It was a fantasy
They all lived in 5,000 sq ft apartments in Manattan on part-time coffee shop server salaries
Not one American comedy would make top 5 for me, possibly south park at a push, not a cultural thing they just don’t do it as well. Subtlety isn’t really there. Stuff like big bang theory is just garbage
Vang Vieng in Laos is a living hell.
Every bar and cafe has Friends or Family Guy on continuously without sound.
Every bar without exception

They cancelled it at its peak, which is a rarity in comedy shows
Is it just the British who always go on about how Americans aren’t funny? They are, they’ve produced so many good comedians, it’s not even debatable.

tbf the funniest frenchmen ever have been englishmen in disguise - inspector clouseau, officer crabtree - so they can shut up.
It’s been said loads on this thread that American comedy just isn’t the same as British. People always seem to want to compare the 2 for some reason and the vast majority of the time it’s that British comedy is better and American stuff doesn’t work for them.
You didn’t even need to give examples, ‘Frenchmen can shut up’ was more than sufficient.
I wonder what an Italian version of Mrs Brown’s Boys would be like?

with "american stuff" always seen as that 70s show rather than atlanta; friends, rather than larry sanders; the king of queens rather than bilko; or how i met your mother rather than chapelle's show.
usually followed by praising the subtlety/irony/cleverness of uk comedy, as typified by only fools and horses or men behaving badly, which are as subtle as a kick in the b@lls.

They certainly have, but their sit coms just aren’t as good. They tend to be too obvious and overblown, especially the big exports. I’m not knocking American humour, they do some excellent stuff, but I can’t think of a 30 min sit com I’d put up there with our best. South Park is absolutely superb (not a sit com mind) , and their targeted annihilation of the current topics are fantastic, and far smarter than they are sometimes given credit for. I haven’t seen it’s always sunny, but heard great things. That said, some of our top comedies really are utterly brilliant.

Yep, it’s strange when some people seem to want to dismiss all a nations comedy because they probably didn’t like something they watched years ago.

I’d agree in the premise they aren’t the same, they can’t be. Love them both though.
I find it a bit pointless separating them out by nationality anyway, especially given how much they culturally influence each other.
In fact I’d say there’s more American comedies I like than British, thinking about it. Did grow up on Cheers and then Frasier though and the first ten series of the Simpsons is still the pinnacle.
