The sky's the limit by becoming the world's most successful club.

Not getting that point mags, you will still play in scotland, don't think you will be skutching man city or hitting the woodwork v madrid just because you are the world's most successful club

Love how suddenly Europe really matters to you lot seeing as it’s the last competition you weren’t scheite in

Europe has always mattered to me while we have been playing in it...and it certainly wasn't the last competition we weren't $hite in, we were absolutely atrocious in the groups last season, was a fcking embarrassment

Just don't really get what some Celtic fans are trying to achieve by sticking to the tried and tested formula and not upsetting the apple cart

I totally get the spend small, sell big, don't upset the wage structure with marquee signings......I get that, totally

But see at some stage, if you are getting money in for players, money in from Champions League, dominating domestically......are you not going to look to spend more on the team and push the boat out a bit? Is the answer to that really a hard no because you have no chance of winning a trophy in Europe, so sod itx we will just keep winning domestically?? Really???

Come aff it

The net spend required to genuinely compete in Europe is MANY multiples more than we currently spend … so aye, that probably is it unfortunately. Not sure what’s so hard to understand here, but I guess we’ve always had a different take on staying solvent.

Knew it was coming.....this is sod all to do with staying solvent

It's about your club being the best it can be with the resources it has

All I'm hearing from what you are saying, is that you don't care if your club isn't the best it can be on the pitch....as long as you beat us domestically

Ambitious as fook that attitude like

At best we could afford to splash a few mill here or there, and I’ve argued MANY times on here we should have done that in the past … when we’ve missed out on CL qualies as a result of Pistol’s penny pinching. It would make next to fook all difference to actually competing for Euro trophies though.

Who said you have to do that?

You don't have to be winning trophies in Europe in order to enhance your standing on that stage, to start making progress and closing the gap with other teams and leagues that are also never going to reach the top, and most importantly to ensure continued participation at the top level, to keep that money coming in

"Seriously, why would we abandon an approach that has served us well over the years, the last two spectacularly?"

It's only served you well domestically
----------------------------------------------------------------------

We don't have the money to "compete" in Europe, and never will have while we get £2m a season from TV, so not sure what your point is Stevie?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Wasn't that long ago that your season was make or break depending on what happened in Europe....and we won't keep the Champions League place if all we are doing is going into the groups and getting skelped continually

You didn't even make it our your Europa League group stage last time you were in those groups either

Pretty sure you can "compete" better than that, and it would be in your own interests to do so

Love how suddenly Europe doesn't matter to you lot, seeing as it's the only competitions you are currently $hite in

Hilarious.

You've won 2 trophies from the last 21. We're doing fine. Dominance in Scotland and sensible spending will result in improvement in Europe.
We'll soon be the World's Most Successful Football Club and then the sky's the limit.

David Murray showed how foolish it is to chase success in Europe. If it happens within our budget great if not - who cares

Celtic are in the market for a goalkeeper this summer.

It’s understood one target being monitored closely is Croatia & Dinamo Zagreb No1 Dominik Livakovic, who has a year left on his contract.

Fiorentina’s interest has cooled recently. Villarreal & Fenerbahce are also interested.

Interesting. We need to be looking for a successor for Hart, obviously. Livakovic is a good keeper but prone to nervousness. Maybe needs the right coaching, possibly from Hart? For the right price, could work out

My point is that McTominay valued at 35m and Tierney at 25m could not be purchases at market value, only loans and loans that make little sense other than for short-term GIRFUYness and they rarely work as well as envisaged - a team works best when balanced. You can argue about those tm valuations btw but even if they were 10m less they would stiill be far and away the biggest outlays ever.

The wage thing is a different story but madness to suggest the guys would take such a massive drop. Maybe in later stages of their careers like Hart but then they won't have re-sale so they would have to be freebies or minimal outlays. The wage is more acceptable IF the player is out and out better standard like Larsson was and his wage differential nobody argued because the rest knew he was special and made them feel there was always a chance to win with him in the team.

The point is not to have that quantum step in player quality / fee / wage but to build the success slower, organically. I linked the Salzburg buys and sells the other day - move to that kind of level, maybe get us to pot 3 but retain the business model of talent ID, showcase & develop and sell on for profit. McT and KT don't fulfil that brief imho?

Fair points Silver mate

Just feel you have to buy better than what and where you have been buying from in order to progress in Europe...which should be a goal for yous, not saying to win trophies, but should definitely be a goal to do better in Europe
