2001 A Space Oddity, by a mile.
(I've never seen a Star Wars film in my life).
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Comment of the day so far. Take a Bowie, son.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I also think that not seeing a Star Wars film yet is no 'stranger' than only seeing 2001 ASO just last week.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Id seen it before but only ever properly sat down and watched it when it was on the biggest screen in 35mm. And just left me cold.
It is weird you haven’t seen a Star Wars movie. Avoid plot spoilers for the second one. Just like a blind prostitute you’ll never see it coming.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
OK. But I think its wierder that you hadn't seen 2001 before. Still got 20 years to do better than you in the Star wars stakes. I have probably have seen most of Star Wars on TV clips over the years. I have even been on the the tour in Tunisia... but never sat down to watch any film in its entirety.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I saw the first star wars in the theater opening week. When we came out there was a huge lineup and my friend said " I thought it would be in color". Got the crowd buzzing.
Terminator
Terminator 2
Predator
The Thing
The Abyss
The Matrix
Alien/s
Interstellar
Annihilation
Sunshine
The fly
Robocop
Event horizon
The time machine
Prometheus (great film but annoying how this and covenant played with the original stories)
Total recall
I am legend
Pacific rim
Fred's
Cloverfield
Limitless
War of the worlds
Pitch black
The prestige
Dark city
Starship troopers
They live
Back to the future
My list, not including any star wars or marvel/dc
Freds was meant to be Dredd
As well as the ones mentioned, Joss Whedon's Serenity is great
Greg, so out of your exhaustive list of Sri-fi movies which one do you consider the best?
Aliens
Alien
T2
The Terminator
Predator
Robocop
Starship Troopers
Star Trek 2 - The Wrath of Khan
Plus The Matrix - can't believe I forgot that🫣
Space oddysee is a whole lot of meh. Agreed

Difficult one.
I think in terms of a movie actually blowing me away, it has to be the Matrix although I do love the thing. The effects in that movie are terrifying.

Yeah its great, remember watching it as a teenager one night not really expecting anything and being hooked.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Watched it as a kid and a few times since too. It's on ITV X at present.
Never seen Star Wars either.
Does Close Encounters count?
And if so, what about Life of Brian for just that 3 minutes section.
Furthermore, if I am allowed to be super-pedantic, there’s masses amounts of science, and fiction, in The Curse of the Were Rabbit.
Clangers The Movie - Broth of Soup Dragon (although it was low budget and the dialogue was poor).

A lot of my faves have been listed, so will list a few indie sci-fi flicks that I love:
Another Earth
The Endless
Coherent
Primer
I also really like Cloud Atlas, which has some sci-fi elements. Underrated film, imho.

Alien
Aliens
T2
Blade Runner
Predator
Star Wars trilogy
Back to the Future
The usual suspects really (no not the film). Saw T2 only recently and still holds up. They don't do action sci-fis like this anymore.
Very much enjoyed Blade Runner 2049 and the Dune remake as far as recent movies. Denis Villeneuve is the go to guy if you need a sci-fi remake or sequel. Would love to see what he could do with the Alien and Terminator franchises

I'd love to see a Denis Villeneuve Star Wars film
3 pages in and we still seem to be missing a lot of big names, both all-timers (planet of the apes) and last 20 odd years (under the skin). but in terms of lesser names we could have:
timecrimes
triangle
phase iv
silent running
invasion of the body snatchers (1978)
the man who fell to earth
starman
the day the earth stood still (1951)
the day the earth caught fire
donnie darko
predestination
looper
moon
depending on our definitions i'd also throw in being john malkovich and escape from new york, but they may be pushing it a little. as, surely, is eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, though technically it relies heavily on a sci-fi cocept and technology.
eternal sunshine of the spotless mind

My favourite sci-fi rom-com!
Deffo one of my top 10 all time films.
On a slight tangent, who's the hottest woman in a sci fi film? Hard to beat Ana de Armas in Bladerunner 2047, though Sigourney in ghostbusters is something else. Sharon Stone in Total Recall too... swoon

It would be interesting but I'd like it if they just stopped doing anything Star Wars related for a while. Talk about overkill.

Love Blade Runner. The sequel was very good too.
Nobody has mentioned Serenity yet. The Firefly series was excellent too. Shame it didn’t last long.
