Isn’t Van Veem about 30? Great player but surely doesn’t fit any notion of a buy, develop and re sell model?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
could be a vialble back up option on the cheap... no resale value in him but also not real outlay.

would imagine 500k at the most for Van Veen.

No offence to Queens Park but fook them getting up, we would be looking forward to Queens V Livingston with attendance around 750 in the top flight , brutal 😖
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hate this sort of attitude to be honest

Best thing we could do is amalgamate the top two tiers and the bottom two tiers

Only way our league as a whole is going to get better is if clubs like Queens Park actually get exposure and play at a higher level

Watched the national league playoff matches over the weekend there, couple of cracking games...over 15000 at Notts County, and almost 6000 at Chesterfield...this is in the fifth tier in England

It's ridiculous how badly sold our game is up here
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yet Scotland has the best attendances per head of any country in Europe?

I don't think he will fit into Beale's set up where is looks for a far more mobile striker who can link up.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Is that the defining aspect of his system? All I see when I watch you guys is hopeful balls crossed into the box 'looking for something to happen'. Any linking up seems to lead mainly to that?

posted on 10/5/23

Don't think Shankland or Van Veen will be on the shortlist tbh. Both are similar to Colak without being an upgrade so I can't see it. Think Whittaker is still the number one target there.

aye but your glasses are slightly more green tinted than mine. Your judging Beales plans on watching Morelos up top.

He aint a striker though, if thats our plan for next year its not good enough.

the boy has never played as a striker with any of his prev clubs either. He is a wide player.

a stat skewed massively by the old firm fans

He played as a striker for Plymouth and seemed to catch the eye. By all accounts thats who Beale wants.

posted on 10/5/23

Whittaker is a winger.

Did Beale not run his big mouth and say we would be excited about the striker he plans on signing. That surely rules out those two.

posted on 10/5/23

a rebuild can be exciting to be fair, i recall waking up to us signing Furuhashi, completely out the blue and it was exciting.

Morelos is going to end up back in colombia, being fat and getting sent off all the time.

No he said he had a striker in mind who he felt could take us up a level but didn't want to say anymore as who he wanted wouldn't be available until the summer. Or words to that effect.

Ross Stewart is another we have had our eye on for a while and he comes in to the category of not being available until summer.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

That tactic is nothing to do with Morelos. It is simply about getting Tav or Barisic wide with your wingers tucked in so that they can cross it in.

You have used that tactic time and time again against us and plenty other teams. I'm sure I saw a stat with numbers of crosses per team.

Like Celtic were in the early 2000's, Rangers are a set piece team. Their tactic is to get free kicks within 40-50 yards of the goal

strikers are tough because its hard to get a good one on the cheap, their main stat is goals and it tends to be one that really stands out.

I'd be curious what the budget is, they can say there isn't one all they like, there has to be.

Not under Beale. Think that was very much GVB way of playing, Beale not so much.

I dont think you can watch Morelos for us this season and say he will be implementing Beales plan to the standards he is after and assume that he is after the same next season.

Very hard to get. Budget wise at the weekend he said his task was to improve the quality on the same budget he has.

Presumably that means the saving on wages of so many moving on will be reinvested and anything brought in on fees can go back in to the team. So basically no budget other than one created. He's fortunate though the wage saving is substantial enough to probably give about £5m to work with over a season. If he can move on a couple of others we're maybe in the £10m bracket.

like I said green tinted glasses. maybe thats our tactic cos we DONT have a mobile striker cos Fredo no longer offers that.

Its almost as if I already said that Fredo no longer fits what Beale is wanting from a striker.

So you can judge Beales attacking intent and shape if you want based on a striker that is not suited to what Beale is looking to do if you want and wont be with us next season.

Is it really, though? I could equally argue that Aberdeen should have a bigger attendance given its >200k population. Ditto Morton, Livingston, Inverness, Ayr, Kilmarnock, Dundee...the list is endless but the one thing they nearly all complain about is buses leaving for Glasgow so you cannot have the argument both ways!

It will need to be a level above the boy Dowell we have apparantly signed... nothig confirmed but that is a poor deal IMO.

We need far better than that and if that is the level of player we are bringing in it wont be good enough.

‘"There are no restrictions on budget, there is money to spend in the summer - it's a good amount, I think, for a Rangers manager, compared to what I've seen in previous years. I'm really positive about the summer."

said from the get go if you think he hasnt been given some assurances in terms of decent budget then your aint the brightest.

No way he is leaving a championship team in the top half of the table, knock back Wolves if we havent got some assurances about a decent guaranteed budget to work with.

posted on 10/5/23

I think with respect to him the idea there are no restrictions on budget is a nonsense. He will clearly have a budget. Unusual for any manager to reveal what that looks like publicly but I'd say his answer on Sunday was more realistic.
