Cheers for your concerns Scouse. I had a good look round for you but couldn’t see you. I dispensed with the bobble hat to allow a bit of sunshine onto the bonce.
I was very hacked off once again and when we visited our friends I allowed myself to get embroiled in a row about asylum seekers. That was more depressing than the result really, that a good friend could have a Daily Mail perspective. It didn’t help that everyone else was a couple of pints to the good while I was teetotal with a long drive home still to come.
We just seem to have well and truly hit the buffers. Maybe it was all but inevitable that a patchwork squad would eventually run out of gas. Others may disagree but I really think we have missed Osula. He would have provided a different sort of threat with his powerful running. The goals he scored at Accrington were a glimpse of what he might have offered. Didzy looks knackered and Collins like a lost angry sheep.
I thought White did well and though I didn’t really think it was a penalty it was almost identical to the one which he was penalised for at Plymouth. We’ve seen them given, just not for us.
At right back we are very weak and that has been exposed. Forsyth and Cashin have been unable to maintain their majestic levels of earlier in the season and look a bit jaded. In midfield I don’t think that any shuffling of the pack will give us a good hand and yet again we were over-run. I was disappointed Sibley didn’t play from the start. With our first half dominance he was one player who might have found a way to get us a goal.
Mendez-Laing’s crossing was terrible and he also looks tired.
I don’t know what Warne can do that hasn't been tried. All in can think of is:
Wildsmith
Rooney Forsyth Cashin Roberts
Knight Smith Bird Sibley
Didzy Dobbin

You may know your footy, but I doubt you have any experience of lost and angry sheep. A bit like asking Spart for advice on herding cattle. Leave the crofting side of things to me. đ
Do sheep really ever get angry? Overexcitable maybe, but angry, come on!
Trust me. They are generally calm and stoic but when roused.............

You have obviously never seen a ram being aggressive Scouse. Not something you want to get in the way of.
I was thinking more along the lines of the Denis Healey quote, Spart
Why does it happen so often that when our first team hits a rocky patch our affiliates do likewise, ie, U21s and Ewerams and vice versa with a good patch?
And so it happened today when those pesky reds won 2-0 somehow. We should/could have been three up before Forest realised they were playing a game of footie. As usually happens when dominance produces no goals the oppo score with their first attack. The golden rule - take your chances or lose.
Well...it seems contagious....as the Wendies have now lost 2 on the trot.... yesterday losing to Forest Geen Rovers....so it's not just us....

Imagine if they didn't make it!!
Well anything's possible but with the squad they have available you would think the Wendies will be able to come through this blip. Our case is quite different in that sense (squad depth) but we still have sufficient quality in those in our squad not to be written off just yet.
The pertinent question now may be whether our confidence has been broken, especially in defence where we are looking more porous as each game goes by. The only fixtures for me should be Wildsmith, Roberts and Cashin. Fozzie seems to be feeling it all now but we only have Curt to replace him unless Rooney is considered. (Stearman is right out of it, it seems.) Maybe Rooney should step in as he is extremely capable and would not let us down.
Re midfield we still have Knight to come back in and Bird is looking fitter. If Rooney comes in at CB Smith would have to stay at RB so I guess Hourihane stays in midfield unless Sibley slots in there. He looked really sharp when he came on at Pboro. But then I'm forgetting White who stood out on Saturday so there are options.
Re strikers, I hope Didzie has not shot it. He looks really jaded at present. Spart will have a heart attack as that only leaves Collins. M-L too looks jaded or has been sussed and Barks is inconsistent. Time for Springett to step up although he has not shown much so far?
Three quarters through reading your comments Chicago I was going to suggest Barks as a no.9 , false no.9 , whatever the fancy term would be these days?
Team really does need freshening up. I'm asking this blind as I don't see the games live anymore but does Wildsmith need to come out of the side? Had we the West Ham GK as back up it might have been considered but have Wildsmith's performances dipped?
Smith. Cashin. Rooney. Roberts.
or
Odoruh
Knight. Bird. Sibley/Prof
Dobbin. Springett.
Collins.
Doesn't fill me with confidence but I think our main threat McGoldrick, N M-L, Barks need a breather. Hourihane to come out to see how this improves the midfield balance.
I am wondering if trying Odoruh on the right wing to provide Smith with defensive support , so we become more 442 with Dobbin up front alongside Collins and Sibley on the left wing?
All interesting suggestions Desi.
Oduroh looked so promising when LR picked him but he does not seem to appeal to PW and has not caught the eye in the U21s (at least in the highlights I've seen.) Sibley has looked good on the left and could be an option there. Maybe Barks could be a 10 rather than false 9 and yes, maybe Dobbin could play 9. I believe he favours that position himself. However, Wildsmith has to stay put. He may have been at fault on Saturday but really he has been so consistently good otherwise that he is a strong contender for Player of the Season, I think.
As Shaun Barker said, it could be that a single spark is all that's needed to get things going again. If that can ignite agin Ipswich with a good win and an uplifted crowd who knows what could happen?
I think it would be very harsh on Joe W to take him out of the side, Desi. He 'might' have done better with the first goal (even Eric Steel criticised him a bit) but he also made some crucial saves in the 2nd half.
Not sure what McGee would bring to the team that Joe doesnt. Who knows, he may be accident prone ?
I had a discussion with others about Wildsmith and the first goal.
The basic consensus, was that the Peterborough lad hit it really well (and hard), so he had no chance! Our midfield were the ones at fault.
I rather like Vidal's set up...
Wildsmith
Rooney Forsyth Cashin Roberts
Knight Smith Bird Sibley
Didzy Dobbin
Mind you, be tough on White, after the best performance
we've seen from him.
Would like to have heard Darren Robbo's take on things, but think it's Eric S again on the moan in tonight đ¤
Wouldn't be averse to White or Hourihane for Smith in that line up. It gets both Knight and Sibley in the team and it means NML and either Barkhuizen or Springett could come on fresh later on in the game if necessary. Knight's energy would also give Rooney a bit of protection.
Vidal, you seem to have gone off Smith. Was he really bad against Pboro? I ask as I think you were there and probably had a better perspective than that allowed by TV cameras.
