Don’t forget you robbed a point off West Ham from the game at the Bridge this season as well

I agreed. Let’s not pointing finger at each other. I’m sure all clubs got some benefit from VAR. However, I’m just fed up with half hearted celebration knowing it will be checked a few seconds later. Just get rid of it

Think VAR will be good for the game in the end, but maybe we have to wait until a new generation of officials come through.
The ever changing stance on how they use it helps no-one. We seem to go from over reliance on VAR to pretty much sidelining it, never finding the right balance.
I get the impression refs are currently not making decisions thinking VAR will correct them, while the VAR is going very much with on field calls, meaning no decision is made.
The rules themselves, especially handball and offside, have been moulded to try and fit the advantages of having VAR but have only confused things more.

Brentfords goal had two offsides. Lee Mason decided Pinnock had not interfered with Gabriel. You can put that in the "opinion" category. However, the second one was just offside plain and simple. According to PGMOL representative, Mason forgot to check that because he spent so long debating if Pinnock was interfering.

For a VAR to put the lines on the wrong defender, as with the Brighton offside, seems very unfortunate.

The new system they used in the WC would take away that human error.

The Chelsea one falls into the rules ain't great category. It looked very intentional to me (and Souceks reaction only add to that) yet because he was falling he gets away with it? I'm sure if the onfield ref had given it then VAR would have stuck, so again it could be an example of the ref thinking VAR will make the call for him.

Think things like the Fernandes goal, the Salah goal, various handballs show the rules are very much up to interpretation and it is pot luck on the day. Not really what VAR is here for - and it means refs continue to be very influential in deciding games.

Nonsense.

We also got robbed by your shower

I've literally seen the lines being moved on TV to make sure a player is offside.

These are the articles we used to see every matchday before there was VAR.

People complaining about the plethora of poor decisions and demanding that something be done about it.

So they brought in VAR and either wittingly or unwittingly completely facked up it's implementation.

For me, I have a good memory and I'd rather keep VAR than go back to what we had before.

It seems to me, that the referees are over relying on VAR,to the detriment of their own performance, like sort of passing the buck ! and the guys looking after the VAR have got to improve their performances as well !

Gary is right ,it is sucking the life out of the game.

Local councils make decisions 'By Committee' so no single individual can be held accountable if something goes t!tts up.

That's exactly the way VAR is going.

I was shocked and left speechless how that was NOT given to Chelsea as a pen. Soucek had a mare and he chose to stop a goal bound shot with his hand and the entire VAR crew missed a simple check?
No excuse for missing this incident and not giving a pen to Chelsea.

You was robbed me thinks.

Some people think that ensuring ‘fairness’ is the number one priority, no matter how crap VAR is making the game.

Some people don’t.

I’m firmly in the latter camp. It fixes very few decisions that have a tangible effect on the game and yet the negatives it brings are massive.

It’s here to stay, though.

The only lines shown are those being live fine adjusted by the VAR officials. Would you rather only see the final image?

But it's getting to the stage where these VAR officials cannot be trusted for even the most obvious decisions, and this is after the referee has chosen to pass the buck ! Their must be more accountability.

Not a single person could make a compelling argument that football would be worse without VAR. Get rid of it tomorrow and I promise the game would go back to being fun again when a goal is scored rather than that thought at the back of your head ‘this could still be cancelled’.

Decisions were often absolutely awful before VAR. They're still often poor now but not as consistently bad.

The refs do a very difficult job and in some ways are very decent but they're getting too many obvious decisions wrong (with the luxury of multiple replays) at the moment.

It was only good if you were a United fan constantly benefiting from dodgy refereeing ffs

It's not but the standard of match officials using it and the overcomplication of rules like the handball rule for one example.

It's not var*

posted on 12/2/23

I can only think, that our authorities with their ignorance and arrogance ,are more interested in their own self importance, than that of the genuine fans.
I'm pretty sure that in Spain and Germany for example, they don't seem to have this prolonged week after week succession of outrageous calls by the VAR system, perhaps our powers that be ,should get into line !

Someone up their has to get a grip .

That's completely true if you ignore the decisions that go against United.

You've hit the nailnon the head. Nothing will ever change until officials have to somehow explain their decisions or be miked up or some form of accountability.

Right now they're in a comfort zone where nothing they do has any real consequences and when that happens in any walk of life then mediocrity follows closely.

Get rid of VAR, put the money to NHS instead!

I think some people don’t know what accountability means.

Of course referees are accountable.

Not sacking someone because they made one mistake doesn’t mean they’re not accountable.

posted on 12/2/23

What about these refs who are making massive errors again and again? Lee Mason, Jarred Gillet, Stewie Attwell - another week another shocking bunch of decisions.

posted on 12/2/23

Half of these ‘massive errors’ are actually just a difference of opinion.

There’s also huge issues with cheating that makes reffing nigh on impossible.

Incorrect decisions frustrates me as well, but it’s a very difficult job and calling for people to be sacked when they make a couple of errors is really not going to help anyone.

posted on 12/2/23

A difference of opinion between the VAR and his bosses who publicly apologise for the errors?

Not sure what "cheating" can get a VAR to place the line on the wrong defender or just totally forget to check. That is either just total incompetence or willful negligence.

The richest world in the league, all the top technology, the highest paid refs around as well I believe. Yet they sit in Stockley Park and massively influence games with their ineptitude.
