!?"

The UK media will always be fed the PL club's side of the story; it would be interesting to know what Sporting have told the Portuguese media.

Any chance we could get our recruitment sorted ? It's a shambles !

Lenglet.... Poor
Bissouma.... Shadow of the player at Brighton
Perisic... Old & pretty ineffective
Spence... Waste of time & money
Gill.... The new Lamela, now heading off to Spain again
Richie.... Excellent shlthousery but not much else
N'Dombele.. Costing us a fortune, Bad fit for the PL
GLC....... See above
Royal.... Tragic
Sanchez... Tragic
PEH..,Carthorse
Reggie.... Not really missed
Doc... Had a handful of good games in 2 years
Sess.... Pathetic excuse for a footballer
Sarr..... Young, Raw... who knows ?

Our "Hits" (Bents, Kulu & Romero) Vs our "Misses" (All of the above) is truly embarrassing.

We've now signed a winger who looks OK but probably only went for him because Everton's interest alerted us to the fact he's cheap/ low risk.... Not sure he makes us better

This is the mad world of football, not a land deal.
You sound like a Tory justifying austerity by saying the country's credit card is maxed out, like running the economy is like running a household budget.

Funny you should mention Everton because it wasn't that long ago that we were both challenging for the same league positions yet they've sinced proved that poor recruitment can absolutely get you relegated, no matter how bigger club you think you are.

If we keep this awful recruitment going and say Kane leaves, it's not beyond the realms of possibility that we end up where they are. It's unlikely but not impossible.

Best advice to everyone on here is to completely ignore him. It's something I need to do as I know I take the bait far too often. If he's got no one left to argue with, he might stop, although I genuinely think there's a real danger he could fall out with himself, given how argumentative he is.

The funny thing is, this is a discussion forum where opinions are going to differ but he's actually not interested in debate. He's only ever in it to put his point across and then shut down anyone else that doesn't agree with him.

He's basically Piers Morgan and no one likes him either.

👍 Spot on Devonshire!

Sporting are just trying to rinse more money out of us at the 11th hour.
However some of our supporters are a bit like sheep, someone posts some negative stuff and they all jump on the bandwagon despite not knowing the facts.

Paratici is still overseeing our transfers, it’s just he can’t handle anything back in Italy. Last time I looked Lisbon was in Portugal and not Italy.
