I'm not sure I agree. Maybe it's a semantic thing, but I see the country as being divided in the sense that many people exist in echo chambers, whereby they can't understand the other side's opinion and debate is impossible. It's all just outrage and arguing.
In my idealistic world, there should be proper grown up adult discussion and disagreement on this rather than drawing battle lines. At risk of beating the Brexit horse, the least we could do is learn from it.
But Brexit is a good example of why you need that divide for any extreme changes. I do agree with your idealistic world, but on a purely practical basis of how constitutional change comes about, it’s not likely to come under those conditions.
I think it's an absolutely terrible example of democracy in action. I'm sure that'll be in history books if it isn't already as a 'how not to do'
That may be, but that’s a different argument. As an example of huge political change, it’s a good example of why you need divide. You don’t get that with stability.

If we didn’t currently have a monarchy, and there was a public vote wether we should make some toff king, give him and his family loads of land and palaces, I seriously doubt there would be much support for the idea, if people were really honest
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hardly a reason to abolish them. There are many things that if framed in the same way would not be introduced now, like drinking alcohol. Trying banning that!

No, that would be because it’s an absurd system that belongs in the 1400’s
I hope all the booing masses declined the bank holiday and went to work or at least did something positive with their day off like volunteering or other charitable acts.
I'm guessing not and this comes back to my overall point re: booing the anthem. People are all very willing to focus on the negative, to make this misdirected protest but it actually achieves feck all and in basic terms is just bitter whinging. Anyone who has read anything about the Charles would know that he is extremely uncomfortable with the pomp and ceremony and is all too aware hoe it all appears to the masses who struggle with daily life and don't have a golden carriage of their own. The bank holiday, people were encouraged to do something positive, do something for others for the greater good, and that very much reflects King Charles outlook.
People can boo if they want to but actually energies would be better focused on doing something positive, and while some may have, as said above I suspect the majority just spent the day doing wtf they like.
People should be grateful for a day off?
I’d imagine that’s what your king was thinking when he was being booed, these bloody peasants have got an extra day off, what more do they want, now pass me my crown while I wave at some sheep
I'm pretty sure that Devonshire would not only kneel in front of the King, but would give him a sloppy gobble while he's down there.
Stand up Devonshire, show some backbone.
So we should only have the day off if we are paying homage to our overlord now?
I hope Devonshire spent Good Friday and Easter Monday in church celebrating the Lord or doing something useful like volunteering. We wouldn't want him achieving nothing on those days off.
It was an extra bank holildaybto mark the coronation. A day when you didn't have to work but still get paid.
If your boss said to you, have tomorrow off and I'll still pay you, would uou be grateful or just bitter about how your boss has power over you and is wealthier than you.
Of course I was grateful for an extra bank holiday.

Yep. It's cost the country £1.36bn, as did the fvcking funeral.

I know you're on the WUM (very few are this much of a cuuuuuunt) but yes, I would quite happily turn down that bank holiday if it meant £1.36bn was spent on homelessness because I'm not a Tory piece of shiiiiiiit.
You wouldn't, as you think watching a gold hat be put on your leader is more important, and that's fine. It's just who you are as a person.

Did the coronation actually cost £1.36b? That is fecking outrageous why wasn’t it funded by the tax free inheritance the monarch received?

No it didnt, the actual cost of the vent was a fraction of that. It may have cost that much in lost productivity, and on that basis Hoody the internet warrior is probably against all bank holidays because it costs so much and the money that could be spent on the homeless and all the other worthy causes he gives his time too. Because there is no way this pillar of the community is a hypocrite.

WTF is this mess
The costs thrown around for these things doesn’t tell the whole story.
Much of the money is spent into UK business.
Much of it was already committed spend and the resource was allocated to the event.
Putting money into the UK economy is not necessarily a bad thing.
Again, it’s overly simplistic to just take a headline figure and scream about it. But this is the way of certain people on forums who have no intention of understanding both sides of the debate.
Sales of tents, yoeman teddies and ingredients for jam will have been a real shot in the arm for the U.K. economy
The monarchy should have died with the Queen tbh. History of drug abuse, alleged racism, alleged human trafficking and sexual assault. The queen was the last decent remaining member of the family and even she used tax payers’ money to cover it all up.
