Anybody's Expectations Changed ?

No. Happy with top 8 if the football is better than the previous three years.

Low expectations maybe but I feel we’ve fallen behind a number of clubs (Arsenal, Brighton, Newcastle, Liverpool) who maybe we were better than a few years ago.

We’ve beaten a poor United side who IMO flatter to deceive, and drew with a Brentford team who did not have their main man up top.

I’m not complaining, those results were good; but I don’t suddenly think we’ll be nailed on for top 4/5 or even challenging for the league.

I do think however outside of City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle (my predicated top four), 5-8 is wide open.

I always thought the panic over losing Kane was far fetched. Fans talking about us becoming another Everton once we lost him were wide of the mark. With him and Ange I did think we'd have a good season, and without Kane, I never felt we were going to be as bad as people made out but maybe not good enough for top 4.

How well we do in the league is still up in the air but I'm pretty sure it'll be top half somewhere (I don't think that was ever in doubt for me) and I wouldn't even rule top 4 out either given how we've started so far. If we can finally complete some more signings then this is only going to increase our chances, so for the love of God, get on it Baldy.

There was alot of hostility towards the way the club was being run (Kane leaving) on this forum but out in the real word most Spurs boys/girls knew that if Kane wouldn't sign a new contract he had to go to Bayern. As we saw from the atmosphere at the Lane on Saturday nobody is bigger than the club and Ange is incredibly popular with our supporters.

Although Ange won't admit it I wonder if deep down losing Kane suited him. It lowered expectations, meant he didn't have to ask Kane to close down opposition defences for 90mins+ and hopefully he'll get a good chunk of the transfer dosh to reinvest into the team.

We've got some great players that Conte was under using and with Maddison (who was a steal) pulling the strings I'm very enthusiastic about the direction of travel.

The only thing I don't get with this current Spurs team is Richarlison !!

I know a lot of us don't think he's the answer BUT facking hell.... why does he look so bloody miserable all the time ? With Kane gone, he's the starting CF for a super attacking team (Probably above his own level) but his on field attitude and body language is so bad. He sticks out like a saw thumb, everyone looks delighted to be there.. Madders, Bissouma, Sarr, Udogie, even Son, who's not in the best of form but If I was one of his teammates I'd tell him to lighten up.... It might just help his game..... He seems like such an odd character !

Agree with all of this..... I secretly think Ange was cool with Kane going ASAP, he clearly knew he didn't wanna stay from Day 1. I suspect Kane staying for 1 more year would have been the worst thing that could have happened to Spurs long term. I don't think his heart was in it anymore from the final whistle of last season.

The narrative now is about where Spurs are going under Ange rather than where kane is gonna go. I think it worked out well for everyone.

Kane's footprint on the club had became too big/ unhealthy.

Mine remains at a 6/7th place finish and no cups. We’ve played better but Brentford caused us loads of problems and United should have scored at least 2 on Saturday.

I reckon we have pound for pound the best CM in the league though - better than that £300m Chelsea midfield for sure.

My concern with us is squad depth - we don’t have enough.

Our strikers - I’ve got butter knives that are sharper

Alot of people thought without Kane we would nose dive but they based this on the last couple of seasons under a defensive coach.

They never thought, despite all the evidence from his Celtic days, Ange's style could compensate the potential loss. In two games so far we have had 35 shots and 12 on target.

Under Conte we struggled to register any shots at all at times.

But it is still early days.

Without any Europe, it's going to be hard for Ange to keep the squad happy(GLC, Soloman, Perisic, Skipp, Royal or Porro) but it does give him more time to work with the players to understand and implement his plan. Those who miss out, tough luck.

No way after 2 games have my expectations changed? Possibly 6th at the most but don't see us currently getting higher than that.

If our front three had looked like they were going to score two or more a game whilst striking fear into the opposition defences then maybe higher but at present...no.

However, it's been a whole lot better than what we've had to endure for the last few seasons but higher than 6th, I don't think so but am more than happy to be proven wrong

I am excited about the new look Spurs, but I am going to reserve judgment about where we could finish until after say 10 games.

My biggest worry are injuries to any of Bissouma, Maddison, Romero and VDV. If we can keep them fit for most of the season then a top 4 finish is not completely out of the question.

Well I can’t answer that until the transfer window has closed and we’ve played at least six games. But so far so good.

My opinion hasn't changed. I said top four minimum and a trophy before a ball had been kicked.

Fortunately the media have completely overlooked Spurs as usual.

How do you win a trophy before a ball has been kicked? Unless you are RB Leipzig and you see that the opposition has Kane?

Without European football, and playing just once a week squad depth is fine, if a couple more come in before the window shuts.

Except we haven’t been overlooked, we had a dismal season and didn’t qualify for Europe, so of course media coverage would reflect that.

100%... No European football could be a blessing in disguise for Ange to have extra time to implement his style/ philosophy..

I wouldn’t call it a blessing in disguise, more a situation that as we’re in it, should try and make the most of it.

No, I still expect Levy to leave Ange short come the end of the window.

Expectations haven't changed. Still expect a transitional season where it goes wrong from time to time but with a general upward trajectory - and much more enjoyment watching the team throughout.

Hopes have maybe jumped a tiny bit, but I definitely still expect major bumps in the road

Decent start but sure there will be many ups and downs. Im almost not bothered where we finish. Just happy to be able to watch us play entertaining football again.

Great result on Saturday and we are a work in progress but we can't forget that a more clinical side would have been out of sight by half time. We're very easy to slice open at the moment so plenty of work to do

I think a finish in the Europa League places is realistic for where we are during a transitional year. City, Arsenal, and Liverpool will undoubtedly take those top three places for me but to be honest, United, Newcastle, Spurs, Brighton and even Villa could be a toss up for any of the other places. We're the only ones not in Europe which might end up helping us. Who knows?! The good thing is the pressure is off without Kane. We can build a the right tempo without worrying whether we've pleased his lordship enough every year. Whoever said Kane had got too big for the club was bang on. It's unhealthy having such an imbalance.

We really, really need to move in the window though. Richy, as much as some fans won't have it, is most definitely not the answer. He's just not good enough. I've thought that ever since his Watford days. It's not about judging him in his Spurs tenure. Centre half, striker, possibly another attacker and then maybe Jan or next year, we revisit the troublesome full back roles because I think Porro is too attacking and Emerson isn't attacking enough. We need the porridge that's 'just right'.
