Great result and great for the confidence of our forwards getting the goals and Sarabia with creativity. Not sure on how much more you can read into it, beating a league one team who have only won one in five and who made 7 changes. You can only beat what's in front of you, but it will be a very different proposition at the weekend away at Palace.
Looks like we could be signing Santiago Bueno. A Uruguayan International Centre back from Girona.
Santiago Bueno confirmed by Romano.
Hmmm, another Centre Back you say?
Could it be that GON is on the same page as wolfie yet again, and we might be reverting back to the expats preferred formation?
Hopefully more that we can be flexible but with Doc and Ait-Nouri then a back three could be very productive.
While Nunes was here that wasn't really going to be an option I don't think as Lemina, Gomes and Nunes had to start but now it certainly can be.
looks like Nunes is finalised for 47 million all paid immediately and Doyle loan with option to buy for 4.5 million
Doyle is easily worth £15mk
Doyle seemed to do well for the Blades so will be a good option
Bueno came through the ranks at Barca so you'd imagine would have a decent pedigree
I think as lemina and gomes/traore are much more dynamic than neves and moutinho we could go back three but still be attacking was never the formation the problem but the way it was set up
Decent price for a player who doesn't want to be at the club. Not sure what all the fuss is regarding 3 at the back. Played some of our best football using that system and Doherty is best suited in the role of wingback.

The problem with a back three last season and partially the season before was the players available.
Once Coady left it was certainly an iffy choice and then throw in an ineffective Semedo as a wing back in the final third in a position which is critical to our attacking play. Nah.
Now, with Doc back and one less option in midfield that is ready then a back three has legs again.
But the problem is your dream line up has 12 players. You want Sasa and Silva on the field, you want width with Neto or another, you want a solid midfield three. Some of that goes away with a back 3
Wouldn't be saying that if you were sat in the ground begging for a forward pass once you got 30 yards out only for it to go backwards for the fiftieth time
The new dilemma IF a back three is the way we are going is what we do up front now?
Quite like the look of Silva and Sasa right now and would like to see more of it, but of course Cunha will get a spot so the reality is Sasa and Silva won't both be starting if we go with a back three i doubt and if they do then Neto, Sarabia and Hwang will be on the bench.
Nice to have options at least.

Neto Fabio Cunha as mobile trident with sasa as the plan B from the bench
"But the problem is your dream line up has 12 players."
What does that mean cinci? A keeper, 3 defenders, 5 in midfield and 2 up front is 11. Perm any 10 outfielders anyway you want.
By the way, there's no indication that O'Neil will play 3-5-2. All I stated was that we won 5-0 using that system and on the night, it worked.

Seems likely.
A fairly good summation of the risks of a back three now for those thinking it will be the same as before.
''A back 3/5 can work, and did up to a point under Nuno. But we ain't got the players for it now, not to be our default system anyway. We've brought in less talented defensive midfielders, have an older Doc, left backs who aren't as good defensively as Jonny was, centre forwards who won't be as good on the break as Raul and Jota were, and no Traore. I'm not against using it to contain teams sometimes but I don't think it's the right system for our team''.
Not my words incidentally.
I think with the Nunes deal you have to look at more than just the price. Doyle is probably worth £15 million, so to get him for £5 million is good. Santiago Bueno comes from a club owned by the City group and has a release clause of £20 million, yet we're getting him for £8 million.
So basically potentially saving £17 million on transfers takes it closer to the £70 million we were asking for. If we invest the rest of the money well, it could be good business.
