Not by our fans but Ledley King by media. There was always a major love in for Terry and Ferdinand but for me King was a better player than Terry. Maybe not Ferdinand who I'd regard as the best centre half we've had in the Prem era (from England).
Dembele is a great shout.
One that often gets overlooked for me is Vertonghen - I think that sometimes there is this perception of him sometimes seeming 'lackadaisical', but for me he just oozed class. Was perfect in Poch's best team, would be (or would have been) brilliant even in Conte's system too, for me.
I acknowledge that many fans group Toby and Jan together but feel that sometimes, as Toby was the one to come to the club later, he gets a little more credit, but for me, Jan was just as good, if not better - absolute rolls royce of a centre half.
Michael Carrick.
While not a PL great, Chris Smalling. We essentially spent 110m+ on 2 inferiors replacements for him.
Carrick is a good shout.
I'm going to throw a controversial one in there and say Frank Lampard.
I know he gets heralded for his goalscoring and being a great player.
But I think in terms of his tactical, defensive and playmaking abilities he's very much overlooked.
The way he would one weekend knock 2 goals in in the premier league and then midweek be away at somewhere like barcelona and have to dig in and play a more defensive role was very underrated.
He got 2nd in ballon d'or to ronaldinho one year.
Very good player off the ball too.

wouldn't suprise you being a cfc fan, that I completely disagree. I think if anything kings injuries made him overrated. Absence making the heart grow fonder etc.

Yep brilliant player who was much than just arriving late in the box and penalties.
Ray Parlour. Think he is largely seen as a talentless workhorse but he had some real quality. His "its only Ray Parlour" goal being the highlight, but he had many great performances, and in big games too.
I'm still annoyed his goal for England was incorrectly ruled out.
Ricardo carvalho for me. I thought he had the lot. John terry takes all the credit for that era but carvalho was equally as good.
Rarely gets mentioned amongst the all time great prem cbs.

Well this might surprise you, I agree with you!
I probably don't have the best perspective - I'm 30 this year. But whenever I look back on videos etc, I honestly don't see anything special - certainly nowhere near Ferdinand, Terry, or even Toby level. Looks leggy, often out of position and quite top heavy.
Obviously people will know a whole lot more about him than me, and he must have been great with all the things that opponents such as Henry have since said about him, and he's a fantastic bloke!

Yes. There were the deflections too.
I always say this but Kyle Walker. Over a decade being one of the best RBs in the league, won it all domestically.
Ginola.
What a player.
One of those players that when he was "on it" the entire WHL would literally stand up in anticipation of something amazing about to happen.... everytime he got the ball.
Mahrez is one - he’s a modern great imo but rarely gets talked about.
Koscielny
Owen Hargreaves
Petit - he’s one of the best CMs since the 1990s but rarely gets mentioned
Nacho Monreal. Great little player. Rosicky as well
Eriksen is another one who lived in the shadow of Kane Son at Spurs and is kinda the same around all the big money buys at United. One of those players who makes your team a lot worse when he's missing

Hargreaves? FFS
Oh and for most overated player Sol 'Me Me Me' Campbell. Decent obvs but had the turning circle of a tractor - not a patch on Adams or Keown
Crazy to say but I don't think Varane gets quite the credit he deserves in our current team.
It's all Rashford, Casemiro and even Martinez but other than the Liverpool 2nd half aside where everyone was shocking I don't think Varane has had a game this season where he's been below a 7 out of 10 and usually higher than that.
Dan Arsenal - really???
As much as i cant stand Sol, not a patch on Keown??
If i had to mention a gooner i would have gone for Santi Cazorla.
Maybe not Ferdinand who I'd regard as the best centre half we've had in the Prem era
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Ledley was better than Ferdinand IMO

Yeah always thought he could be easily turned by a small tricky player. Keown was very underated, was unspectacular but did everything withour fuss and rarely made a mistake.
