Thanks for all your comments on this article people. I would just like to see Klopp given the support he needs, he said it himself ‘it’s not always what I would like’ FSG need to rectify this, we have a world class manager here and when he’s gone we are going to feel the lack. I get the impression sometimes that some of the Liverpool fans would rather defend the owners than the manager.
FSG Have not been able to sustain on field success using their methods and in fact our infrastructure has declined over the last year or two with directors, backroom staff leaving and not being replaced. This current stop gap sporting director reeks of short term thinking. They knew Julian Ward was leaving for months.
I’m not asking for billions from the owners just instead of when Klopp asks for a defender not bringing in Kabak or Davies. Konate is our only major defensive acquisition in years.
A couple more top class signings in defence and midfield would make the whole summer a very different proposition. Instead we now have Klopp telling us Quansah is the next big thing! It’s nice to have upcoming players but we put too much on them when they emerge, look at the expectations on Bajcetic for example.
There is still time for the owners to listen, instead of flying across the Atlantic to whinge about Chelsea just put their hands in their pockets and give Klopp the balance of the £111 million ‘bid’ for Caicedo.
Then we can get on with the season with the players we need.

Well I'm all for criticism when it's justified, it rarely is with owners of a football club and whiny 'supporters'. I'm sure youve seen it with fans of your own club. They have their plan about how they compete. From the outset their plan has been to increase revenues and upgrade the club. They've done that. During the period they've owned the club the club have been successful on and off the pitch. They've made mistakes, especially in the beginning of course.
They've upgraded the stadium, built a new training ground, provided the means to bring in quality players and a manager and saw the club compete for and win multiple trophies including the top two, in the best era the club have seen for over three decades.
They've done that whilst competing with clubs who had a different model where they spend and then recoup much of that spend. The squad is currently going through a rebuild and is nearly at the end of that with several first team and squad players brought in, in the last two or three years.
Evidentally the final piece of that jigsaw is another midfielder and another defender, which the club have been working during the transfer window after two first team players left. The funds are clearly there but we haven't been successful in getting those final two pieces of the jigsaw as yet, that's not on the owners, that's on the people they employ to get that done. Perhaps they aren't good enough? Perhaps having a poor season and missing out on the CL has made it difficult to get the required quality in. Perhaps the draw of London meant we just missed out on a PL transger record player. These are things we can't do anything about and thus the search continues until the window shuts.
To pin the blame on the owners not getting the last two players in of the rebuild is just desperation from those who want to be state and/or oil funded. The money is clearly there to get these players in, we don't need to be state owned and/or oil funded. The issue is getting the right players in, who are of the required quality and who are happy to sit out of the CL. The transfer team including the manager are not going to settle for buying a player who doesn't fit just to get a body in and this model has served the club well as the club can't afford to get signings wrong, unlike some other clubs, Chelsea with their scattergun approach and state and/or oil funded clubs.

Of course we can get quality players in without CL football. City have done it in the past and Chelsea are doing it right now. We just need to offer them a contract that they can't turn down.
Fans need to accept that this is the way football is now. Owners of clubs should have to to provide funds for signings. Whether it's right or wrong, that's what needs to happen if you want your club to have sustained success.
Let's be honest though TOOR, do you honestly think tjat players care about dhiny stadia or training grounds? No, they want the team they join to have the best squad, giving them the greatest chance of winning trophies.
I didn't see we can't get quality players in without CL football. I said it is more difficult.
Yes I think players care about the stadium and training ground, absolutely. The fans also care. I mean people would be on whining even more if the owners hadn't put the foundations in place to increase income and therefore expenditure.
Fans don't need to accept anything. Liverpool have proven that is not the case.
I still don't understand what the issue is with FSG. The clear evidence is there that they've provided the funding to get the players in. So what is it? Do people expect FSG to be indentifying the right players, doing the negotiations and convincing players to join?
Seems to me they'll make up anything to have a go as they want to be oil or state owned.

Are you really that desperate for our owners to do the same as City and Chelsea. I know which I’d rather have thanks.
If you want that type of owner you’ve got a choice of City, Chelsea, Newcastle and possibly even United to support. Their owners will buy everything you’ve been whinging on here about over the years.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Presumably you mean City pre 2016.
The club has been making a profit since then and has had zero financial input from the owners.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If someone give me £2m tomorrow I’d never ask for another penny from them and my life would be incredibly well organised and successful.
Feck me Boris, you don’t actually believe this nonsense you write, do you?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What part of my statement was nonsense exactly?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Every word.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What’s wrong with what he put there? He’s right to say that a significant amount of our transfer activity was covered by equity and none has been since. That’s in part down to the revenue growth but also because we’ve been buying and selling well too.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s a misrepresentation imo. The amount you’ve had put in has allowed you to get to this position. You haven’t achieved it organically, but artificially.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Misrepresentation of what though? Post 2016 it’s entirely right to say we’ve done very well in the transfer market and with our investments. There’s very obvious of examples of clubs with similar revenue that have spent more and significantly under achieved in doing so.
It’s only a misrepresentation if you misrepresent the point being made in the first place.
Artificial vs organic is an entirely separate conversation (I can’t think of many clubs that have done it organically judging by the interpretation on here, at least not without curbing investment completely which isn’t a model that should be advocated at all either surely).

That just proves the point. People would rather spend crazy money on a body not worth half the suggested price and not the quality we need to improve the team. It's just about spending money for these people.
Meanwhile the actual people working for the club have to identify players that actually improve the team, try to find value and then actually get them in. Obviously value is out the window at this stage which is why we're throwing PL records at players but if they can find the right players, they'll try to get them in. It's really that simple.

No it didn't. It consisted of Konate, Diaz, Jota, Nunez, Gakpo, Mac Allister, Endo, Szoboszlai, Thiago etc. In the past three seasons we've replaced much of the first eleven and they're still working on more. The whole midfield have gone. Two of the front three and one centre back. That's six first team players. Diaz, Mac Allister, Gakpo/Jota/Nunez, Szoboszlai, Konate and Thiago have come in to replace them and we've improved the squad outside of the first eleven also. Obviously ideally another midfielder and centre back comes in but it won't be the end of the world if they can't get the right player in. They'll go again in the next window and the one after that will hopefully be with the CL incentive.

---
Go in to the rest of the season with Matip and Gomez as our only back ups then we'll finish top 6. Endo might be a good lad around the training ground but let's be honest here, he was playing for Stuttgart. Doucoure, Kone, Thuram and Boubacar Kamara are all much better players and will solidify that midfield.

We bid £111m for Caicedo over 2 weeks ago. We've since spent £16m. Where's the rest of it. Surely, if the money was there we would have got in another MF and CB?
