Said it about him from the start, he's a slightly more polished version of mustafi.
He's got the raw skills, but also a completely brain-dead defender.
“If I have to make a tackle then I have already made a mistake.”
All I ever see him doing is lunging in. Yes, he plays with utterly useless defenders and that doesn't help, but he has never looked that good to me. Just someone the "passion merchants" love.

Would like to see him with a better partner.

I believe he would be much better in a team that presses high. He was at fault for one goal today but then he created another. He is just like the rest of this back line completely out of form and devoid of concentration and good decision making.
It’s a fair comment. Even the best centre backs would struggle alongside Dier. The guy is a walking disaster these days.
his style really isn't suited to a lot of deep box defending because he's naturally gonna give fouls away. in a high line he'll be good. he's also very comfortable on the ball, doesn't like to settle for simple sideways passes to the centre back or the wing back

It's a high-risk playstyle that looks great when it comes off but absolutely facking dreadful when it doesn't. Plus something about him really facks me off. He's got a properly irritating face. Looks like he doesn't give a fack, saunters round like he's not making idiotic mistakes when he's doing so constantly

A fair few Spurs fans also accused him of downing tools at the start of the season as he was only interested in staying fit for the World Cup.

Dier also struggles because he plays alongside Romero.
He is the best we have got and noot as bad as being made out. Midweek he was stepping into midfield and driving us on, today he set up a goal. Needs a lot of coaching but he is still a hell of a lot better than Dier or Sanchez

Don't necessarily agree with this. Dier is more than capable of facking up entirely on his own nowadays

Yeah he was mysteriously injured for a month before the WC and then fit as a fiddle for Argentina’s first game.
Did Dier make him lose Diaz for that goal?
Did Dier force him to make a sliding tackle in the box and concede a penalty?
Dier is pony, but not the cause of Romero’s decision making. Scapegoat.

Of course he is, but he’s regularly hung out to dry by Romero not having a clue what he’s doing either. Romero is brainless irrespective of Dier, but it’s just not a partnership that works either.

He certainly was first half v United
Between Porro and Romero, United had that entire flank free to run into in the first half
A rash player and a clown usually make the worst combinations of all to be fair, which is what they are. Reminds me of Lovren and Moreno down our left side.
Did Dier force him to make a sliding tackle in the box and concede a penalty?
-----------------------------------------------------------------
actually yes. Dier diving in like a mug just outside the area left romero totally exposed if you watched the game and not just the tackle
It’s been happening all season. People wondered why Conte persisted with Emerson at rwb, but this is what happens when you have two players trying to defend the right side that can’t defend.
Romero has been awful recently no doubt, but his form is emblematic of our wider recruitment issues both with playing and coaching staff. The guy made a name for himself at a high-press, high-line Atalanta team where he ended up winning Serie A defender of the year no less. So what do we do, sign him for a huge fee and then pair him up with Nuno and then Conte lolz. There is is absolutely no strategy in place at the club. Its absolute madness. Nothing changes on the footballing side of things until we create some sort of sporting identity for ourselves no matter who we bring in.

Not sure Dier even dived in - looked like he just fell/lumbered into the Liverpool player
In the ten games Porro’s started in the prem, Spurs have conceded 26 goals. That’s mental.
