He's right up there. I don't think there's much between Scholes, Gerrard, Lampard and KDB, just down to preference of style and bias.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Do non United fans ever include Scholes in the debate?
Feels like they just want some representation and chuck him in, I don't think he was on their level. Very good as though he was.
Closer to Frank but the other two easily clear imo.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's hard to word this in a way that doesn't sound like i'm having a go... But yea, the non UTD football fans I know that properly understand the midfield absolutely rate Scholes as one of the best CM of that generation. I lived in Portugal during a lot of his career and my friends their loved the way he played.
You only have to see quotes from the likes of Xavi, Pep and Zidane to know that he was at the top of his game. A lot of English fans prefer a roy of the rovers type though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There's even better quotes about Gerrard than Scholes. Many greats called him the best very often.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Now we are comparing quotes
As i said at the start, there is really not much between them.
It seems only the scousers on here have that inability to be impartial, based on their bias and crippling issues of inadequacy (probably due to only winning one asterisk title* in 30+ years)...
All the other posters on here from various clubs have zero problem saying a rival player is up there.
He's surpassed Scholes snd Lampard and now up there with Viera and Gerrard imo.
Based on
Achievements and ability, you'd have to say
Scholes
KDB
Gerrard
lampard

Sorry for having an opinion.
I'm not wumming, can't even work out why you'd think that. I'm not alone in thinking it either, there are numerous interviews with England internationals who say Gerrard was the nuts, the best they played with.
Bang on about the one eyed ginger bottling 'pass master' with as many career assists as our 24 year old right back all you like. It's known as the Scholes effect.
I have Keane ahead of Schole fwiw
Robbi was the best imo but only just made the PL
Was going to say Robson too 52, but didn't for the same reason.
I'll always take complete footballers over one trick ponies personally.
Who is a one trick pony out of those mentioned?
KDB is right up there with the very best. No more needs to be said.
KDB is in the best ever PL midfielder conversation. I'm surprised that Vieira wasn't mentioned on this thread until a tongue-in-cheek comment on the second page. Think he has to be on that short list too.
And what about Modric - undoubtedly one of the very best midfielders of his age. Probably doesn't have a big enough body of work in the Premier League to be included, but I'd like to point out that South London Manc and I both knew how good he was back in his Spurs days.
I'm the one who mentioned Viera, because I know what I'm talking about, and there is nothing tongue in cheek about the comment, it's just my opinion and one that stands up to scrutiny quite easily if we leave bias at the door.
Modric went up a level in Spain, not sure he did his best work in England.

He is above all three, followed closely by Scholes. In my view, he ranks with Zico and Pirlo. The only thing that might harm his legacy is his inability to perform at the international level with Belgium.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
+/- no CL trophy legacy, though he still has time
Yaya Toure was better. If he had a longer stint in the prem, he would prob have equalled or surpassed all the names mentioned in terms of consistency and longevity.
If I had to choose 1, I would have pick Yaya in my team over KDB because he could do absolutely everything and he was a tank.
Yeah Toure was unplayable when he was on it. Underrated free kick taker too.

He didn’t have as good a range of passing as KDB
Toure Yaya was as good as anyone top of his game but that lasted about 24 months max

what? Achievements lampard achieved more than all bar maybe scholes (lampard second in ballon d'or etc which bumps him up)
It's not so much the range for me re: KDB, it's his ability to manipulate the ball with it too and bend it around defences.
I would probably say gerrard is the pick, he was just outstanding but I think lampard is very underrated in terms of all round game, more assists than scholes and gerrard, also better imo tactically/defensively.
Would go from sitting in deep against barca in europe one week, to scoring a hat trick at the weekend in the PL.
