Always used to be Blade Runner but just recently I'm of the opinion 2049 is somehow even better.
Dune, but not sure you can call it Sci-fi really.
Alien ans Aliens.

I've never seen any star wars movies and not because i don't think they would be good but because the people that obsess about them are total weirdos.
I don't want to fall down that trap.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yep That's where I am. (I think ive upset Rosso)
not a movie but 'the expanse' is great
Honourable mentions:
Moon
Ex-machina
Total Recall (proper one)
Bubble gum but hugely enjoyable:
Edge of Tomorrow
Interstellar, Inception, ex-Machina, Arrival, Sunshine, Minority Report,
Agree with Hoody, the most recent blade runner was fantastic. Hope they make another.

Its like saying that Messi isn't the GOAT
Stars Wars is sofvcking good I didn't even include it as it's a given.
A lot of my faves have been listed, so will list a few indie sci-fi flicks that I love:
Another Earth
The Endless
Coherent
Primer
I also really like Cloud Atlas, which has some sci-fi elements. Underrated film, imho.

terminator 2
Aliens
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Didnt think it was really a debate.
T2 and Aliens, G.O.A.T.S.
like I said shouldnt even be up for discussion !!!
Watched ad astra a while back, its okay, could argue ist boring doesnt go how i thought it would
The obvious ones are
Blade Runner
Alien
Aliens
Back to the Future
Predator
2001
Star Wars (it is a brilliant groundbreaking movie whatever anyone thinks and Lucas was a brilliant film maker at that point)
Then there's other great ones like
Videodrome (peak Cronenberg)
Brazil
Starship Troopers
Idiocracy
Matrix
Terminator 1 & 2
Stalker
5th Element
Robocop
Dredd (hugely underated and written by Alex Garland who's made loads of great sci-fi).
Time Bandits
Akira
Miracle Mile (is that sc-fi?)
They Live
Westworld
Mad God (mental film I saw recently)
Capricorn One
Loads of others that maybe I don't consider sci-fi but probably are.
Never been much of a Nolan fan, find his films too cold and detached and the whole love theme in Interstellar was corny.
Annihilation though its also a psychological horror, the ending is interesting
Not comfortable with the idea of putting cultural artefacts into genres and sub-genres etc., but when dealing with the inhabitants of Rome ..... then do as the inhabitants of Rome would have us do:
Blade Runner - both beautiful and painful
Alien - Paranoia capturing
Mad Max - just plain loopy and fun
or anything based on Ms Shelley's meisterwerk - which, indeed, most decent movies/films are
Capricorn One is a really good film MU82.
Star Trek 1 - 4, not a fan of 5 and 6
Star Trek (Reboot) 1 & 2, not a fan of 3
Aliens
Inception
The Thing (Original)
Terminator 2
The Matrix
Off the top of my head
i cant watch those really old sci fi, seem laughable bad to me
Diafol
Yeah its great, remember watching it as a teenager one night not really expecting anything and being hooked.

I thought it was weak... Basically a rehash of apocalypse now (which was already a rehash).
It took itself way too seriously for what was a pretty uneventful film that didn't really have much to say about the father/son relationship
Melancholia is quite an interesting film, though the sci-fi elements are really just a metaphor.
