yeah, but I tend to never chance it with Pre owned consoles. would always get a new one.
I suppose even refurbished ones will be a good bit cheaper.
But a pc can do a lot more than just play games and movies. For instance can a ps5 run the likes of ableton and VST’s? Can it work with midi controllers or audio interfaces? Can you edit video on a ps5?
Not passing judgement on whether a ps5 is overpriced, 400-500 does seem a lot, but the hardware is decent spec, and it’s a well qa’d system and reliable.

it can , however if you a PC that is gonna perform on games to Playstation 5 level then you will paying over double the price. And in the world we live in your phone makes up for the other differences.
No it cannot do other specific tasks that other PC's can but like I said at more than twice the price.
anyone paying £500 for a PS5 these days deserves to be ripped off.
As things stand the PS5 is on sale for £50 more than the PS4 sold for.
If you can find a PC thats runs games anywhere near as well as a PS5 does for £800 or less then thats considered a bargain.
Those offers won't last forever though. They'll be back up to 480-490ish soon until the next "offer" comes around. Probably black Friday.
Anyway its a 3 year old console, the price of them should be lower.
The simple fact is, the ps5 disk edition is only well priced when its on offer. When it's at the standard price is £480-£490 then its well overpriced, around £150 over the price of what the ps4 and ps4 pro were on release.
Were it not for how impossible it was to get your hands on one of these a few years back, then the price of them would almost certainly be lower right now but because only in the last half year or so have they been readily available, then they are able to sell them at their sale price.
I seem to remember buying my original ps4 for something in the £200 range from game, it was a preorder.
Someone also mentioned inflation, yeah great. Salaries haven't increased with inflation. So to the average person, these things are expensive.

Currys one isnt an offer its the actual price, these sales are cyclical so some stores will run them, then when they run out other stores will run them.
I dont think the PS5's are too expensive , I think they are too expensive for you which is a different argument altogether.
Like I said Currys was selling the PS5 with disk at £400 6 months ago and still at the same price now. Amazon day had them cheaper than that also.
A Brand New PS4 at Argos still sells for £260 and sell the PS5 for £400. I got my PS5 through Argos, with two games and the pulse wireless headset for £540 about 3 months after PS5 was released.
Salaries do increase with inflation what a silly thing to suggest. To say that salaries haven't increased over the last decade is just lies.
ps. when PS4's went on sale they started at £350

That's a paycut, if you take into account how much more expensive everything else is compared to 2013.
Either way I'd drop £500 on the ps5 pro when it comes out. Personally I just don't think the ps5 is worth it, it doesn't look that much better than my ps4 pro. That's all.

the the flips side is that if you dont think there is much difference (I do) between the PS4 pro and PS5 then the difference between the PS5 pro and the PS5 will be even less.
and thats fine if you think spending £500 for a PS5 pro is affordable but £400 for a PS5 isnt then so be it.

I'm not sure what you mean mate in all honesty
I dunno where you live, but where I live(5 miles outside of London) the cost of everything is ridiculously high and these luxuries you speak of are less than they were pre covid.
Salaries haven't increased with inflation at all. They are so far behind inflation that I'm not sure how you can make such a statement "salaries have increased with inflation".
You even said so yourself that the average salary has risen 6k in 10 years
Use ya noggin.

once more for the hard of hearing ... this is the 3rd time now.....
"I literally said you can argue its not relative to the rest of inflation!!"
but salaries have increased. You said they didnt inflate, but are now admitting they did by 6k.
but back to the point in hand .... I can assure you no I promise you the jump up from PS4 to PS5 will be far greater than the jump from PS5 to PS5 pro.
If you dont think £400 (and it should drop more when the PS5 pro comes out) is good value for money over a PS4 but a PS5 pro will be over the PS5 then I cant see the logic in that.
I've got a ps4 pro though. So the jump from that to ps5 is minimal for me. I only play single player games and FIFA online, which runs fine on my 4k TV.
The ps5 pro will be the one that'll be worth the money, unlike the ps5 for me, at this moment in time. (G nev)

But why would I buy a ps5 if I can just wait a year for the pro?
Nobody knows anything but predictions are the pro is gonna be way more powerful than the ps5 and actually worth the money.
Predictions are it's gonna have better cpu, gpu, more storage and memory.
Ps5 gpu is equivalent to a 2070, which is crap. Not dropping almost half a grand on that.

first its over a year and like I said what difference do you expect from the PS5 pro and the PS5?
the early predictions are the the PS5 pro is gonna be more like a PS5 mini than the pro and early suggestions are that we wont see the jump we seen in the PS4 to PS4 pro jump due to the time between releases.
If you uss the same logic for PS5 gpu as you do for the PS5 pro gpu then you wont buy one of those either.
You cannot use the specs of a PS5 and directly compare them with PC,, thats silly. You get far more out of PS5 hardware than you do the equivalent in PC hardware.
What do you mean the time between releases?
Ps5 came out in 2020, its 4 year gap until the pro.
With ps4 it was a 3 year gap to the pro.
Its as if we're having an pc Vs console argument here.
I'm a full fledged console gamer, playstation for years and years. We're on the same side mate
To me, the jump from ps4 pro to ps5 doesn't make any logical sense.
I can play games in 4k.
I never have frame rate issues.
The online game I play, FIFA, runs without issue.
There are no games that I want to play on the ps5 that I cannot play on the ps4 pro.
The only upcoming game I care about is Marvel's wolverine, which by the time that's out I'll have the ps5 pro.
I'd be throwing away money just to say "I've got a ps5", without any meaningful gain in any other area compared to the ps4 pro.
Why do I want the pro? Because it'll have more up to date hardware, it'll cost around what the ps5 costs now, perhaps a little more, and it'll be worth the money to me.
It'll also last a long time and I won't need to upgrade until the inevitable ps6 pro comes out in the future.
Probably overpriced a little, but it seems most things are in the world nowadays. I think the amount of disposable income people have to spend on things like video games is probably smaller than it was 10 years ago, but all in all when you factor the amount of use you get out of them they end up being great value compared to other forms of entertainment.

firstly we can ignore your opinion on prices as you have shown to be widely off the mark with them.
The PS5 Pro will not be selling for £400 upon release IMO it will be more.
upgrade isnt a point there is nothing to suggest that the PS5 wont last the same way the PS4 lasted.
Its not a PC v console war at all (I prefer console) but you brought in the standards ie. by suggesting you wont pay for a asn equivalent 2070 gpu..... when you cant really do that . PS5 gets far far more out the processor than the equivalent PC would get as the games can be far more optimised for it.
Nothing has been confirmed for PS5 pro yet so everything your suggesting is pure guesswork.
but this argument was never about if you think its much better than the PS4 pro its about the price.
£400 is reasonable for what it is IMO.

(G nev)

dude the jump from PS4 Pro to PS5 is still far bigger than the jump from PS5 to PS5 pro.... What difference do you think will be between the PS5 pro and PS5??

Oh and the PS5 is still well over a year away ... late 2024 or more likely early 2025 we will see it supposedly
