Whole public service a pay rise*
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, I don't have the answer. But if I were forced back into teaching after what I've seen of the private sector, I would be absolutely raging about the salary, the conditions, the hours, the (lack of) respect afforded to the work you do etc. So I fully understand why others feel that way.
I find with teachers, there are good ones and bad ones. You need to have a passion for teaching or you’ll never be any good at it.
You’ve more experience than me in that department but I’ve heard mixed things about teaching knowing a few myself, that’s the conclusion I came to.
My understanding is if you progress well, lead in subjects, teach exam years you can earn a decent salary? Whether it’s worth it I don’t know.
Like you I’m not an economist, but I see why the government aren’t giving into unions, the country simply can’t afford to. There are many unreasonable demands and a strike culture is the last thing we need in this country. That doesn’t mean I don’t believe people deserve to earn more money though.
On the back of the winter of discontent in 1978 (Inflation cost of living, strikes and apparently not having the money to put it right) Thatcher came to power in May 79 by promising everybody a 25% pay rise.
And duly delivered it.

If you know people who've progressed to a good position and salary in teaching, then I'm guessing they have a few years of 60/70-hour weeks behind them. If not, hats off to them as they're obviously naturally gifted.
I can say that an average week of teaching is more demanding than any week I've done in the eight years since I left, and it's not even close. More stressful, more hours, more responsibility, more skill. And I earn much more now, am treated with far greater respect and work in frankly luxurious conditions.
As I say, I don't have the answer, but it simply means public-sector workers will either continue to ask for better or leave in their droves and wonder what on earth they were thinking when they went into the role.
Are tories edible? A good solution would be for doctors and nurses to continue working but not treat tories. And then feed them to the poor

It's not funny Darren.
Tories are very much not edible. Which is a problem and why they are not currently slaughtered en masse to cure hunger. A venomous spider? Do you really want to eat it? Definitely not. A nice little lamb? Absolutely, very tasty. A cute little calf or deer? Mmmmmm.
You wouldn't eat something that is disgusting to all of the senses. It's nature's warning. As Roald Dahl put it:
"If a person has ugly thoughts, it begins to show on the face. And when that person has ugly thoughts every day, every week, every year, the face gets uglier and uglier until you can hardly bear to look at it.
A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts it will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely."
Horrible meat. So not a solution, however logical it seems. I don't want diahorrea

What’s a JD salary at currently?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
F1's go in on £29,000. Up to 34,000 after 1 year and then after core training up to £40k.
It's an actual disgrace. You can get a job in a call centre for £23-24k these days.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not a lot to pay off the undoubtedly massive uni debts they’ll have incurred to get there.

Indeed - cheers Tony Blair

It has not been very well publicised/disseminated, perhaps intentionally by the government so as to not afford them a platform and keep public interest down?

But…but Gary Lineker!
Ludicrous how easily media can dictate what occupies the public’s thoughts and opinions. Front page of just about every paper, and every news website. Farce.

I will be writing an article on this tomorrow. The same BBC gave Lineker the mic to tear down Qatar. It just goes to show the hypocrisy of this country.
Considering that everybody has probably had it at some time it is strange that most can't spell diarrhoea.

Gary is a national treasure and MOTD is something we can all relate to. Junior doctors essentially just Google stuff. They are not needed. Get rid of them and get old people more tech savvy so they can treat themselves
Many older people are "tech savvy". That is not the sole province of morons who cannot walk a few yards down the street without getting in other people's way because they are staring at their mobile with a total lack of spatial awareness.
If you don't have Junior Doctors you can never have Senior Doctors - simples.
Self-diagnosing from Internet information is risky.
84k for an MP is fvck all, no wonder they are all absolute shiiiiit. The clever people we would want running this country earn far more in proper jobs.
Junior doctors are paid far too little, back the strike.

We need to be looking at saving money where we can. The Internet is a great source of information and usually very trustworthy. We should be encouraging older people to self treat themselves based on what is out there on the Internet. Older people are more sensible than young people so will use the Internet wisely. It's a very easy solution.
There are many conditions that have similar symptoms but require different treatment. If you have the old Delhi Belly reaching for the Imodium could be the worst thing to do. Drink plenty of fluids instead to stay hydrated. Eat dry/lightly-buttered toast. I think older people do self-treat themselves more than younger ones as we have had more experience at it. It is amazing what a couple of paracetamol can do.
I know that trying to make an appointment to see your GP can mean a wait of several days (by which time you are either cured or dead) but they need their golf time a couple of days a week.
A term that seems to have disappeared from the medical vocabulary - "House Visit".
Dr Google does more damage than good according to medical professionals of my acquaintance.
Looks like the Hypocratic Oath means nothing nowadays - do they even take it any more?
I only have limited medical training from my Merchant Navy days as a Navigating Officer but that was sufficient to stitch a few wounds and reset a dislocated ulna. A few years back I had to (successfully) give CPR to a bloke who had collapsed in the street.
35% pay rise - get real!

How can you dislocate an ulna?
To dislocate an ulna you fall from a great height and end up with your ulna poking out through your skin, ie. a compound fracture dislocating it from contact with the metacarpal bones in your wrist.
