I find it surprising that he's still fetching such a large sum. Similar to Mount both have a certain valuable skillset, but they have also shown that they are one of the major contributing factors (long spells of lack of creativity/end product) aka part of the problem when things were going wrong with their respective teams.
Good to have as squad players, but not better than having Eriksen on a free or keeping Lo Celso who's an absolute banging playmaker as shown in Argentina NT. He's a totally different player here under Conte et al and a good manager should have been able to get more out of him...

Decent, good value. Useful squad player, think he showed more purpose with the ball under Mason.

Maddison is a better goal threat than Eriksen. We had Eriksen at his peak, he hasn't been since he left. Maddison is in his. A HG player as well and we need more of them.
I for one am looking forward to seeing what he can do.

Maddison did much better than Mount in a much worse team. He'll get much be first XI not a squad player.
I think we'd like the idea of Lo Celso coming back and doing well for us but he doesn't seem interested. Maybe he doesn't like England

Maddison is better than Eriksen and Lo Celso. It’s a good signing for Spurs. He walks straight into their midfield and adds goals and creativity, something they’ll need even more if Kane leaves.

As a neutral fan I obviously haven't watched all games, but Mount was really dire compared to his previous 3 seasons. And according to some of my Leichester fans Maddison had a similar fall from grace and was accused of not putting in a shift (being a luxury player) or lacking the urgency of the moment.
Sure he will fit the gaping hole of creativity Spurs have, but I don't think he's going to be the nailed on starter some think he'll be and you can quote me on that like those funny VVD threads if I'm wrong
pretty sure the majority of Leicester fans view maddison as Leicester's player of the season last year and see him as one of the few players who could hold his head high in terms of his attitude

Fair enough.
I get that he's not coming as a World Class player but he's exactly the right kind of player for what we need, and have needed since Eriksen left. Especially now we're going to be playing attacking football.
I do wonder if creative players are easy targets when the team isn't doing well. They're not seen to be scoring lots or putting crunching tackles in.. you need a functioning team for them to look good. Hopefully we can sort that out!

It's the old skool way of thinking that the playmaker is often the best paid player in the team with the most privileges on and off the pitch. They have the heavy responsibility of receiving all balls when crunchtime / team being clueless and are expected to do something special.
And who can blame them as fans are historically spoiled with players who can actually do that more often than not, from Cruyff to Ronaldinho/Zidane or lesser gods like Arshavin, Okocha, Ginola.
But it isn't really fair in modern game to expect that unless you're Messi or Neymar in terms of creativity potential...
Yeah that's definitely true, though I think the more modern Premier League fan sees the high pace, sprinting for every ball whether it's going out for a goal kick or not, going in for a 50-50 even if you're risking a bad injury. Workmanlike players like Hojbjerg get a lot of praise for their effort while a number 10 might have run just as much but been marked out of the game or not have the runners in front of him so can't create anything. Especially in a poor side.
All of which to say, under Postecoglou, Maddison will be in an attacking midfield position often pressing at the very front. He'll be winning the ball in dangerous positions with much better players around him to make use of it. If he were coming in to Conte's Spurs I'd share many of your concerns. He's not at the level where he'll transform us into a better team. But he doesn't have to.
Not sure he has actually signed yet. Maybe better to hold fire until he does.
