If our owners are smart then they will hold firm and wait for Chelsea to blink. They need the money more than we need Mount
I won't hold my breath though.
Of course we need to keep as much budget free for other acquisitions this summer. But there's also a longer-term factor: refusing to go above our valuation is something we need to start doing consistently if we're going to shake our reputation among selling clubs as a team that will eventually fold and overpay.

Exactly what they should do. CFC need the money in and cannot afford another Rudiger freebee scenario.
United have always overpaid...its something they to stop doing.

Yes, we do need to be smarter with how we do business. At the same time, I suspect we will do what needs to be done to get this one over the line. I get the impression that ETH really wants him and the more I think about it, the more he does make sense in terms of what we need and the positions that he can play/cover.
If we bring him in for £60m and move Fred on for £20m or so then it isn't bad business.
At the end of the day Mount wants to come to United, personal terms have already been agreed, he isn’t going to sign a new deal with Chelsea and can walk for free next summer.
There’s absolutely no reason to pay over the odds and we should hold firm.
If we end up with Mount and no striker it’s bad business

We could really do with someone like Ian Rush up front and Bobby Moore at CB. That, along with Mason, would be a really good start IMO.

Totally dependent on the striker. Mount isn’t that good.
Looks like Chelsea are not getting any offers for Mount from anyone else.
United should now go back to their original bid or walk away.

He has been Chelsea's player of the season in 2 out of the 4 seasons he has played in the PL.
Mount in 50m, Fred out 20m plus performance related bonus, -20m.
Not a bad deal by our standards!

Mount clearly isn’t the donkey some are making him out to be but I’m just not sure a player of his like should be top priority this summer.
I was surprised we went to £55m really.
Any further discussion should be along the lines of "take it or leave it"
Be good to see how Mount links up with Mbappe
City just paid £25m for Kovacic, we shouldn't be paying £560m for Mount, never mind the £55m offered.

Except they play different positions. Maybe Ten Hag plans to change formation, move Bruno deeper and play 3 in midfield?
I'm not sure Mount and Casemiro work as a midfield pairing tbh.
Not too fussed with the Mount fee - as long as it doesn’t transpire that it ended up eating into the striker budget as we need that more than anything.
ETH has obviously identified Mount as someone vital to his plan so I’d rather overpay and get someone he wants than back out now and find a shiiiiter alternative.
Surprised City haven't put in a bid for Mount just to drive the price up
