Babies/Kids on Flights

It’s ok to desire a seat away from them but hard to put into practice. In the old days they had a smoking section at the back and it was fvcking bogging if you got anywhere near it.

Before I had kids, I found the crying quite grating. When I had kids, I became acutely responsive to the sound of my own ones crying, while callously indifferent to that of other people's babies. To some extent, the latter has stayed with me. Unless they are nearby and very piercing, I tend to be able to tune out.

Noise cancelling headphones and downloading a playlist of bangers also helps.

I'm not actually that bothered by the crying, but on long haul flights i do always look at parents with babies just a few months old and wonder why they put themselves through it. As you say, more than anything I imagine it's actually quite distressing for the baby.

I also don't have kids but if I did I don't think I'd take them on flights outside of Europe until they were at least 2 or 3.

I'm not disputing a parent's right to take kids on holiday but I can't think it's much fun being with a baby in a hot country after a long flight!

If it is bad for you Diafol, you can be sure it is worse for the parents.

We had twins and on short haul we’d buy one extra seat so we could at least put one down and get to the loo. It never failed to confuse the fck out the staff when their headcount was one short and we always had to be aware when they were doing it and alert them or the plane was delayed.

And if you think it’s hard wiping your @rse in a plane toilet try changing a nappy. More contortions than the Kama sutra.

I get that. I can't imagine it's much fun for them. That's why I'm suggesting an area perhaps where people are all in the same boat (plane) so to speak.

i once told a guy to F off as he was being a complete n0b towards a young couple whose baby was crying.

I never took any of my children on holiday or to a restaurant until I could trust them to behave themselves. I went to Florida with my youngest when she was a baby because she was brilliant, she hardly ever cried. I never went abroad again for a good 6 years because my other kids were criers.

The guy probably deserved that if acting as you described.

I believe the children are our future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be

I believe when I have kids I’m not taking them on a flight until they can behave themselves. Putting them and others through stress for a 1 week all inclusive in Malaga, nah. Only exception if we are visiting family.

Weaponise your child.

If the people in front or behind are being complete nobscocks, wait til they start to nod off then give your child a pinch.

I think it's a good idea Diafol, don't see anything wrong with it.
Many many year ago I was flying Manchester to Paris ,last flight. There was a woman on her own with a toddler and baby. The baby was quiet but the toddler wasn't.
I ask the mum if I could take the toddler for ten minutes to give her a break, she said yes, I think she would've said yes to anything by then.
Anyway it was a great flight, he didn't cry for me because I was a stranger I guess. We played little games which I let him win , which he loved. I listened and answered all his questions seriously. We were both sorry when the plane landed.
I'm not sure if I could do it now, it hasn't cropped up.
