Alright mate, you win, we didn't win the league because city just have a much better squad than us. It was a mental thing.

Someone should tell spurs fans Levys spent 680m on transfers since 2019.

680m in 4 yearsAnd theyve not really sold anyone in those 4 years either so net wont be far off that either.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The best means to compare spending is to look at the amortisation of player registrations.

Liverpool's is about £110m a year, meaning that this amount goes out every season (in accounting terms) on transfer.

Spurs is about £80m a year.

These figures reflect spending over time (typically the length of a contract), usually 5 or more years, so is a good indication or levels and trend of spending.

Liverpool's total wages are about £325m a year compared to Spurs £210m. These take in all staff, and less official sources show it to be £165m vs £110m on players wages, so their player wages about 50% more than Spurs.

Spurs & LFCs profit on player trading is broadly the same at £30m per season on average

So if you take these annual costs, Liverpool are spending on average about £85m more a season on transfers and wages

BTW if you broaden you sample size, in 2018 Spurs spent £0 while Liverpool Spent £160m, but i'm sure you knew that

Of course he knew that - that’s why I challenged him as soon as he posted that shiete, from Jan 2020 until now. It’s also why he isn’t been back since, he is wrong and he knows it.

In what world do Liverpool not spend more than Spurs?

I don’t know why some Liverpool fans find it so distasteful that their side spends money. There will be some out there still claiming they are just spending the Coutinho money

Scoring goals was not our problem last season, we scored loads. Defending became a huge issue after saliba got injured.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Your problems were all mental, as soon as you could see the finish line your players went all Spursy and City just rolled right over you.

I promise you, next season you won’t even be close with ten games to go
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You know, you don't have to project your own team's weaknesses onto us.

Yes, maybe a bit more mental fortitude could have helped, but the issue was largely a squad depth one. We look to be rectifying that this summer, but we shall see how it ends up.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Didn't Arsenal bottle top four the season before as well. I suggest it is Arsenal that have a mental weakness, not Spurs.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Same reason, lack of squad depth. However I do believe we could improve mentally too, but at a minimum we need a better squad depth which we don't have yet
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Mental depth would definitely help
----------------------------------------------------------------------

How many points clear were they before they let 2-0 leads slip vs Liverpool and then West Ham and then drew at home vs bottom team Saints. Didnt even have European or cup distractions at that point !

Their delusion is typified by the laughable claim that "they didnt spend £35m on Carroll, but Chelsea did" on the basis that Chelsea bought Torres and LFC spent the money on Carroll.

Rice is realistically a £40m player, he is nowhere near the level of a prime Mousa Dembele or Rodri
----------------------------------------------------------------------

He’s better than Rodri and who the hell is Mousa Dembele?!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You haven't lived unless you knew Moussa Dembele the only midfielder others used to dread playing against -- could not get the ball off him

Need to grow up son, stop reading comic books!
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Sounds a bit like Patrick Vieira - but I’m betting Vieira won a lot more
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Patrick Vieira has played in as many Champions league finals as Harry Winks did you know?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I didn’t know Vieira ever played in a CL Final tbh - for Inter?

But he played in 2 (two) World Cup Finals & a Euro Final, winning both competitions.

posted on 14/7/23

I just googled Moussa Dembele and he’s some French guy who plays striker for Lyon and used to play for Celtic lol

Before that liverpool game we were 8 points clear with City having a game in hand but with still us to play them away.
So it really wasn't much of a lead, we thought we would drop points against City, Liverpool and Newcastle.

I think if we would've lost the league that way then it wouldn't have been so bad, but the draw against West Ham and Southampton was very poor for me.

The Brighton lost was annoying too, but they are our bogey team I don't think we've beaten them at home for a long while.

Spurs fans have so much PTSD they think all it takes to win things is to be mentally resilient.

Sorry lads, when you win a big trophy, you'll understand. You have to have the right level of talent in the squad too. Rob holding is simply not good enough.

Imagine relying on a slightly better version of dav. Sanchez to win you a league. It just isn't happening.

Exactly, they were stumbling well before that - last minute winner against Bournemouth to drag themselves over the line in that game.

West Ham had them rocking, Liverpool should have beaten them and then City absolutely crushed them.

It was great watching them mentally shrink at the end - no leader taking control, calming them down, they just stopped taking selfies and bombing instagram and instead retreated back into their shells

A mentally resilient Man United won plenty with world superstars like David May, Jesper Blomqvist, Phil Neville

You could get away with that in those days, because the rest of the league were unserious alcoholics. Also, they weren't going up against a financially doped juggernaut like man city.

Like I said, you won't understand.

I don’t quite understand how they got around it with the torn up contracts. Surely the amortisation + remaining wage ends up making it difficult to be FFP compliant?

Unless they happened to do it in that non-FFP covid window?

They did it comfortably within the rules in the exact same way that we could if Levy wanted to - were not hostage to any situation other than Levy

But Aubameyang (roughly) was on £300k a week (5 year contract) and cost £60m - and his contract was tore up with 18 months left.

Through amortisation they’d have left to disclose £9m of the fee and £21.6m from his wages. £31.6m is a hefty chunk of their FFP - which is why i was wondering about it
