Bet even now Mata would still be better than Sancho and Antony.

Awb is probably the best 1 on 1 defender on the planet. He's crap at everything else though.

AWB has been excellent for recently. He is a loss. As is Shaw and Varane.

Agreed.

I have never been a massive admirer of AWB because of his limitations on the ball but credit where it's due....he's been a lot better for us since January.

We are probably going to Bayern without 3 of our best back 4. It could get a bit messy. 😂

He will, if true, because it doesn’t just mean we’ll have to play Dalot at right back, it also means we’ll have to play Regulion at left back.

AWB is the best tackler I have ever seen. Yes, ever. That alone makes him a very useful defender to have at your disposal.

Dalot, I dont think he is anywhere near the best at anything.

For that reason I think losing AWB would be a massive blow for United. A lot more than Dalot. Considering how useless Uniteds defence has been so far this season. Truly appalling. Injuries or not.

I find this story hard to believe btw. OP please confirm your sourse.

It's only Bayern.

I feel like with Shaw out EtH prefers Dalot at RB because he’s the only fullback who can cut into midfield to help. So while I prefer AWB I don’t think it effects EtHs preferred choice at RB at the moment. If we get an injury to Dalot however that means Lindelof at RB with slabhead a better chance of starting at CB.

Both of whom were an absolute disaster for all 3 goals yesterday.

Regulion looks decent on the ball though.

We’re better off with Dalot at left back. Should have brought a right back in when Shaw got injured not facking Reguilon.

Just watched it back for the first time because of that comment. Really don't see how either were at fault for any goal. Maybe Dalot for the 2nd a little but meh, not really.

Yeah I've no idea how he's come to that conclusion. To place any blame on Reguilon for the third goal especially is absolutely laughable.

I think for the second there was confusion over who was supposed to mark who between Dalot and McTominay but I think that was true throughout the game as the players aren't used to defending in a diamond and it requires us to defend differently out wide.

I think one of the biggest problems defensively yet again yesterday was not tracking runners properly. This is becoming a big problem with Casemiro, not tracking runners and not being in good defensive positions although I had some sympathy with him because he was left isolated as Eriksen and McTominay were tasked with defending too big an area for me. I'm not Rice's biggest fan but this is an area where he excels and if he we had him I think he'd have prevented at least two of those goals.

Good. He's not good enough, give someone else a chance
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You'll figure out soon enough that without him we literally have no actual defender who actually tackles players. We conceded 3 goals all from our right flank.

Yeah, the first 20 or so were promising going forward yesterday but there were warning signs down the left hand side of our diamond even before the first goal - with Eriksen not really having the legs to do the role he was asked to do off the ball, and Rashford either not knowing how to or not wanting to (which in turn didn't help Eriksen)

His preferred choice was because of his formation. The narrowness of the midfield meant the width needed to be supported by the wingbacks aggressively.

Now we ignored the strength of the width of brighton, lack of cover for the flanks by centrebacks and midfielders. The formation was too new and incompatible to the team.

posted on 17/9/23

Yeah once Brighton got over the initial surprise of how we set up, once they found their rhythm and started finding their full-backs in higher positions, it was pretty easy for them.

We should've adjusted at some point before the second half as carrying on with Eriksen in that role was suicide.
