This really is a case of going out of one’s way to find something to be offended about.

We had the same thing last year with calls to change our cockerel to one without "spurs" on its feet as it promoted animal cruelty through bird fighting

To be fair the Cockerel will show more fight than the Spurs players right now

I like the ship, never cared for the eagle with all the daft stars. I always thought Manchester did its bit for abolitionists when the mill workers refused to work on cotton from sessionist states during the US civil war. I think an honest reappraisal of our history is a good thing, but this is fecking ridiculous.

The Manchester ship canal basically saved the city. Without it Liverpool would now be the dominant northern city for trade and industry. There's no doubt about it.

This is where a lot of the rivalry between the two cities stems from. Scousers were annoyed as hell when we started to take trade from them.

As for the woke folk trying to cancel the crests.....it's just bleeding stupid. Times have changed. The past is the past.

A small segment of society has gone woke, largely influenced by the US. Majority of people couldn’t give a flying fack about this type of bollox

They don't say who is making such ridiculous claims. The way they present it you'd think there's a whole chunk of society backing those claims but I bet you'll find it's just a couple of idiots on social media.

The article itself is clickbait, designed to evoke exactly the kind of reaction it's evoking. " World gone woke" blah blah blah. And the Manchester Council talking about "we don't want to erase the City's past". Nobody facking asked you to erase the City's past and removing some ships from some stuff is not erasing the City's past.

No mention of getting rid of the devil? He's the one that makes people put things in their ass and stuff, right?

This was always by understanding. The ship celebrates the ship canal, which drastically changed the fortunes of the city and provided many jobs. I don't think that we even had the ship on our logo until the 60s. Are we really to believe that the club decided that was a good time to start celebrating slavery? 150 years after it was abolished?

It’s always important to shine a light on the atrocities of the past so that we can learn from them. It reminds me of my past when I wasn’t a vegan. I grew up thinking eating meat was ok but then after a night out myself and my now wife found ourselves perched up against an abattoir. After reading up on what it was we together vowed to never eat meat again and regularly challenge and campaign against those who do.

This is similar. If there are links to the boats and slavery then conversations should be had and an alternative found. Historical context does not excuse wrongdoing - it’s why we don’t in society accept gollies on display in pubs

Manchester was known as the cotton capital of the world as a result of the shipping trade.

Shut up you moron. The canal didn't even open until 80 years after slavery was abolished. You don't know what you're talking about.

I’m proud of Britain’s role in the slave trade. Our crusade to end it is one of the proudest moments for any nation in history.

British people just don’t know their history.

Sorry but have there not been enough examples of this kind of rubbish which have been put in place due to this tiny section of society which, tiny as it may be, has a very loud voice.

It doesn’t take a majority for stupid things to happen and we shouldn’t ignore it just because it’s a few daft people with little to do with their lives.

Getting people to do things that they don’t agree with out of fear of being labelled bigoted, racist or imperialist is not something we should allow to happen.

It should rightly be immediately rebuffed, not entertained and mocked.

Canals and access to transportation for good via the seas is one of the fundamental causes for Britain’s historic international success as a nation.

This is pathetic nonsense
