Until we had friends from there, and met other people from Iran, I had never thought of visiting, but they made it sound so good I'm tempted.
Another thing I was ignorant about, I thought everyone from that region were
mm, light brown; they are from Algeria for example. But our friends, no, if she was without headscarf she could be from Manchester say.

Iran's way up my list for places to visit, definately the sort of place to go to on an organised tour which I don't usually like.
How come no one wants to visit the cradle of civilisation? Probably the safest area in the ME, although not saying much.
Persians live in Iran. Arabs live in Algeria. As many of both do in Manchester and the rest of the UK.

Exactly what is wrong or funny about that?
Is it general knowledge that Duran's are white.
It's difficult to describe the colour of somebody's skin, but I'm doing my best.

In which case Duran Durans must be whiter than white (despite, as anyone in the skin trade should know, being, notoriously, wild boys).
Lovely country but I'm not sure you could ever belong to that country given the situation in recent years. In fact I actually asked a famous tennis player if you could belong to that country and he rather emphatically shouted YOU CANNOT BE SYRIA'S
